Title: Real, or clone?

I was cruising around today with the camera. The weather was very nice, so I took some roads I've never taken before... then I found this.

Is this thing real? It has the extra lights within the grille, nomenclature on the side (Mach 1), and the hood has "429" written on it (in paint), which is the Cobra Jet motor, right?
I looked inside and saw that it had a floor-shift auto.
If it is the real thing and not a clone, what a shame! It looks like the rust has gone through the floor and trunk, and I'm sure the frame is in bad shape.

Oh yeah, I went to one of my favorite places in town and took a shot.

looks fairly real to me. most wannabe's that I have seen are fiberglass.

Looks like it could be a '69 Mach1, not sure on the 429, could be a 428CJ. All '69s had the four headlights, '70 only had two. :)

Yea looks like a real '69 Mach-1 to me. But even so they ain't all that rare. The std Mach engine was a 351 2bbl with a 4bbl 351, a 390(dropped for '70) and 428CJ optional... No '69 or '70 Mach-1 ever had a 429('71 yes). In '69 &'70, the 429s were in the BOSS 429 Stangs only.

If you can get the VIN no. I can tell you what engine it orignally came with.

Thanks fellas... I may have mis-read the numbers on the hood.

It's a shame that the car is in such a state of disrepair... There's moss growing under it!

I doubt it's for sale, as it's obviously been sitting there for years... Also, it's in plain view of traffic, so I'm sure it's asked about all the time.

I don't think it will be possible to restore it. The side windows have been gone long enough to rust everything inside the car, so I'm sure the floors are totally gone.

If the right guy finds it, with a big enough checkbook, it's restorable, just takes lots of $$$ and time...

Well i'm restoring a 69 cutless for some one right now.
New floors fix the frame rails it needs a new trunk and all the parts are easy to get.
New fenders doors and lower 1/4s then the 350 that was in it was dead so building new 455 and a tranny as well as new brakes and lines.

This stang would be much the same.  I know the cost to make it into a resto mod would be around 20gs.  Still cheaper then most new cars.

did some research and from all that i saw its real

i have a 66 chevelle im in the process of restoring it,too, needs floor, trunk, qp's  and a good coat of paint and some TLC im planning on ripping all the stupid stuff out.... and making it a pro/street car

Yea they are 1968 only models.... used Shelby tail lights and had some other special trim...

A friend of mine has a '67 Chevelle with a worked-over 396 and the 4-speed. It's got some muscle, but it scares the hell out of me to ride in it.

you gotta love how those tail lights are from a 65ish tbird.  I saw a special on the shelby mustangs once and that's what he used.  Good info for anyone restoring one of those.  They look kinda awkward on that california special

Oh, heck just buy one of these "brand new" '67 Mustangs!! They're only $169,000+. 525 hp aluminum 427 superchrged big block. These are the new "super snakes" from Unique Performance. :ies:

yeah im planning on running a 383 stroker in mine.... with some special stuff to make it have around................maybe 505- 520 rwhp with a 12-bold axel btw mines a malibu SS it came with like a 283 6 cyl but eh im a speed freak you know what im talking about ;)

(top shot hidden nitrous for a 750cfm race demon carb, atop a trickflow engine kit, on 454 pistons with a block with 4 bolt mains .30 over )
