Hey guys, I hit the 'buy it now' on this evilbay item (http://"http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330147183189&rd=1,1"), paid for it by paypal, and now this morning I get an email from another ebay member telling me that the item isn't listed right. this is the message:
So, what say you? Is scorpion right? When I get the right info, I'll be emailing the seller if it's not. Thanks for any help, O' Sages of all things Bird and Cat.
yeh, i belive this came up in another thread and someone had identified it as a fiero spoiler which was listed as an fmh? spoiler... he has the real deal and can show you a picture of the real fmh? spoiler
Scorpionairbrushing is ME. :hick:
You got HOSED brother. That is 100% without a doubt a Fiero spoiler. It is not even CLOSE to an FMS spoiler, or close to fitting on the trunk of a TBird.
DO NOT PAY FOR IT!!!
Hey Scorp! Thanks for watching a Bird brothers back! I owe you! Unfortunately I already had paid with PayPal, but I did email the seller about this situation, and I'll be waiting for his reply. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again, Mike!
Not true they fit quite nice on the 87-88. I had one on mine. I don't have pics of it on the bird but it migrated to the Cougar.

Cougar trunks are a LOT flatter then TBird trunks. For that spoiler to fit right, it would be 2-3" from the rear of the decklid on a TBird. I've seen 3 or 4 like that and it looks like JC Whitney hacked PepBoys ricer . The spoiler does not fit and it's too narrow as well.
I've seen that spoiler mounted on an MN12 Cougar, it looks great on there too.
However, that is a Fiero spoiler.
Not to come off as an ass but what part of my post did you not read about it fitting. I had it on both my 88 bird and 88 cougar it sits flat on both trunk lids and it is the right width. 53" is not too narrow for our cars.
The last 2" of a TBird decklid is curved upward, not flat. Not to be an @$$, but unless the Fiero spoiler is modified on the pedestals, it's going to look like . Either that or mounting it 2" forward on the flat part.
And 53" is way too narrow. The custom TBird spoiler I just sent out is 58" and the Original FMS unit is 65".
I don't care what measurements you post... the pictures speak for themselves... looks like a good fit to me.
An SN95 Mustang spoiler on an 83-86 TBird mounted too far forward:

Notice how high it sits and how narrow it is.
See how it "leans back" because of flat pedestals on a slanted decklid?

What a REAL TBird (AM prototype that just got sent to the fiberglasser) spoiler looks like:
Notice how it sits low and actually follows the lines of the car. The fins are tight to the body, but don't touch.
See how it's at the end of the decklid, not 2" forward. The pedestals are curved to match the decklid.
Here's the way-too-square and wide Firebird spoiler on an 87-88:

And the same Firebird spoiler on an early Cougar:

The REAL FMS spoiler on an 87-88:

Another view:

And from the front:

See how it fits tight against the body, and follows the lines?

Compare that to an SN95 Mustang spoiler on an 87-88:

See how it's mounted 2" forward on the flat part?
Here's that awful Fiero spoiler:

this si the spoiler on my blue TC i got off of a 85 tbird, what this type and from, Mike your spoiler crazy?!
i really miss driving this car, it looks so preeettty!!!

I'm sorry but I think all those cars look good with their equipped spoilers.
Ok have you seen one up close and personal to actually see it and how it fit or are you just speaking from the pics you posted that it looks like .
Yes if you mount that thing that far forward it will look like . But if you look at the pics I posted you will notice I have it set back on the trunk lid and it bolted down just fine with the flat surface. The trunk on the 87-88 birds don't curve that much that it would be a problem to mount it at the back of the trunk lid. I am speaking from experience I have put that spoiler on 2 cars my 88 bird and 88 cougar.
I have seen 2 with my own eyes, both mounted forward on the flat part.
Even mounted back they are still too narrow.
All of it is moot though, the buyer got hosed because that Fiero spoiler is only $55 through JC Whitney and is NOT for a TBird.
If you get to work, and you like it, that's fine. But don't try conning people out of hundreds of dollars by calling it something it's not.
BJL,
Yours looks a lot like the Fiero GT spoiler. I see you have it mounted forward as well. That's the cleanest install of that spoiler I've seen yet.
Mounted forward? Are you looking for reasons to piss people off? The back edge of the spoiler lines up with the trunk edge, it looks fine. Get off your ****ing high horse man, you're starting to piss people off again.
IMO, the worst one is the FMS spoiler.
The best is the "REAL TBird"s spoiler
Look, He's just trying to say that if you mount that fiero spoiler like it SHOULD be (To the rear edge of the decklid) The flared up portion of the decklid tips the spoiler and makes it look crazy. Mount it so its flat, and it sits too far forward on the decklid. Not to mention it really DOESNT follow the car's countour very well. Its his opinion. Thats all. No need to get bent out of shape over an OPINION.
And yes, if it was advertised as a thunderbird spoiler he DID get hosed, considering that isnt what the pictures show.
And as a side note, I BADLY WANT an FMS for my 88. IMHO, it just looks BAD ASS.
C'mon people its fiberglass, just contour the pedestals of the spoiler so they match the curved lip of the decklid.
Well excuse me for not wanting a fellow club member to get hosed $200 for a $50 spoiler! I *think* the Fiero spoiler looks like @$$. If you think otherwise, fine. I could care less about g YOU off of all people. :shakeass:
Mike, FWIW I WANT one of the spoilers your making
Spoilers suck.
Their name fits...they "spoil" the lines of the car.
To each his own. I personaly belive it depends on which spoiler is on which car. Also the Theme of the car plays into it
True decklid spoilers increase downforce and decrease drag at the same time. I doubt any of these do much of either.
I guess what you don't know wont hurt you.

Try more along the lines of $150 but he still got over chargered for it with shipping and all.
Yea, that sits really high.:birdsmily:
Oh c'mon now, tell us what you really think about em':cougarsmily:
Usually -any- spoiler creates drag, but the benefits of downforce can outweigh the penalty of drag.
My gawd JC Whitney prices have climbed! I have an 05 paper catalog showing that POS spoiler as $55!!
He still WAY overpaid.
I paid $120 in 2000 for mine I didn't pay shipping either sinc ethey are like 30-45min from me. Also gotta love the back room discounts. Racing seats for $35 a piece.
Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated this yet. All's well that ends well. The seller gave me a full refund after talking to him over a couple of emails, so this issue has been resolved, much to my delight! Thanks again, Mike! :D
Glad you got your money back!
Im not trying to steal this post or anything but what you guys think about this one?
That abomination is almost a foot forward of the rear edge! BARF!
Buy a TBIRD spoiler for a TBIRD! Firebird spoilers are for Firebirds!!
wow, wasn't expecting that for sure. I always thought it looked good. Thanks for being honest I guess.
Sorry man, but you asked. :hick:
I can't STAND spoilers that are mounted incorrectly or spoilers that don't "go" with the car. When both are combined I get queasy. I would take it off, but the paint on the car and spoiler is nice so refinishing the trunk would be $$$.
Jeremy, you are right. I did say "usually" and not "always". But based on my conversations with Elliotts, and seeing both 86 and 87 body styles in their personal museum, the Talledega cars had the rear spolier leaned way back to decrease drag, versus a short-track car that had the spoiler almost straight up.
And I agree with Aerobird, but I just wouldn't say anything bad about another guy's car. :-)))
I don't really care what something looks like if it works.
Yeah, the fin isn't going anywhere, but all this talk about them got me thinkin about the one I got and what people thought. I pretty much would have to sand and repaint the whole trunk lid to eliminate it or change it to a ford fin so...yeah.
