well if y'all don't already know the T/C was totaled this morning. i'm getting the car back from the insurance co. tomorrow. she's getting a new car and i have a few options. 1. fix the turbo but it doesn't look good there is structure damage. i might could clip it but i don't know. 2. find another fox body maybe a fairmont wagon. my buddy john who i work for wants us to build a 2.3 turbo powered miata. or my idea project turbo sport. take a perfectly good 88 sport and transfer every thing from the turbo i can salvage. what y'all think?
I think you'd be going the wrong way, but I'm partial to V-8s.....
Try to save it. They are easy to clip or pull.
I’m in long island don’t know if this will work cause of the frame damage but just given you an idea. Kind of holding on to it, trying to decide to sell it or hold it as a back up since you can’t find these parts any where.
^^^That's by far the easiest way to pull the nose off of these cars.^^^
the only thing is the inner fender is pushed in about 3". and there is a gap of about 7/8" between the frt fender and the passenger door. the body is tweeked bad. i'm on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. i have to put a tranny in the GM on thurs. then i'm tearing into the turbo to asses the damage. i'll keep y'all posted.
Me too but it's you car...
Swapping the drive train into a Sport would be fairly easy... It's the wiring that would be a nightmare... I'd find a '85-'86 TC harness and not try to use the '87-'88 snake pit(assuming you'd ditch the Ride Control and ABS System)... Either way would require some rewiring, need to discuss it with Chuck...
Not a fan of Wagons either, but a Fairmont Box or Futura(Can you say mini '77-'79 Tbird?) would be sweet with a turbo 2.3... Also don't forget the Zephyr/Z7 Merc twins... They weigh probably 500/600 lbs less than '87-'88 TC, which is just like adding HP...
I'm with those V8 guys. But I would look at it as the opertunity to get crazy with that turbo. I'd be looking for an old Pinto body in good shape. That would Fly! and talk about sleeper.
Or you ever think of playin in the sand? (a turbo sandrail)
i'd love to do a pinto wagon. but in these parts they are non existant. all the roundy round guys used them up years ago. in fact its nearly impossible to even find a fox mustang in the yards.
i might take you up on that if your willing to come off with the clip. i'm still waiting for them to release the car. i should know more by monday if its fixable or not. does anyone know if a mustang core support is interchangeable with the t-bird?
I like the fairmont boxtop idea
