When I upgraded to 11" brakes I had KYB GR-2 struts for the Lincoln Mk. VII put on since they're the correct strut for that spindle, and they're way softer than the KYB struts I had on before. On the one hand it's nice not feeling every imperfection in the road, but I'm not particularly happy with the newfound bounciness in them (with the old struts, if you pushed down on the hood, you could barely make it move). Have KYB struts changed over the years? I got my old ones around 1996 or so, and the rear end exhibits FAR more stiffness than the front. I'm not sure how much cornering ability the car has lost, though it doesn't seem like much, but I'm concerned. It could be that I've simply gotten used to a SUPER harsh ride, but by comparison it feels like I need Dramamine now.
did you check the valving vs. your previous application? the mkVII struts may have different valving specs
what was the application of the old struts?
Hmmm. I don't understand. I don't know all that much about struts. :dunno:
The struts I picked were recommended on the TC forums as they can't get PRC struts anymore and I'm using the same spindles.
Mk VII struts are likely valved for a much cushier ride than a Turbocoupe, XR-7 or Stang.
I may be forced to go with KYB on a temp basis just so I can have the cat ready for CatJam but I'll be switching to Koni adjustables as soon as the wallet allows.
From KYB's site:
I wonder if I had gas-a-just's on before. It looks like they only make them for newer Mustangs now. I noticed that shockwarehouse.com recommends the ones I bought for TC's too (basically it's the only KYB that fits properly). It looks like gas-a-just's are still available for the rear, though.
