Got a question, what axles and brake parts will I need to swap 5 lug on a Stang rear?I MAY go 5 lug in the rear so I can install 10.5 Cobra R wheels on the back, then,as time and money allow,I'll do a 5 lug swap on the front.I can wait for the front,my 9 inch Cobra wheels are new,and even though the 10.5's would be 5 lug, they would match well enough until I get to the front.
Second question, will a 10.5 inch 5 lug Cobra R wheel fit under the rear of the '88 Sport with a Stang rear and using Stang axles?
Oh Chuuuuuuuuck...............................
two short side ranger axles and two ranger drums
Which side is the short side?
right
Right what?Just kidding.LOL.
incorrect, he would need the longer ones on the driver side, or pass side on an aerostar.
and vinnie..........use the search function. :beatyoass:

Thanks. So,will the 4 cyl. Ranger front rotors convert our cars to five lug up front?I'm unsure how our rotors compare to 4 cyl. Stangs.
d'oh, i mistyped, then followed it with the correct answer to the wrong question....
my apologies:disappoin
When I converted my front disc's to five lug, I ground the old studs down and drilled (5) new holes and installed the new studs. Easy if you have a bridgeport I guess, but I didn't have to convert brakes or anything.

Also, I've heard on a bunch of fox mustang forums, the SN95 axles and brakes will work in the rear. That with the fox mustang rear w/ the SN95 axles will make the rear 3/4" wider on each side. The same as what the Cougar/T-bird is stock:)
Exactly.. if you use a Fox mustang rear or a Turbo coupe rear or an early 7.5..
So would the rear from an 85' Turbo Coupe work?
Well it would be a 7.5, That actually the exact rear I have in my 88 cougar.. They came with 3.45 gears and a traction lock so not a bad rear.. especially for a 3.8 car. Only problem is some 85 rears are the wider rear and some are the narrow rear.. you need the earlier narrower rear. Usually you can tell by the drums it has.
You will have to measure that '85 7.5 rear housing to be certain. It MAY be the wider one. Vinnie ran into that recently.
I want to say that the changeover came in 85.5 when they upgraded the engine (injectors/ECU), but Vinnie didn't have the info on the car.
Wonder if thats when they went to the Hydraulic motor mounts? Or did the earlier cars come with the same fluid filled mounts?
I found this, how to use ranger axles, and Mark VII calipers.

Click on 4 to 5 lug swap,
this site is awsome for all sorts of " fox " ideas, pretty sweet setup if yah ask me !!
not sure if the A-arms things from SN95's with work on the tbirds,
but i know you can make the fox 1" wider front and rear using SN-95 parts,
pretty sweet, and every one has a killer brake kit for em,
dude I dont know if this can help you but will this one fit our cougar or tbirds too thanks

Those things are a joke. You can do the SN95 swap for a little bit more, and get better and new style brakes. And for the rear, ranger axles are cheaper.
Also, the stock 05'+ rims are more expensive, and don't look as good as SN95 in my opinion.
Hmmm, those are very similar to some I ran on the rear of my VW so I could put some Cragar mags on it. My only beef with those is how much offset they add. One of the studs was actually a lug bolt (VW's used bolts, not nuts) that had an eccentric to center the adapter. That went into the drum first, then three bolts that were counter sunk through the adapter. I still have those adapters, but I'm sure they wouldn't work on the 'Bird. (or would they ......) I since just bought wider wheels that fit, and got rid of the adapters.
Thanks for the link, though.
The easy way is to look at the rotors. Axle shaft width stayed the same, but the actual backing plate-to-backing plate width increased. The two models have different rotors to account for the offset between the axle shaft face and the backing plate.
