Post by: JrP on July 09, 2007, 03:34:02 PM
I would like to put headers on my 84 ,302, t bird.
What ones will fit easily with no alterations to be made to the car.
 I d  like part numbers ?

Stock Mustang headers fit fine. You won't be able to re-use your original exhaust though. You'll need a Mustang H-pipe or custom exhaust.

So any aftermarket mustang header will work?

For a 5.0 stang, yeah. Longtubes I'm unsure of but I know people have used them

About any of the shorties fit the engine compartment of a '84, but some may interfere with the column shift linkage...

NONE fit the stock exhaust system...

Agreed, I tried this with my Mac shorties... didn't work. you MUST use an aftermarket H pipe. I did Summit 2.5" Catless H pipe for $104. And then I got my headers for $50 Shipped as a steal

you guys know what i did?
the stang shorties i have did nto mate to my stock exhaust s correctly due to size and alignment but were barealy there.

to get the shorty to mate to my y pipe, i slid the  down on the end of each side of my y-pipe,, stuck it up on an exhaust expander which a shop down the road has.  I got each side swelled out to the right size matching the shortie.

next i had to tweek my y-pipe about a grand total of 1'' inwards towards each other using a come along and it fit.

basically, if in a situation where you arent going to switch up the whole exhaust, your existing y-pipe s need swelled.
just fyi

mine seals up ok but barely.  No leaking that i saw or heard.
