Went in to return those rims today, Asked about any new fox cars, And they guy said they just got in an '87 Cougar.
Went out to the yard and found in the very very back an '87 XR7, Dark/Academy Blue w/ Leather Interior!.
Came home with these:

No rips, A couple scratches on the Drivers seat, thats about it for damage!.
But had a problem with the Drivers seat...
It's power and i could not get the big bolt out that's on the back side facing passenger, My tools wont fit and i cant get the seat to slide. :punchballs:
Then they started kicking people out 'cuz it was closing time, So i need to go back today and try and get out the bottom part.
Any suggestion on how to get the drivers power seat out without power?
And, Are these "Raven" Color? And please tell me these will fit my '84...
Remove the 4 bolts that hold the seat bottom to the frame, you will have to feel for them as they will be upside down. Just did the same thing last week. Then you can get the frame
Cool thanks, And if that fails, Im bringing my drill... And going through the bolt from the bottom of the car, lol.
Nope... Raven only looks blue when it's faded. It's supposed to be black. Those are actually blue.. not sure if Ford has a name for 'em. Yes, they'll fit your '84. What'd you pay for 'em?
The bolts that hold the seat base to the tracks have a 10mm head.
Oooooohhhhh, blue leather in good condition.
I'd love to find a new set of front seats for my car. My back seat is mint but the fronts are showing their age. That color leather is pretty difficult to find.
Take one of those jump start booster packs with you, hook it up under the hood and then move the seat as needed.
Junkyards will often have an old pick-up which they use to transport parts from the yard to the office. See if one of the wrench-turners will let you power the XR7 with a set of jumper cables from the junkyard vehicle. I had to do that to pop the trunk of a Thunderbird. I never would have gotten my FMS spoiler, otherwise. :)
That reminds me.
I also had a great score at the junkyard on Saturday morning.
Notice anything missing?
Sha-zaaaa!
:D
Nice find on the seats.......and the steering wheel.
Cost under $50 for all of them!. :hick:
I dunno about getting jumper assistance, The employees arent all that helpful at this yard. :punchballs:
Nice Wheel!, I scored one of those last year, But, It has all the speed controls.
Im going back to the yard within the hour to pick up the rest of the seat, And see what else of the car i want/can get.
I'm extremely low on funds right now... This always happens when an awesome car comes in. :punchballs:
AWESOME!!
I had paid $100 for my seats and then had to shell out $525 more to re-upholster the fronts (in 2 kinds of vinyl)
owch :-X
And ugh...
I got to the yard late today.
I got the leather top part of the seat out and brought it home with me :hick:, But, No matter how hard me or my dad tried... The frame/bracket would not come out!!!
It's just the ONE large bolt causing this problem, It's covered by dual steel plates and there no way to fit a tool in there.
And the guys at this yard aren't helpful enough to bring a vehicle over to jump it.
isn't there some kind of manual release? Or some way to take it apart so it will slide? Theres got to be something...
Anyway... I spent all my time messing with that and ran out of time again.
Grabbed as much of the dark blue belts as i could, Missed a couple back seat ones.
I'll try and get it out again tommorrow... But i don't know if im gonna be able to get that bracket thing out...
So you at least got the bottom of the seat? Four 10mm bolts connect it to the seat rack.
wow, big surprise! Has anyone ever been to a JY with helpful workers? Its like they dont care if they sell anything! Are these guys all bored millionaires??!?
As for your problem, youll just have to take the plasma with you and take floor home too! :D
Yea got all the main seat parts minus the drivers electric seat bracket.
Well, For some reason on this 87 XR-7 5.0, It's got 3 bolts of the same size which i have off already with no problem.
But, then has a Larger 4th one on the passenger side rear...
It also seems to hold or help hold down the belt assembly.
And then theres very thick steel plates that keep the belt assembly in place that are attached to the sliding rail, Which is covering the bolt. :punchballs:
It's normal for #4 to be larger. You can't get an open-end wrench in there? Hmm. I wonder how much current you would need to get the seat motor to turn. It doesn't really require 12v. I wonder if a pair of (or three, or four) 9V batteries in parallel (NOT SERIES!!!) would get it to move. You could get everything you need at your local Radio Shack.
Edit: The EVTM is *such* a great resource. Okay, the front/rear motor is driven by two wires: yellow/white and red/white (that is to say, yellow wire with white stripe and red wire with white stripe). Connecting power to Y/W and ground to R/W moves the seat forward and connecting them the opposite way moves the seat backward. I would expect that you could connect a small power source (e.g. aforementioned 9V batteries) across them to move the seat. If you do that, make SURE to unplug the seat rack first so the rest of the car doesn't leech all the power away (and ESPECIALLY if the car has a battery or other power source of any kind connected)
Well i tried 1 9v that i had in my toolbox, And that sure didnt work, heh. :hick:
A typical alkaline 9V battery might have a capacity of 540mAh, which means it can supply 540mA of current for one hour. However, this does NOT mean that it can supply that current and not melt! For instance, it might only be able to safely supply 270mA for two hours (I'm just guessing here on safe current delivery, I'm only trying to point out that all power sources have limits on current flow).
The seat power is on a 20A fuse, but that circuit powers several things. I figure that 1A (that is, 1000mA) of current at nominal 12V *should* be enough to turn the motor, so I figure you need several batteries (once again, I'm guessing, but the point is that there is NO WAY that a single 9V battery supplies enough current), and remember, you're already at a 25% voltage deficit (9V instead of 12V). Power (watts) = voltage * current, and power counts here as well.
From the little research I've done in the last few minutes, it looks like a 540mAh alkaline 9V battery should be able to supply a similar peak current (540mA). So try three of them in PARALLEL. That might be enough.
It's worth pointing out that I'm assuming alkaline batteries. NiMh rechargeables don't have as much capacity or the ability to supply as much current. The best NiMh 9V battery there is has 305mAh capacity and similar peak current.
EDIT!!! I meant PARALLEL, not series!
Use the 9 volt battery trick, sit in the seat and puch or pull. You don't need the motor to move, only to " give slack " to move.
Thanks for the info!
Well i rigged up 3 alkaline 9 volts and soldered them in parallel, Then went out to my car and gator clipped them to the power seat slide control, It would initiate the motor and make a click but then nothing else would happen. :(
I have a couple 9.6v Rechargeable Battery's from my drill, Should i try and parallel those? :hick:
**Edit
Aha!, I'll go try that now on my car, Thanks Fila.
whoa,
That was crazy...
I went back out and tryed the triple 9v again, Think i juiced it too much on the last try, Motor didnt even click and the batts started getting too hot.
So i've got this old 9.6v Makita Drill Battery, I hooked it up and as soon as i hit the switch the passenger side floor light came on along with the overhead, And the seat moved all the way forward like it was running off of the car batt. :hick:
Crazy. Did you get the frame?
Yeah,
Something awesome happened again today at the yard'...
As soon as i got there there i spotted a car that must have been put out last night, Right at the front of one of the rows...
And first thing i noticed on it were the light up emblems! :hick:
'83 Heritage 5.0 AOD, Just put out, First one to get to it.
Of course this happens when i'm basicly broke until friday... :punchballs:
But i got all the good stuffs i could afford!
The heritage had dual power seats, So i just went ahead and got the passenger power seat track instead of the drivers power track out of the cougar since it was free with the cost of the seat.
I'll use the power drivers track i already have. :)
Tripminder!

What's with the light blue one? It was randomly thrown in the interior, Mom thinks it's vintage.
Various Lights:

I'm going back Fri/Sat for more stuffs, has a perfect headliner, Woodgrainy dash stuff and un-cracked dash cover.
Also has vent windows... Im seriously thinking about them... Should i swap my doors out for them at 30$ each? Passenger does have rusting issues on inner top.
Do yourself a huge favor. Before you put the seat tracks in, sand the rust off, primer them, then paint them (I did mine in black). You'll be glad you did, trust me.
Are those clear marker lights? !!
That did it,you've inspired me to get to the boneyard.
Will do. :hick:
Sure Are! Heres the crazy part on those... 2.50 each!!!
Do it!
It was kinda hard on me today though, in about 95 degree weather w/ full sunlight on me, But the pain was worth it. :hick:
Man that's a good haul! That Heritage is sporting some RARE options. See the sensor in the console plate?
You mean the 'Alarm' light?
It has an interesting instrument cluster too, I haven't seen one like it before.
It's an electronic one, but everything is blacked out and looks flush, Except for the mileage read-out which is the dial type off to the right (had about 97-197k miles) and the gear readout is at the bottom going horizontal.
Only has like 2 buttons on it.
But yea, has other options like power fuel door, Premium Sound, Full light package, Chrome mirrors, Maintenance light bezel, Power antenna, Dual lighted visors, Carpeted floor mats, Tilt wheel, Illuminated locks...
**Edit
Cluster is just an average '83 Electronic, Just haven't seen one before and did not know they changed it in '84.
Anyone have a picture of an '83 Electronic Cluster lit up?
Hit up the junkyard again today, Had those wing window doors on my mind all week...
And came home with them!
Pics later, I'm worn out, I had no idea how heavy these doors are.
And i really hope theres a harness/wire disconnect plug thinger behind the door panel or else i'm gonna have alot of wiring to do (I pulled the wire harness from the door all the way back from under the carpet and didn't find one, So i just clipped it...).
Also picked up an un-cracked dash, Woodgrain dash panels, Leather wrapped woodgrain steering wheel and some outside trim pieces. :D
And i found tickets on the Heritage for its reason being there...
It was a public nuisance, Owner was told to remove the vehicle and did not comply, So the vehicle was impounded. :punchballs:
Then it showed up at the Junkyard... ?
It's sad to see these cars in here, But they will help make my car something amazing and live on through mine. :)
here's one of mine at power-up (there should be a check engine light there somewhere but it's not hooked up) and the silver band is where the prndl was, but since i have a floor shifter now, i covered it up... some day it'll say cougar or something like that :)
also, check out the mileage.... 3719 original miles... i wish :)..... also, the 2 buttons, one is for trip reset, the other switches from mph to kph.... now, that's fine with the speedo, but wtf do canadians do about the mileage :stupid:
Actually your car doesn't have a check engine light ;) There is an engine light.. but it comes on when the car overheats..
I duno about the 84's though.
Cool, thanks for the pic.
Heres the pics i promised, But only 1 door so far (Didnt feel like unloading and dealing with the other tonight).
Need to paint and dye the door panels: :punchballs:
Heres the rest of the stuff i picked up:

And heres a friend i made... While i outside in the middle of the night taking the door apart so i can get ready to paint it:
