Question: Yay or Nay
After demoralizing my self working on the car today, I took it out on some spair parts I had laying around. So let me know what you think

Now it kinda looks like a Lincoln....
I prefer the white, but like them both almost equally.
screw the grill :flip:
how about getting it running right first.. then screw with the body parts.... :raspberry
I got it running again.. just not well. I can go out and start it, she just runs like ass. And I was going to just paint the "outer edge" of the grill white and the rest black, but I oversprayed a bit and here we are. Just experminting a bit but still
Gloss black ftl.
Thanks Brian... but there is a reason I did it. The rest of the car has a gloss black under, the head lights were gloss black.. wny not runin a good 85-6 grill with gloss black as well.
The V-8 badges suck (looks like pieces that are from a salvage car stuck on for a car they don't belong on).The black grille looks like it belongs on a black car.Go chrome or white.Last but not least (for now),I saw a Fila driving the oppisite direction of me on the interstae going to Oklahoma City today. Not in bad shape either. They're still out there. How's the car running?
Mine... like shiznit. Due for a new timing chain as soon as I get one. Off the grill comes and the stock goes back on. Would it change any if I were to paint it flack black or just wait till the gar gets painted and do the new grill body color like the stock one?
Body Color FTW! Black looks way out of place. Looks good the way it is.
Tape off the center paint and paint the edges all white then put it back on and see would kind of match more with the headlights.
i personally liked the white grill... but i have to say this... DAYUM them some ugly feet :-p couldnt resist
Ok so from all this we learned that black is on for the "inner" grill but the outer MUST be body color. And That I have ugly feet. Fair enough the stock goes back on in a bit
Fix the door!:beatyoass: :hick:
I agree, outside white, mesh black.
You own this car yet?
Don't listen to Carpimp, his car is red, white and blue.Reminds me of 1976 all over again.LOL.Oh,I have a new timing chain in the box.No gears, just the chain.I won't be using it.
I know Vinnie ;) But thats about how I will do it once I paint the car. Stock is back on now so all is better in the world of Fila again
make it all white, or better yet.... pimp it in GOLD!!! then throw some 22"s on it and ride in STYLE!!! just be sure you leave the dent in the door..... no one wants to loose their street cred!!! :)
Now that's a good idea.Oh,and add a lot of that cheap Wal-mart and Autozone stick on/screw on .fake scoops, cheap pedal covers,V-8 badges under the Fila emblems, and some nice spray paint stripes. You could probably pimp out your whole car going that route for about $20.00 or so.
where's the "i dont give a shiznit" option?
Nice toes!!
I belive my good sir, that you just used it
All of this because I have 2 badges on MY car and I got bored with spray paint. I painted the grill black to see what it would look like. It looked like :shakeass: . Point taken.
Make it run first:hick:
I'd put the white grill back on it. I have never like the chrome grill.
White is the Factory grill. The 85 black/white grill will go on after some white paint is added and it is cleaned up. This was more an experiment then anything
fila... i know some of the guys are saying ick, but dont stop experimenting!!!!!!! just look at 1wldbrd's car!!
spend the time mask it off, paint it up right like i did with my grill i painted the small slats black left the big ones chrome

guys, here's a little tip that i've always used. you see yes you can take the time to mask your project up correctly, buy you'll sometimes end up having to redo it, it happens. vasoline though, you take a cuetip and spread the vasoline on anything you dont want paint to stick to. then with a rag or medical gauze wipe away and clean whats to be painted. its usually faster than masking but that could be debatable.
Cool tip bro. I'll try it when I do round 2 of this
that sounds a bit messy for me, i always spend the time masking and as you can see on the grill it looks good, compliments my clear corners well! come on my car runs better and looks better then yours now CATCH UP you have five weeks!
As I said before, I'm waiting to get a timing chain and new dizzy. It runs now just like ass.
yeh the vas trick can get messy but you dont have to go overboard with it. i occassionally have to repaint my black sport grill (i just put one coat over the chrome finish, paint chips get bad but a quick respray = fixed) and i've always used it on the bird emblem. the trick is not to glob it on, but just a thin layer. thinner the better if its a huge glob it can ruin what you painted or actually peel the paint when you whipe the paint and vas off.
but its still up to what you feel like doin. you could try it out or mess around with the trick while building a model or something?
Timing chain on the way !!!
Awsome!! Vinnie FTW!!!1!!1!! Are you taking that Throttle body from me too?
Yep.I'm taking it.Money is included in the package.
Awsome Vinnie. A new question though on this color of my car. It's kinda a flat white, and the code in the door is like cooligan.... it's not bluish. How do I match the paint to re-do the grill. Just guess?
i wouldnt worry about it until you paint the whole car. take the gas cap lid off, and take it to an auto paint supplier. they'll be able to match it.
Your right, it can wait. But I wana play with it now lol. Untill I get the timing chain from vinnie all I can do is wash the car and try to clean her up more so I'm trying to keep amused
used vasaline to do the trim around my radio. an i just came in from painting the other dash trim an used it again. think i saw it in one of BlackJacks post. works great
cool, i guessed it was an old trick b/c when my dad was a kid all the way up till i think he was 25 he would build model cars, destroy them, and buy a new one.. always came up with a crazy way to do it, but thats where i got the idea, he said he'd use it to do custom paint jobs or touch ups on already painted stuff. he's got a couple models of nascar cars that are still on shelves but thorugh the moves and me bein a lil kid playing with them (late 80's) they're trashish. at least he's good for something LOL.
