Title: Questions???
Post by: cougar1car on July 02, 2007, 06:47:59 PM
Well only maybe one question. How hard would it be to add the supercharger from a supercoupe to my 3.8 88 cougar, if at all possible and by all means tell me if this sounds like a dumbass idea. I want a little more get up and go but dont want to go through the hassle of changing the motor quite yet. :flame:

I think you would grenade your stock 3.8 by adding forced induction. I wouldn't even try it.

OK i guess so far its a no. Why you think it would suk to do it. Motor seems to run strong has 75000 miles on it. Just wondering why

I'll take a shot in the dark and say...because the engine isn't made for forced induction? Cast pistons and all that sort of .

Supercharged 3.8 V6s have forged crank, rods, and pistons. They also have a beefed up block and better head gaskets. If you put a SC blower on your stock 88 3.8 it'll go *boom* :flame:

Ok well BOOM is not my intention thats why I figured i would ask people who know more on it than I do. Thanks guys .

Why don't you star with things you can use now while you await this other motor.  For instance....Step #1:  3.73's

I think most 88's had it as apposed to 87's...

The stock n/a block can handle about 7psi before it goes boom.  Not hardly worth it considering its not hard to make a decently tuned SC engine do twice that.

The wiring harness is the bitch part.  There is no drop in, easy convert way of doing things...

Check your axle code.  It should be on the sticker on the inside of your door.  Check the Coolcats website afterwards to see which code matches yours and that will be the setup you have (as long as nobody changed it)

Does anyone else know what all the other stuff means??? Like the letter under the R or any other of the numbers or letters on there??
Title: Questions???

The R is the radio code.
The  Int./Trim is your interior code - cloth individual seats, smoke color.
TR is your transmission code - AOD
Body 66D is the body code.
Exterior paint - 1C Black

What about the 16 above the DSO and the TCCDD under the tr.    F0095, R0026????

Interior trim (DG) = Smoke cloth individual seats
(more info: http://www.coolcats.net/fox/1988colors.html)

66D = generic Cougar body code, carried over from the 1983-86 body style. Starting in 1987 the actual body order code is incorporated into the VIN (60 = LS).

Under TR is 5 characters. The first is the actual transmission code (T=AOD). The other four are your suspension's spring codes (C=front left, C=front right, D=rear left, D=rear right). I think Chuck W might be able to decipher the spring codes better. I have the codes in one of my shop manuals, but they don't translate into spring rates or anything else useful, for that matter.
