Right after work last night, I came home and stripped it for painting, I painted the door jams and under the trunk before dark, then Painted the rest this morning. The next project is to pull the motor and drop in a 331 for the Turbos.
The colour is '99 Ford: Bright Atlantic Blue Metallic.
Turned out ok, I think. I ran out of hardener so I only got two coats on the bumpers. I will pull them off again next week and finish them.
a couple of more pics..... :birdsmily:
i like the shade of blue
Looks great!
Sweet color choice. It interacts very well with the ponys and your clear lights.
Holy hell. That is so far the best looking TC I've ever seen. Great job RJ
Thanks, but it isn't a TC, it was just a base model 3.8L:D
Its not the best looking TC. Its not a TC at all...
I stand corrected. TC nose on the car. I'm not a big fan of 87-88's but yours has me sold. What color blue is that by the way
, you have me sold on that. Hot car man, love the color. Now just get some bird centercaps fabbed up for those wheels.
Nice looking paint job.It looked meaner in primer, but she cleaned up nicely with a new coat on.Good job.Fila, the color is in the first post.Look up.
Saw it Vinnie, but I mean did you do any custom mixing off the factory color or is that as it is stock?
is it the lighting, or are the bumpers darker in color?
Good job, looks great.
No it is factory colour. Nothing custom. As for the bumpers, they only got two coats, and you can see the factory colour through it in some lights so I need to do a couple more coats next weekend. Ran out of hardener. I will finish my Cowl hood and throw on it by then too.
I am very happy with it for my first paint job, and spraying it in my back yard under the trees to boot! Man does it turn heads! I have already had two people tonight yell "nice ride!":D at me.
I will give it a couple of weeks to cure then I will wet sand it and buff it out, as there is some orange peel in it. I counted on that happening anyways(actually I counted on sags and runs, but didn't get any :D SWEET! LOL) so I did 5 good coats, for that purpose.
Used a brand new HVLP gun kit I got from NAPA. Devilbliss Startingline. First time using an HVLP, and I really like it.
mikey it says the color in the first post...its a ford color.....Car looks great man!!! You going to paint the scoop or leave it body color?
I love that color I think my cat will be painted that color. Good job to love how professional it looks.
Might have to paint the truck the same color.
Wow, that gave the car some attitude for sure.
Nice Nice Nice :D Good job RJ!! Can't wait to see that cowl hood on the car.
John
Looks good man. Nice job on laying down your own paint. The colour reminds me of Hawk's TC. Personally I think some polished or chrome 17/18s would look awesome with that colour.
Looks good to me. That blue pops out at ya. You just have one to many scoops though;)
The longer you wait the harder it is to buff. Give it about 6 hours and its ready to wet sand and buff. That is one thing at work I hate is having to buff fully cured paint, its hard as hell.
how the hell do you wet sand and buff wet (soft) paint? I gave the test area I did the night to cure and tried to sand it off and it just rolled up and gummed up the paper.
Here are a couple more pics without the hood scoop. :p :D
looks tons better without the hood scoop
Looks sweet !!
You may not had put enough hardener in the paint if it is base/clear. Drying time on mine was 30 minutes at 120*
Is the driver's side not finished? I noticed it's not in any of the pictures.
This better? I didnt post any drivers side pics, because my crowning acheivment on this car has been that fender scoop:hick: . :D
It is just a single stage paint, not two stage. I will give it a week or two then wet sand it out and put on another coat it I have to.
I agree sleeper.
Thats what I thought it was,It should fully cure within a week let it sit in the direct sun as much as possible.
I love it! That blue makes if kinda look anodized. The smooth hood looks better to my eye. Keep up the great work. You wanna come and paint mine? I didn't think so it was worth a shot.
Looks great man, and I agree no scoop. Looks like you and sleeper are going to start a trend!
Looks 100% better without the hood scoop :D
Holy Sleek Beak Batman! I love it without the scoop. I just don't think these cars lines work well with a raised scoop coming outta the hood.
I'm with everyone else.. no hood scoop.
well it aint staying that way. I have a 3.5" cowl/TC hood that will make its way on there soon.
Looks good ron, have to see it in person.
Maybe car show next week.
yeah I will be there. I gotta wet sand the whole car and do one more coat this week to get rid of the orange peel. It obviously isn't a show quality job, but it does show nice, and I am happy with the results.
