Title: side swiped!
Post by: Autocat on June 27, 2007, 07:35:28 AM
its been a while, i help my dad with the bills and we both couldnt keep the internet hooked up for a couple days.  anyway, first things first.  i found out i have a broken motor mount, so when i got on it the other week the engine somehow pulled the smog pump off the header.  gas mileage went down to freakin 18mpg highway. it was eating my wallet.  then, im going down a 2 lane highway, and this guy haulin a boat was driving perfectly with the yellow line in the middle of the truck.  they just repaved that section (2 layers of asphault too) so i couldnt get away from the sob.  not only if i had dropped wheels would i had possibly hit the lower control arm on the shoulder, but i had a bridge.  i tried speeding up to beat him to the bridge but i was just too late so i had a truck majorly in my lane while i was going accross a bridge.  i literally had to shoot the gap.  i woke him up b/c he jumped in his lane, but his trailor and boat didnt quite follow him.  so i had the fenders on the trailor hit my drivers door and peel back the trim about 6 inches, leaving a dent right on the door's body line.  the boat hit my mirror and knocked the glass out but left the housing, how? i have no idea.  and then, yesterday as i was leaving for work i stopped to get something to drink, but when i hit the road again the water temp pegged within minutes.  i limped back to the gas station and started inspecting.  it came down to the thermostat was clogged.  i couldnt get to a parts store AND i was already late having to fix the sob, so basicatlly, i RIPPED the old thermostat out, sealed it up with RTV and had to drive it like that.  i've never seen a track motor that had one (im sure loads of them have em) but i knew i ddint need it..  the thing is it runs a bit cooler with clean air, and it runs at normal temp behind, say, a big box van or semi.  the crazy thing?  i havnt had the time or money to get the smog pump back on, so even with the exhaust leak on my pass side header, without the thermostat im averaging 25mpg.  im thinking with the smog pump working correctly i could get 26-27mpg.

im planning on just taking the trim off with some goo gone, going to pick a part and getting a new mirror (untill then i might put in a large bubble mirror on the mirror housing.) also im ganna disconnect the heater core, possibly get a smog pump delete kit, or just put it back on.  i dont plan on putting in another pos thermostat.

but yeh, so on the bad a bunch of shiznit has happend.  but on the good, it runs cooler, better gas mileage, im in college again (starting july 9th) got offered a cleaner job for 4 bucks more an hour.. etc

btw when that truck side swiped me i locked em down and tried to slide into a 180, but i didnt quite get all the way around, i tried chasing the sob down to get his tag number but he vanished.  it was early in the morning so all i saw coming at me were lights, looked like a f250 or f350.  i was almost possitive when i finally got out to check the car out my door was ganna be peeled back or what have you, but only the trim was screwed.

i figured out why im having such bad luck with the car... my nti parking permit was "009666"  i kept the sticker, but used a razor blade to get the mark of the beat off my car.  hopefully i wont have such bad luck with the car now. :beatyoass:

i got an idea that im ganna try instead of lexan, if it comes out the way i visualize it, you wont ever see anything like it.
