I'm looking for actual numbers not from a book or guesses.
I took my Cad-T-Bird to the scales today and it's 3,540 pounds without the driver and with a 3/4 tank of gas.
How does this compare to other turbo coupes.
Been driving mine all over the place this week and it's seems to be running great, looking for some good number at the track next Friday.
Thanks
TED
well mine hasnt hit the scales yet, so i dont have a hard number. id be interested in the numbers of those who have however.
http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/tc8788specs.htm
though ive heard as low as 3200's
so this says weight = 3415 lbs (3419 lbs with AOD trans)
but I have never been able to get my cars to match up with factory numbers, the factory always seem to be on the light side.
Someone has got to have actual numbers.
TED
Too many variables to get "actual" numbers.
My '83 (weighed with 4-corner scales) back when it had the cage and full interior with power front seats was 3250# w/o driver.
I think Chuck has had his on the scales a few times. I might be getting him mixed up with someone else, though.

-posted 2 minutes late-
Mine with the 5.0L conversion was about 3800lbs with me in it and 1/2 tank of fuel,so since i weigh about 160 let's say 3640lbs.
Now that i've got the aluminum heads, supercharger etc i'm sure the weight is again a little different.
I also have a rather large box with 3 10s and two surfboard size amps in the back which attributes it to being so heavy but hey i like my toys.
I'll run my Bird across the scales this wek.No a/c,no smog,Cobra R wheels (lighter than stock),off road x-pipe (lighter than factory exhaust with cats).Everyone's will be different, but I'm curious to see.
Mine weighed 3560 with approx 3/4 tank of gas, mini spare, jack and probably 30lbs of tools and other assorted assorted junk... At that time I was yet to fully reinstall the AC system, but the compressor and condenser were mounted... With me the scales tipped at 3760 and I'm 200 lb, so I believe the weight to be accurate...
The '88 dealer album lists the dry TC weight at 3415 for a 5speed and 3419 for auto... So apparently the aluminum headed, tube header 5.0 only weighs a few pounds more than the 4 lunger...
So at 3540 with no spare and no junk, no AC but heat, power steering, full 2 1/2 exhaust, full leather interior (no roll bar), one power seat, cruise, funky cowl hood scoop on stock hood and 3/4 tank is not too bad. So I guess the big old Caddy engine is not too heavy.
About the only things I can see to remove is the power seat unit, some sound control, and fiber glass inner bumpers (do not know how much these weigh).
I guess the best way to get it lighter is for me to go down 40 pounds.
TED
Ted,
The power seat tracks weigh about 40#s each IIRC so going to a manual driver's track will help immensely. The inner bumpers are already fiberglass. I've successfully drilled "lightening holes" in them without compromising strength, so there's another 10#s. The insulation over the front plastic wheelhouses is another 10#s.
If the seat track is 40 pounds I don't have to loose any weight! I purchased a set of Turbo Cougar manual seats (front and rear) out of the wrecking yard but I think I will only use the front driver's seat track, I kind of like the leather.
The inner bumpers are fiberglass but I bet if you remove the back-bars and inner bumpers you will loose a lot more than 10 pounds. But you would feel really stupid if you ever hit anything.
Oh yea I also removed the front sway bar but kept the rear. I also already gutted the inner front fenders but kept the plastic liner.
Anyway it's going to stay like it is for Friday and then I can start doing other thing for when I come back. Like looking for weight reduction and 3.55 gears.
TED
You'll still need to loose 15lb or so... The manual track doesn't contain any floatanium I know of... :D
Forgot to add, I have dual power seats... Guessing that "ofushl" TC weight included manual seats as the driver seat was part of the 157A preferred options pkg(which 99% seemed to have received)...
My old 88TC weighed 3407 with me in it. That was with a sunroof and A/C. My current TC has the A/C removed and no sunroof so dare I say it is probably about 3325 with me in it. This was on the scales at the virginia motorsports park
That's about 200 pounds lighter than the other or the base weight for a 87/88. Did you do anything to lighten it up?

:bs:
i jus got done with this project. i figured since mine was already off, id take the free drop in weight off the nose before i put the bumper back on.
as soon as i dropped it on the scale i KNEW the 10# claim was impossible. the bumper only weighs 14.4lbs total.
a lil over an hour later my experiment showed promise. i had drilled +40 holes in the bumper with a 1.75" hole saw and it "felt" lighter.
1.6lbs to be exact. what a waste of time......
i pulled the black nose piece off and lost another pound of weight.
2.6lbs for nearly 1.5hrs of work, and it was already off the car. figure in the fiberglass shards in my fingers and it is hardly worth the effort, especially if you hafta remove it first.
i guess if you wanna ditch it altogether, you can figure 14.4lbs plus the weight of the absorbers. i dont wanna run around with an empty cover on the front, so mine will stay.
:flame:
Ted, i weighed my car last night
3,000 on the dot with half a tank of fuel
without me of course
My 84 weighs in at 3220 lbs with nothing in the tank and me not in it.
:birdsmily:
Thanks guys.
How did you get it to 3,000 pounds? This is Mustang territory.
TED
With A/C I weighed 3,250 with out A/C and passenger seat it was3,135, both with out me on the scale(240 lbs).Have not weighed it with the k-member kit but I hope it will be in the low 3,000 range
