Title: My fuel pump is married to my tank...
Post by: ZondaC12 on June 21, 2007, 04:33:38 PM
...and they love each other VERY much, if you know what I mean.

Dropping the tank was easy, but the "locking ring" my Haynes manual describes was rusted like crazy. The tabs it says to push to rotate the ring to let the pump come right out broke as soon as I tried to push them with a screwdriver and hammer. Ugh. Really wanted to see if the mustang pump made any difference. Pretty much gotta find another tank right?

Just checkin'.

I got a new locking ring once from the parts store up here but if your tank is thaty rusted you might as well get a new one.

If it is just the lockikng ring that you want they sell them in the Help section of the parts store.

sorry. shoulda gotten pics. DOH!!! its back in now so i cant. though i could drop it again tomorrow or something.

it looks like the ring slides in a collar that is part of the tank itself, and it looks like the two are rusted together actually, so the ring wont move at all. worse still is that the little tabs, like 2 or 3 of em, on the ring that the Haynes manual says to use a chisel and non-steel hammer to push, in order to rotate the ring, broke right off when i tried to do that just for the hell of it in case it *might* move a little.
