Title: what a py phone
Post by: jcassity on June 19, 2007, 05:36:13 PM
ok,,
i got a motorola razor from the company a couple weeks ago.

Its got so may features ill never use but anyway.  I gotta go do a survey down in Bothane Alabama next week and i thought,
humm,,, maybe ill just figure out how to get pictures off this phone and usb cable them to my laptop.

Meaning,,, one less piece of equipment to carry around (no camera that is)

well,, after digging through the 3/4'' manual and quick user guide,, there seems to be no way to just simply take a picture and get it on your laptop.  You must be within cell service range to even activate this bluetooth  and even at that, it costs money to do so and im figuring its gonna be a pita.

just ranting but does anyone know of a driver i could load so my  phone can commo with my laptop and download pics?

what a waste of engineering,,, pos razor.

I have the same phone and the only way to get them off the phone is by purchasing the USB 1.1 to 2.0 cable, $75 in a cell store. Something like $40+ on eBay.

And it has to be the Motorola cable, I tried a noname one with the right software/program and no such luck.

My fiance just got rid of her Razr a couple weeks ago. She was having the "known" battery issue.

Where the 'ell is Bothane? I lived in Alabama most of my life and I have never heard of it.

who is your carrer. and all you need is a usb-a to mini-usb. Then the motorola drives from motorola. and p2kcommander. then just navigate to the proper folder. and bam, you have picutres on the PC from the Phone.

I got the Slvr and I love it. Even with the verizon UI it is really easy to work around it. If you need any help just PM me.

I was never so disappointed as when I got my camera phone (Samsung something-or-other) and discovered that not only are the pics really, really py quality, but that I needed to send them to an online server and download them from there to get them onto my PC. Each time I do this counts as one of my text messages. Luckily I never send text messages, but the cheap-ass package I got only includes 25 free messages per month. That means that if I take 26 pictures I have to pay extra to download one of 'em.

FVCK THAT.

My contract expires this coming March, and I won't be renewing it or getting any other plan. I'll be getting a "pay-as-you-go" phone and buying maybe 30 minutes a month, which is still more than I ever use...

You've got a long drive ahead of you.

If you need the Razr's camera for anything but throwaway pics, use a real digital camera. Digi-cam photos suck.

i use BitPim for my LG VX9800, but you should be able to use Motorola Mobile Phone Tools. i use a cheap ebay usb cable, too.

http://www.howardforums.com is a great source for cell phone hacks.

You'll need a standard USB A to A mini to connect to your computer. As for software you'll need the Motorola Phone tools software (preferably version 4 or better). You can pick it up at Cell phone store, Ebay, or you could "torrent" it for free... But you didn't get that last idea from me ;) ;) !

*Edit*
I's fersgots, you'll also need the P2k driver, just google it and you'll find it.

Man I almost bought that phone, glad i didn't. I read reviews of the V3xx and how it was the razor of all razors and how they got it right finally.

How you like At&t? I was thinking of switching to a family talk rollover plan..

Ah. Makes sense now. I know where that is. My grandpappy used to live there before he passed. Actually he lived in Newton but no one knows of that place. And yes you have a nice little haul ahead of you.

i dont like or dislike any service as long as i have dial tone where i think i should.

Sprint has a better coverage area over here on the east coast than att but thats my opinion.  when you get dial tone in gap mills wv ,, thats doing something and sprint seems to be able to do that.

as for the phone,, i dont really care about resolution,, i just need pics so i can do my survey,, pull up a pic and use the pic to help me type up the quote.,, thats all.

i need a straight answer here on this,

I need a usb (mini to flat , laptop is the big flat ones x 6 ports

and

a driver

and software?

or did i miss something.

if anyone can talk me through this id appreciate it otherwise, im just gonna tote my digi camera all the fuggggginnng time.

You need the cable that connects to you digi camera.  Then just download Moble Phone Tools. (yours should be able to do anything with it being that it isn't a verizon UI).

Modmymoto.com has a guide to help you connect your phone, and a plus is that it is all free stuff too.

Here is the link http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/v3x/

If you have a verizon UI that is almost impossible to do.

Lol Verizon blows for Bluetooth and data transfer, it's something that they are actually getting sued for in Cali I believe.  Anyhow, I ssecond BitPim, use it on my LG VX8600.  It'll work for Razr's too I believe.  But the Motorola Software seems pretty good from what a guy at work was telling me.

dude, i went to that link,,, subscribed,, downloaded the file and it does not work.

now,,
when i went to download i had two options,,,,
Open or Save
it was a zip file so i Opened it (windows put it in a temp folder)
I ran it from there and installed.
It did not install like the instructions said it would.  The driver landed in my c:dell/drivers folder
but......
the instructions clearly showed that i should shove it in my programfiles/win32

i was unable to put it there no matter what.

sucked ass to tell you the truth.

im still stuck.

meanwhile i looked over the download description and no where did it mention things like "pictures""transfering them to your computer" ect ect.  All it described was some bla bla bla about some other stuff i know nothing about ,, confusing.

are you sure you pointed me to the correct link?  there were two other versions of the download and i just picked the most recent.  maybe the versions are very different and totally unrelated.  I downloaded 2.0 or whatever whas the latest and greatest.

Start with this:

http://motomodders.net/Portals/0/UserFiles/User11/Motorola_Drivers_29.rar

When you plug your phone in it should ask for the driver, point it to what you've extracted out of that file.

Then root around torrent sites for Motorola Phone tools.

jcassity,

I will send you the proper drivers for you phone, and do a little write up on how to install em for ya. you should be receiving an email Sunday night some time due to the fact that I am out of town at the moment.

I will help you get connected, don't worry.

Also if you can buy software, I would purchase Mobil Phone Tools for the Motorola website. It should work with your phone being that it isn't verizon.

Sorry for the long post. :)
