Title: My friend is on crack
Post by: kingcars on June 05, 2007, 04:22:31 PM
Ok, last night a friend and I got into a debate. I will leave all specifics out of this so nobody will know who it is. Anyways, as we were talking, he made a couple of claims about his cars, and I instantly called bs. I know he doesnt lie, but the method of which these claims came about isn't exactly concrete. Supposedly some local street racers have a 1/4 strip of road that they use and he ran his cars and they tracked the time with a stop watch. But lets just take a look at what he said his vehicles ran, and then I'll go over the specs of the vehicles.
Vehicle #1: 13.8 @ 105mph Vehicle #2: 15.8
Alright, now lets take a look at a few specs on these bone stock vehicles.
I argued that there is NO WAY IN HELL that either of these cars could run those times with those sort of specs. Let's take a look at my car, in comparison:
Ok, so his vehicle #1 is 1200lbs HEAVIER than my car, has 24 LESS horsepower, and 107 LESS ftlbs of torque, yet not only is its trap speed 15mph better, it somehow runs the 1/4 2 seconds quicker?
Now how about vehicle #2. It is 200lbs lighter than mine, but it has 95 less hp (and the same rear end ratio) and I seriously dont think it has anywhere near 300ftlbs either, yet it runs the same ET? I asked my dad what he thought, and he also says my friend is on crack.
So please tell my friend that he's on crack. Even after I went over all these facts with him, he still stands by his claims.

You need to line 'em up at your REAL local track with a REAL timekeeping system, it all comes out on the piece of paper from the little house at the other end then. If he's that sure of himself add a little "financial incentive" to make things more interesting. Your argument will waste infinite amounts of time and bandwidth if you don't.

He doesnt live very close to me...and I think that just some common sense could save us both the trouble...
His two cars are 16/17 sec cars. Plain and simple.
EDIT: just added some extra info. (p/w ratios)

Hook me up with his supplier...I need to go fast too! :hick:
Seriously...he's fulla shiznit..or his car has a JATO rocket bolted to it, one. (My guess is..he doesn't know what a 12 second car feels like when his ass is strapped into one..)

You dont really need to know what the cars are...just look at the stats. They speak for themselves.
@FordTruckFreeek - Yeah, I'm thinking there must be a rocket strapped to them...

I'm guessing Vehicle 1 is a Ford Escape. Possibly a V6 Explorer.
Actually, that might say 1443kg on the curb weight...hard to tell. That's 3,182lbs. He also said that this vehicle kept up with a brand new Stang which is 3,600lbs and 300hp.
If Vehicle #1 is in fact 3,200lbs (which is pretty impressive for its size), then I'll give it high 15s/low 16s. Vehicle 2, however, I still stand by my original mid 16 at best.

That page says 1987kg on the gross weight... curb weight says 1443kg... which is about 3200lbs.
my guess for Vehicle 2 is something like a taurus, or grand am, sunfire, etc...
though a 98 mustang v6 weighs 3065lbs... but has something like 145hp?
this 03 escape weighs 3065lbs as well... and has 127hp http://335.carsite.com/index.cfm?page=4&INVENTORY_ID=1632412

Well he said it has "the same rear end ratio".

There are lots of vehicles that came with the same rear end ratio as mine :)

99-02 Cougar:
Quote
The 1999–2002 Cougars were available with two engine options, the 2.0 L Zetec 4-cylinder engine with 130 horsepower, and the 2.5 L Duratec V6 with 170 horsepower.
Curb weight listed is right at 2900 pounds, but my wife's 2000 is listed at just over 3000 on the registration. That's why my 1st guess for Veh.#2 was a 4 cyl. 99-02 Cougar.
As for Veh#1 the motor specs screamed 4.0 v6. Weight seemed a little high for an Escape, but I'm unsure how much they weigh so I added the Explorer as an option as well.

99-02 Cougar is a very good guess, but not quite it.

Hey now! Watch what you say about those Tibby owners :beatyoass:
although I'm not one of the typical owners.

Rear end ratio= rear wheel drive. Tibs are front wheel anyway.
oh and i-4 tibs are about 135 wheezy hp and V-6 cars are about 170.
