Title: Ram Air Fender (updated! Pics-Pg3)
Post by: 1WLD BRD on May 31, 2007, 07:00:49 PM
I decided to add a custom touch to my fender since I had it off to do the body work anyways.  I figure this will make it a one of a kind deal.  Added one of my TC replica scoops to it.  turned out pretty good me thinks...  Still gotta do the putty work but almost all the metal work is done.  now I just gotta build a box behind it to make it functional which will happen tomorrow.  The driverside may get the samething, as I have a few things that need lots of air, to go in behind there, ;)

It won't suck in a lot of water will it?Those things worry me.It looks awesome.I'd add another to the other fender, just to even things up.Maybe not functional, but it would balance out the front of the car.

What are you trying to cool? Those scoops don't pull in alot of air unless you are moving at higher speeds. Looks good so far. I wanna see the finished pics.

Thanks guys.  A little water (as in, what ANY OF the ram air systems out there, will/could suck up under normal driving conditions) wont hurt your motor, unless of course you try driving under water.  as for the none functional part?  I think this will make it functional on the driverside as well dont you? ;):

Hence the term "Ram Air".  not to be too much of a dick.  But, I have been seriously working on cars and building them up since I was 16, I know how these scoops work.  look at where the stock intake tract is on these cars, now think of the benifits of a cooler, denser intake charge with out all the extra plumbing from a March ram air kit.  Plus I did it just to be a little different then the guy beside me at a car show.

actually since It needs a rebuild anyways, It is cheaper to rebuild a 351W then it is the HO, so that will go in instead.

"Plus I did it just to be a little different then the guy beside me at a car show".

That would be me LOL.
Dam ron i don't think your gonna be ready by next wednesday, unless you go hardcore this weekend and "get er done".
Not a bad idea though,if you run a cold air setup through the hole in the inner fender wall where the power pipe goes on mine it would be easy to make it work.

RJ, you painting the whole inside of the scoop body color?  Or something like flat black?

Post by: 1WLD BRD on May 31, 2007, 11:06:35 PM
Haha yep Chris, your right. lol.
I will be pounding away at it none stop til I get it done.  I may not get it painted but I hope to get it all in primer by wedn.

Probably be body colour.  I want it to be different but subtle enough that you only notice it if you really look at it.

The motor needs a rebuild because it had over 230kms on it when I threw it in, and now the bearings are rattling on start up.  so why not go bigger whenI have a good 351W here that just needs a refreshening.

One thing i have never got around to doing yet i was gonna buy a extra set of TC scoops but with the UPR fenderwell kit i might have to find a smaller scoop that sits closer to the front of the fender.

Got idea form a foxbody mustang that has a hole cut out for the cold air kit will post pics if i can find that mustang again.

Also gonna do something else with the fenders but i can't tell you till its done otherwise i won't be the 1st to have it.

This is a somewhat crazy idea but it looks good just needs some paint to touch it up. ***** 5 stars one of a kind and looks FBA.

Nice, that is clean.  Is it just me or does your whole front clip look like it's drooping?  Maybe it's just the 2 different colors.  Anyhow, glad to see it's taking shape, and it finally has wheels.  Your car is quickly turning into a whole new vehicle.  Keep up the good work.

She's gettin there ron but you gotta put a scoop on the other fender to balance it out,the one looks good but 2 would be even better.
Don't you have a TC front bumper????
If so ya gotta put it on and get rid of that stocker, it'll look so much nicer.
If not ya gotta primer up what's left of the paint on that one.
The ponies are waitin ron, lol.

haha yeah, I got a tc bumper but it is in rough shape.  I will probably primer the front end tomorrow too.  I dont know if I should primer it without flex additive though. :dunno:

Use the flex additive. We use flex primer on all bumper covers. Looks really cool. I was skeptical at first, but i really like it. The wheels set it off too. What color are you going to paint it? are you going to paint the wire mesh body color also? Also digging the hood off the other bird, wheres the TC cowl? We want pics!

full view shots added to the users rides section.

Thanks for all the comments guys.  Aparrently the majority thinks I should add a second scoop on the drivers side as well, so after the car show tomorrow I will be taking the front end off again and adding it.

You can add the flex additive to all the paint on the front of the car it will help cut down on rock chips and such. Also Urthane paints will help with the rock chips. So have you got the box for the Ram Air part made yet? If so we want pics. The scoop is lookin Good.  I don't like the blue/black paint Idea. The scheme looks good but the color make me think it is a big bruse. LOL just kidding

no I haven't made the box yet, had to concentrate on the rest of the body to get it in primer for tonight.  I will work on it after the show, and get some pics of it up.  Plus I stilll gotta finish the cowl hood yet too.

i belive no primer on the cover just add the flex agent let it tack and then paint paint. thats what my buddy did with his BMW when her replaced the cover. no issues and it's a DD.

The more i look at it, the more i think you should loose the hood scoop. It makes the car look very busy. I think one of your cowls would look much better and cleaner.
