Title: Click!
Post by: Jim_Miller on May 31, 2007, 03:43:05 PM
Ok, I can’t ignore it any longer. It IS happening and it IS driving me crazy. Ever since I did all the work on my Bird it has had a “click” noise.
A description of the “click”
The first time I heard it I I had just shut the car off and “click” I thought my window had cracked. Like having a rock chip that finally shoots accost the window as a crack. THAT kind of click. Like if you were to take a wooden chopstick and drop it end first on something solid “click”.

I checked all the windows, nothing, no chip, crack, nothing. Shrugged it off and figured I was hearing things.

Then I heard it again “click”, :wtf: and now it’s virtually EVERY time I stop and shut the car off I hear one single lone “click” :wtf: usually from over my left shoulder but just now coming back from lunch, I shut it off and “click” :wtf: from in front of me to the passenger side, like the windshield area.

This is not a cracked window as it’s been going on for over a week “click” (while I try to ignore it “click” , assume I’m imagining “click” it) if it was a window cracking it would be falling out by now.

I do not hear it while moving the car. (Earlier today it was as I walked away I was 3-5 feet from the car “click”)
I hear it almost 100% of the time after I shut the car off 10-15 seconds and then “click”.
I can’t recall hearing it at any stop lights.
I HAVE heard it while pulling away from the curb “click”.

Is driving me “click” crazy!!

Recent work done to the car.

8.8 rear with 5 lug.
New wheels, Tires, Lugs and Locks.
91 Mustang spindles with Lincoln 5 lug.
Mustang Gas KYB Shocks and 91 GT springs (2” drop at least)
Mustang Gas KYB Struts.
New calipers rotors all around.
New Master Cylinder
TC Rear sway bar.
Lincoln E-brake cable.

Any Ideas what might cause a “click” ?

Maybe a relay?

Thats what I would guess too.  Try changing your Fuel pump relay

Parking Brake Off, I seldom if ever activate the PB. Everywhere I park is flat.

Any Idea what relay, I’m pretty sure it’s always behind the driver’s seat near the rear side window. Are there any relays in the side panel there? Wouldn’t think so but what do I know, I have never taken that area apart. I know I said I heard it in front on the passenger side but that was Once out of 40-50 times.. so probably not real (echo or something)

I have heard it several times while walking away from the car, get about 10 feet away and ‘click” from behind me.

I have also found a way to stop it from clicking, If I get out and then bend down near the back of the drivers door looking like a screwball in a store parking lot prowling around a car trying to hear it to track it down closer … it WONT “click”! Instead people just look at me funny, So I’m back to pretending I don’t hear it.

Is it the lower part of the seatbelt maybe?

do you put the windows down and then up every time you drive/park it? how about the locks?

is it a sharp click (describing it the way you are it seems to be) or is it a thud on the body panel like a golf ball hitting a fender click?  all i could think is a solenoid gets discharged after a few minutes... possibly a faulty ground?  thats one of those ghost type deals.

loosen then retorque the lug nuts. Snug them all first before tightening them.

Sharp click Like dropping a chopstick (small round 6-8" long piece of wood... I hate the "RICE" sound of chopstick) end first onto a mounted window glass.

New info:
1) It IS coming from the drivers door!
2) I can recreate it by closing the door with the window UP and count
"one thousand one"
"one thousand two"
....yadda yadda.....
"one thousand six"
"click"

Every time IF the window is UP never with the window down and always 6 secounds!

This also explanes the "click" as I walk away from the car (6 secounds)

as best as I can tell it's coming from right near the lock at the top rear of the door.

As my passanger window has came loose from the track, I'm thinking my drivers window is beginning to do the same, although it still travels up and down all the way just fine.

Are you just rolling the window up before you get out of the car? If you are it could be a circuit breaker maybe i dont know for sure if there is one in the door but i think there is. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a better answer.

Edit:
After re-reading i wonder if it is the linkage from the lock cylinder or the door handle.

when i had to put my car on a trailer crammed full with my apartment when i got home i heard this click... sounded like it was comeing from the floor.  i started freakin out tryin to figure out if something happend while it was on the trailor for 6 hours... it dawned on me, so i looked in the window (after hearing the click every 3 seconds or so) a piece of my desk had shifted and was pushing forward on my adjustble seats on the center console.  is it possible that when you press the up button on the window button its "hung" in the up possition where it clicks b/c its still trying to roll the window up?  does it happen only once or every 6 seconds or 6 seconds then 12 seconds etc.?

I cant tell you how many times i have read and re-read your problem.

At beast this time yesterday i was going to say fuel pump relay cutting off.

now that you say is directly related to the window or door,,
do this.......

remove the door panel and rearrange/move/untweek/tweek the wiring harness to the door lock solenoid and the lock/unlock buttons.

if it goes away, you have a cracked insulated wire barely touching ground.

Im curious if you stand there long enough if you will not hear it again happening all on its own.  If it does,, then you just found your problem.

Although a door lock solenoid does not have a clck sound, more like a clunk,, im all the more curious to what your problem is as well because the solenoids dont make "click" noises.,,relays do.
