Title: A breath of fresh air, and once again I'm on the fence...
Post by: Thunder Chicken on May 27, 2007, 10:33:38 PM
...for the Bird, that is. I needed to get the lawn tractor out of the garage, and the only way to do so was to move the 'Bird. Today marks the first time the car has sat on its own four wheels (albeit only held on with two lugs each :hick:) and moved under its own power since around Christmas. Letting the car sit on its own wheels taught me one thing: this car has GOT to come down in the arse end!!! From behind it looks like a 4WD truck right now. Guess those CHE adjustable arms brought it up more than I thought they would (the arms are adjusted all the way down, too).

Some pics of my not-so-pretty 'Bird enjoying the sunshine, still without that right door finished (note the sky-high arse):

And this final pic is what I'm on the fence about. Now I don't know if I wanna install the TC hood or not. I like the looks of the TC hood, but I'm kinda liking the smooth hood with the smooth TC header panel. Besides, once that 351 is in there the hood will have to be cut. Then again, the 351 won't be going in for at least a year.  me and my indecision...

...oh, and subframe connectors absolutely ROCK when raising and lowering a car without having a hoist! I just put the jack under the SFC at the seat brace, jacked up the whole side, pulled both axle stands out, dropped that side, and repeated for the other side. Total time about three minutes :D

Put the TC hood on for the time being, then cut up the stock hood for the 351....but I thought 351s didnt need any extra clearance in our cars?

I dunno, but with the TC hood it definitely would. The hood scoops barely clear the A/C compressor with the 302. If I can keep the engine under the hood without cutting it it'll be a bonus, but if not I won't be too upset (cutting the non-TC hood that is)...

Smooth hood +2

Another thing you might do if you can get your hands on some 1"x1" square tubing.  Weld it along the inside of the rocker pinch weld...Makes jacking the car up even easier and gives you a better place farther outboard to put jackstands.

I'm for the smooth hood as well.  Sleepers' car looks great with it.

Making it a sleeper is a cool idea too.

Having just looked at Sleeper's thread (on dialup, which was HELL) I think I'm liking the smooth hood more.

Chuck: good idea about the 1X1 tubing - once I bring the arse of this car down I'll probably need it to get a jack under the car anyway. Doesn't the E-brake brackets get in the way though? (though I suppose moving them would not be rocket science)

Jcassity: This 351 (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=13955")
