Title: Rim Help
Post by: AKBirdy on May 24, 2007, 04:40:55 PM
My stock aluminum rims (mustang rims) are old and have some black spots on them that are hard to clean as well as some peeling going on with the clear coat on the rims.  What can I do to clean these and can I paint these aluminum rims?.  What can I do to clean and what kinda prep/paint should I use?.

I redid my turbines a few years back and the same method should work fine for the 10 holes.

To remove factory clear coat, use acetone and a brillo pad.
No real prep work is necessary. To paint I used Duplicolor wheel paint and then clear coated them with Duplicolor wheel clear coat.

There's other ways to go about cleaning and painting them but this is the way I did it and it worked great.
I have pics of the process up on my cardomain page for the '88 Cougar.
