Title: digital dash Q's
Post by: AKBirdy on May 24, 2007, 03:01:28 PM
Ok, I've been looking at alot of pics on here of peoples cars and every picture of other peoples t-birds and cougs have a regular dash cluster with needles. My car has a digital dash. What years were the digital offered besides my 88' and was this an option, upgrade, or downgrade?. I think I would like needle gauges better. I have NO oil pressure gauge, just an idiot light and I hate that. Also my speedo reads to 85mph only.

The buttstuffog gauges are O.K.,but I actually miss my base digital cluer I had in my other Bird.I did the mod on it so it would read up to 199 mph.My buttstuffog gauge only reads to 95.That sucks.I'll probably swap in a Stang 140 mph gauge and run a speedo cable to the tranny.

Full digi dash was optional on 85-88 Cougars, base T-birds, and LX T-birds. 1987 Thunderbird Sports also had the full digi dash. My 1988 T-bird LX has one. I think it's cool. I have water temp, oil pressure, and a volts guage. It also has a tach. Be warned though it uses specific sensors that are a bit hard to find and different from the base dash sensors.

my dash is exactly like whats pictured above... i've thought about going to needles but the star wars computer on the right side of the dash tells me when im in the gas too much or too long. i dont think i could live without inst. econ.(between 3mpg and 99mpg, dynamic), avg. econ.(21.9mpg), Distance till Empty(TBD), distance, and avg speed (mines 46mph :X imagine all the times i ride through city streets at 35mph) only problem i ran into was with the service light, and i assume (since i dont use the feature) the speed alarm would cause the same effect, which was the speedo would get fuzzled and you could only read it when you learned either left or right. the service light wasnt even lit but i cleared it and never had the problem again. i used metalic tape for the bridge so it'll go over 85mph. plus, the digital read out of how many gallons (or litters) in numbers is sweet when gas is 4 dollars a gallon. like i said, i thought about needles but if i did that, i'd be running a lot of autometer guages and i think it'd look cluttered. if it was a BASE digi dash without star wars and even a tach... i'd throw the sob in the air and take it out with a 12 guage, and replace it with needles.

Hey Vinnie why don't you do a 140 MPH Mod (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/140speedo.html") on a stock speedo? I think it would be easier. It might not though. Just curious. I didnt mean to hijack

Well technically mine's from either an '83 or '89 Grand Marquis (the guy that sold it to me told me it was from an '89, but it had an E3 part number on the sticker on it), but yep :D

I've thought about that mod, but,to install the Stang gauge,it would only require a hole in the firewalland the speed sensor.
Title: Changing to Mass air computer.
Post by: Naughty Kitty on May 25, 2007, 04:59:25 PM
Hey guy's since we are talking about digital dashes. I am in the process of changing to a mass air computer. Will this effect my dash on a 87 Anniv. I was wondering if I would loose my guages and inst fuel economy and other neat things the dash has. Thank You
