Is it doable to get traction with a combination of tires and suspension on the above setup for 1/4 mile? Any good suggestions?
How much power & how wide of a tire?
If it's a factory axle in a turbo coupe, it's an 8.8" rear.
What broke on your 7.5?
Its an lx sport model. 350 ft. lbs. and as wide a tire as I could fit.
As it stands right now I have a GT-40P headed HO with a Comp 266HR cam pushing 320+ft/lbs torque. With 215/70/R14 Uniroyal Tiger Paws and a 3.73 Traction-Lok it has no traction. Anything over 1/4 throttle from a stop results in wheel spin and at least 5 feet if not more of granualted tire. A 215 section tire is about as big as you can go on stock 14" wheels. I'd suggest you step up to at least a 15" wheel with a 225 section tire. That's what I'm going to do at some point. Oh and it'll do the same thing with the A/C on full blast:hick: . I need bigger tires.......
Throw some 235/60/14s on the rear thats what my bird had on it when i got it. It might not stop your traction issue completely but it will help.

Was wondering if these would work on the back of an '88 lx bird with stock 14" rims?

there too wide plus there a bias ply tire.
Get some drag radials... Cold my Bird will fry the 245/50/16 Nittos, but get a little heat in them and they bite very well...
I'm going to try the MT DRs, everybody I've talked with really like them...
