You may remember about two months ago when I had the kidney stone (thread is here (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=12923&highlight=kidney+stone")). After that stone the doctor sent me for a CAT scan, where they found that I had four or five small stones (less than 1mm, or about the size of a grain of coarse sand) and one big one (4mm X 8 mm, or about the size of an Advil 200mg tablet). For those that don't know about kidney stones, a 1MM stone is painful enough to bring you to your knees. They say that passing one is one of the most painful experiences the human body can endure without going into shock. It was a 1mm stone I passed when I went to the hospital. According to the doctor, the 4X8 one was pretty safe where it was at, because it was simply too big to pass. He told me he'd set me up with a specialist.
Ever since that stone I had about four or five others, including three Sundays in a row. Aside from the first one I didn't bother going to the hospital - it's an hour drive, all they do is give me painkillers, and I have plenty of percoset here, so I suffered them out at home. The most recent was on Tuesday, when I spent the
better part of the day rolling around in absolute agony. It was the worst of all the previous ones, so I figured it might be one of the bigger "less than 1mm" ones. I took three percoset. I've taken percoset for nine years for back pain and have never taken three in a day, let alone three at once, but it still didn't kill the pain. I also figured it was the last, having counted roughly the same number as the CAT scan told me I had.
What made this last one different was that ever since I had the "attack" I had been having trouble peeing. The pee would come out fine until I was just about finished, then a surge of pain in my . It actually felt like something was partially blocking my pee hole. I actually called the doctor yesterday to ask him if he'd set up the appointment with the specialist because of the problems I was having.
Well.
At about 5PM today I had a normal pee, but as usual, right at the end I had the sharp pain. This time it was different - the pain was ten times worse, and I actually felt something move. All evening I'd been in pain, feeling like something was now completely blocking my ureter (or whatever the piss hole is called). Then, at about midnight the urge to pee hit. I was literally terrified at what would happen - terrified to the point I called my sister because I wanted someone to be handy, even if on the phone, in case something happened (you can imagine her amusp00get at me calling her at midnight so she could listen to me peeing). So I started to pee. It was hurting like hell and just barely trickling out...
...then it moved again. Very much pain ensued. The pee stopped. My thing swelled up to about twice its normal size (meaning that, for the first time in years I could actually see it). I let out a yelp. Then, almost like a pea shooter, it came out with a stream of pee. I actually saw it in flight.
It was the big one. I actually salvaged it out of the toilet to deliver to the doctor. It is about the size of an Advil.
I actually pissed the 4MM X 8MM kidney stone out tonight. The one the doctor told me I couldn't pass.
You can not imagine how much better I feel - not only in a physical sense for not having that thing stuck in there anymore, but in a relief sense as well, for knowing that I don't have to dread passing it (or having it block something in the middle of the night). It was over an hour and a half ago and I just now have the strength to hold my laptop and tell you all about it.
Anyway, I know most of you probably don't care about my plumbing problems, but I'm so relieved I had to tell everyone. Time for some nice, peaceful sleep, the first truly peaceful sleep I've had in two months...
Just one thing: Unless you've pissed a piece of gravel out, don't dare call me a wimp :flip:
now thats a nice bedtime story. man, im impressed and feel wicked sorry for you at the same time. i cant imagine what that felt like. ive passed a tiny one and all i could think about was slaming my head into the toilet to knock myself out it hurt so bad.
i just got home recently myself after having my gallbladder out a couple days ago. it was a no big deal thing but the pancriatitus (sp as always) hurt pretty bad. noting like that though. first time ive had the pleasure of percs. they are nice but i try like hell to stay away from that stuff but i like em.
i realy hope you feel better and your done with it. have a good nights sleep when its time...
, even now, I'm swearing to drink less soda...and more water. Right now.
With that said...I had a bladder infection when i was about 12, imagine being home alone from school, mom was still at work yet, and having to pee every 5 minutes, then peeing blood.
The pain...was worse than anything I'd ever felt up till my little episode in 2004, but I have heard that even still a stone, much less one that big is about the ultimate in pain for a guy in that regard.
I truly hope you're done with the stones...reading about it near made me cringe so hard I wanted to quit reading.
dude...you're tough. I'd probably have cried like a baby.
Never mind getting online later on and telling about it, i'd have been so strung out on the pain pills I'd be drooling and moaning.
Glad it's over with it, and hope it stays that way.
I've been feelin better myself since around Jan/Feb this year when I REALLY started laying off the soda. I only drink it when I'm out at a restaurant (which is twice a week at most), and very VERY rarely at home (only twice since Jan/Feb). I mainly drink water, Gatorade, Lemonade, and milk.
Glad to hear you got through ok...and ...I'd probably be knocked out for a week after that
reminds me of a Seinfeld episode
Holy Hell Carm!
Wow man that is scary. I dread ever dealing with anything like this. Good job, next time a woman says you have no idea of pain... Tell her to shove it.
WIMP!!! Just kidding. I just hope I never have to find out what that feels like. Glad to hear your feeling better. WOW! and WHEW! That's all can say about that. You deserve the bird sign for that. :birdsmily:
owww!
I passed one about 1/4" dia. 8 or so years ago. When it went from my kidney to my bladder I felt like Freddy Kruger was doing his worst. That was actually the easy part.
Now when I hear a woman say, "You men don't know the pain of childbirth." I have an argument for them.
When a woman gives birth to a 20 lb bowling ball covered in 40 grit sandpaper we'll talk.
And now, in case my description didn't make you hurt enough, I present a picture of my newborn son. I think I'll call him EEEEEEEAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! in honour of the sound I made as he came into the world:

On the left is a 200mg Advil, center is my boy (notice his rough texture - the "Piss of a thousand razor blades"), and right is a shiny new Canadian penny (worth about 0.92 US pennies). I was talking to my doctor this morning and he wants the stone to give to the lab, so I took the pic for posterity (I was gonna encase it in clear resin and make a paper weight out of it :hick:)
that SUCKS man, woulda been a freaky paper weight lol
Ugh... dear God. What is it you have to keep out of your diet to avoid kidney stones? Gonna cross whatever it is off of my shopping list forever.
about the only thing i can counter with is having a blood sugar level of 1400, and still being awake and reasonably coherent. most people pass out at 500mgl. in feb i was in the hospital though, and one of my problems was a small kidney stone, along with a nasty abcess, and other problems.
Carm, that makes me cringe lookin' at that...holy hell.
That was what my "episode" in 2004 was...elevated blood sugar, heat exhaustion, and dehydration.
2 i.v. bags of solution and some orange shiznit that burnt like fire when it got to my hand made me feel a bit better, but i was wiped out for about 4 days from the whole thing.
Oh, the pain from that...felt like a fever, pain all over...only it was worse than any fever i've ever had before or since. I was literally shaking and could not get warmed up for about 5 hours.
I dunno what that orange stuff was in the vial they injected into my i.v. line was, but they said I wouldn't be able to walk out of the E.R., but I did...wasn't very steady though. :hick:
Not sure what my level was, but I was passing out on the way there. The dumbf*cks told me that my liver had failed. Heh.
at least you don't have peehole spiders. lol
jesus freaking christ i feel for you man.

Dunno yet - that's why they want to buttstuffyze it, to see what it's made of. If it's calcium I'll have to cut calcium (I doubt it, since I don't drink milk and don't get much calcium as it is). If it's lipids I'll have to cut down on fatty foods (this is probably the case). If it's uric acid I dunno what I'll have to cut down on (I didn't think uric acid could solidify, but according to my doctor it can)...
*EDIT* funny thing, after seeing that Tang thing in Mayhem's post: One thing the doctor said it could be is excessive vitamin C. Vitamin C is probably the only vitamin I get too much of - I drink a LOT of juice (and water), but rarely ever do I drink pop. Each can of juice has like 200% of the recommended daily amount of vitamin C, and I drink about 1/2 dozen cans a day.
I know they actually add Vitamin C to most any kind of juice you can think of, in the form of ascorbic acid. Lots of 'em boast things like "130% Vitamin C per serving."
ooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, and I was worried about a little chest pain! :hick:
D@#*MN That makes me cringe just looking at it!! Hell, I thought 758 was bad for my triglycerides (SP??) I drink WAAAAAYYY too much soda, wife's always yelling at me to drink more water and other things besides soda. :( You're the man Dude!! Just hope that football you passed didn't do any other damage.
John
O MY GOD! Picture is more than enough to describe the pain. I'm surprised you didn't pass out from it. I think I would have.
After that I'd much rather take shrapnel from an IED then have to endure that. Good god man.
Holy . Wow......I'm speechless. It looks like a friggin piece of glass!!
That picture has made me dizzy.....I have to lie down!
I hope you know I picture that thing every time I take a piss now.
