Setup on the table.
Holley 600, Edelbrock Performer, Lokar Throttle Cable and AOD Kickdown Bracket and Cable.

Everything on there. Edelbrock Air Cleaner. All the linkage is hooked up except the actual lever to the pedal which I have to get a smaller ball joint for. See all the in the heads! I recommend everyone takes their Valve covers off and cleans the carbon and off them hahaha. Getting Edelbrock Chrome Valve Covers Tomorrow.

The Mac Daddy!
:headbang:
Fixed now the pics are showing up. Woohoo!
Beautyfull. Even though I ditched my plans for a carb, I can still appreciate a well-executed carb swap. Lokar FTW!
Lokar FTW x2!! near teh same setup I have man. Only your new parts are shiny!!
nice.
be weary of carb backfires those air cleaners like to burn
Thanks! It was actually really easy. I'm sure 84 Fila could tell you the same. I just gotta hook up the fuel line and the distributor now.
But yeah lokar really makes it all work without a problem.
I am thinking about ditching the A/C as it kinda throws off the look of the engine. (just a big bulky thing up front ehh.) Plus it does not really work right now even though I am sure it just needs a recharge.
As far as the air cleaner. Thanks man I will be careful about that. I got that one because it looks cool/reusable but the main reason it because it flows well and hood clearance.
Nice!
I'm thinking about doing this but if I do I'm going to paint the intake so it kind of looks stock.
A word of advice about the sludge in the cylinder heads: Unless you can prevent it from getting into the oil drainback holes, leave it. I've seen more than one engine eat itself because somebody had the top end apart and decided to clean things up. All that gets into the oil pan, plugs the pickup screen, and voila - no oil.
I had one of those filters on my '80 Formula. Sleeper is right - they do not like carb backfires. Mine burned to a crisp - one of two engine fires in that car - the other one was when I sprayed "wire dryer" on the plug wires to get it started in a rainstorm. Wire dryer
burns quite vigourously when ignited by an errant spark...
Thanks for the advice thunder chicken. I have been very careful about getting sludge in the holes We have been putting shop towels over them while cleaning the sludge. You can actually see that in them in the second picture.
looks good, man! glad you put a real carb on there, instead of the edelbrock !
Looks good:D
When I yanked my 128,000 mile roller 302 two months ago I was surprised to find no sludge under the valve covers. It was real clean.
What kind of oil do you use? Pennzoil usually creates alot of sludge like that.
Well I am assuming this is 23 years of sludge, only 1 previous owner I don't know what he used :hick: . I use Castrol High Mileage Oil. :D
Mine was at the same mileage when we did the HO conversion, and it was real clean under the valve covers as well.
I am gonna clean the sludge and just to be safe b/c of what Thunder Chicken Said I am going to do an oil change as well. :cougarsmily:
We took the valve covers off my friends 390 in his 74 F100. He used Pennzoil up until that moment, he had heard it did that, and once he saw it he freaked. He cleaned it all up and started using Castrol or Mobil 1 I cant remember, but when he tore down the engine to start his rebuild it was still clean. He experienced alot of bubbling while using Pennzoil too, when he pulled the Distributor.
Slap some 1.7 ratio roller rockers on there!
I agree. :D I dont like that style air cleaner, but the rest looks good man.
More Progress!
Everything is In!
I removed the A/C Like I said I was going to :hick: Cleaned up that plate and hacksawed off the part of the plate that held the A/C. A lot of work to just get rid of part of the plate, but it was worth it!
Also, we bought a Throttle Cable to the pedal. Looks just like the Lokar Cable but is from another Brand. Works great!
The Fuel line is hooked up (high pressure pump bypassed) and flows great!
Distributor is hooked up.
All we need to do now is connect a few wires and tighten on the Valve covers.
Should be firing it up tomorrow, everybody cross your fingers! Hahaha :]
Oh, and you know I am going to be posting video once it's running! But for now these pics I just took are going to have to do to hold you over.

Looks really good. PLease don't tell me you're going to plug those mangy ass wires into that nice shiny dizzy though.
A little simple green on those wires and they will be like new!
car is turning over thanks to some advice from 84Fila! :hick:
just gotta get the timing then I am good to go!
Anytime man. I'll help out where I can
nice intake looks good
