Whats the shortest length of rca cables that can be used in these cars? Both lengths down the middle and down the passenger side? I have 17' in there now, down the side, but not sure if getting better 13' ones would work.
Why get shorter ones if I may ask?
There's many "used" (still in package) ones for sale on forums...most of the time 13', but for half or less the retail price. I have a bunch of slack in the trunk also, possibly enough to reach the rear of the trunk but can't check this moment (may have just been the remote lead that was too long).
I think I used 12-footers in mine. They run down the passenger side under the carpet
I've got a few extra sets if you need one. I know I hase atlease one tsunami set and atleast one Soche set. A no name brand too. Let me know man, yours for shipping
Pictures?
I've been using two pairs (need 3 total) of some rca's that came in a wiring kit (scosche I think) and a radioshack gold rca (hard to unplug, potential to damage amp when disconnected) from my home theater for awhile now. Want to go matching on all three, along with something thats actually shielded. Swapping equipment around so now's the time to do it 100% right.
dad is on the road ( truck driver) and he has my cam. You'd have to take my word for it. I'll see if Ifixyawata will let me use his. Just let me know, I have a few extra sets. I have rockford frostgates in now and there is plenty of slack. Not sure of legnth but works great
I got a 50' set for the 96 bird. But then again I had to run it all crazy to get it to the trunk. Theres maybe about 3 foot extra in ther trunk after I ran it.
Umm...? I sure hope you aren't serious.
50 feet sounds like motor home, not car, wow lol.
My cars PO left a big fat pair of RCA's and a big fat power cable as well as a remote wire in my car. Not sure how long they are but theyll reach to the middle of the trunk.
No I am serious. I had to route the thing around all kinds of under the dash. Then along the door sill. Under the rear seat. follow the contour of the outside edge of the trunk and around to the middle of the trunk opening. I trid to hide them the best I could. Thats what took up all the extra wire.
My 88 Cougar I think I used a 12' I ran it straight down the drive shaft tunnel.
25 or 30' wasn't enough? 50' is enough to zigzag in between everything in the car, to end up with only a couple feet left at the trunk. I'm assuming you have no serious noise issues, but I'm sure there's a bunch there. That's a lot of wire to pick up interference and have a lot of voltage drop by the time it hits the trunk. As long as it works and you're happy with the sound (probably still better than stock), thats all that matters ;)
I'm really hoping to replace my JL e6450 with an Eclipse XA4000 or Alpine PDX 4.150 sometime soon. The JL's got like 30% efficiency! Don't need 6 channels anymore either, ditched the rear deck speakers.
I ran my cable under the carpet and console right down the middle. Our car isn't even 17 feet long. Why so much?
Seek, I found an extra set of Rockford Frostgates if you want um
Can get all three of these for $30 shipped: http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb131/audioatg/andrew004.jpg
Strait down the transmission tunnel I think I could have used a 10' cable. I wonder if it would be better to mount the amp under the seat and run longer speaker cables or longer rca with shorter speaker cables..
Cooling means a lot...under anything amps don't get much ventilation (of course, fans help). I can't think of a way to mount an amp thats 18"x11x2.5" any way other than the trunk.
On a related note, have one of the doors cut to accept an elemental designs 7Kv.2 sub and a baffle made now. If I could find my fiberglass, it'd be perfect to strengthen the baffle but don't know where it is. About 5/8" thick, with a sunken area for a flush mount speaker. Should fit under the factory grill just fine.
Why do you want 3 different sets of wire? I used a Tsunami set. Not sure of legnth but I want under dash, down pass side carpet near door, under rear seat into trunk and i have about a foot to move around.
I imagine he is powering his his mid range speakers too...
50' is way too much for any car. I have a 12' ran under the dash, down the driver side threshold plate to the quarter, under the rear seat, and have about 1 & 1/2' to 2' play with it.
Never thought of that. I just used 16 guage speaker wire for all of my stuff....
Yes, JL e6450 powering mids/highs and a couple eclipse XA1000's powering two TC-7 subs.
I'm kinda...well not impressed with the one EU-700/7kv.2 I have installed now. It CAN play down to ~30hz, but the efficiency is really poor. It also doesn't have much output around 100hz and up (supposed to play up to around 220-300 fine, according to people on forums). Thinking about trying a 7" driver now, since it'll have much more surface area than the kappas, but be much more efficient (91db/1watt) than these subs. Guess I could try them in the rear deck, but don't want to give up my 10's.
What kind of box do you have them in? That will affect the sound of them. I had my Rockford P1 10"s in a bandpass box and they sounded like . I built my own and made it a ported/sealed hybrid and they are insanely loud. Then I switched from my Jensen 600 to a Rockford Punch 300.1. There are little things that affect how they sound. Also are they facing rearwards or towards the cabin?
They're 7" speakers...they're in the doors.
Have a couple new Aurum Cantus AC-180F1's coming now for $100 shipped. Lets hope they perform better. Will need to seal off around the speaker though. Perhaps cut a square in the door (has a 6" cutout right now), build a box, and insert/mount it in the hole? If there was room for kicks in these cars, I'd do it, but the parking brake location sucks.

I am running 2 3' RCA cables for my amps. But they are running to the DSP, then I have a 12' Fiber Optic cable running from the DSP to the head unit. I then use the factory wiring for the door speakers. I amd running a 6.5" free air in the door, and a 1" tweet on the dash. Its a matched component set. The I have 2 10's in the trunk. I used to be running 2 speakers in the dash, The 6.5"/1" component set, 2 5x7's in the rear deck, and 4 10's in the trunk, along with 2 1 Farad Capacitors. Head unit is completely passive so I had several amps running everything. I got tired of replacing the alternator, so I sold off a lot of it.
Thats what the new high efficiency full-range amps are for ;)
My poor alternator gets dragged down more from my electric fan than the stereo.
Great deals on 6-packs of rca pairs! (verified in another forum that its 6 retail packages): http://cgi.ebay.com/6-Streetwires-LN260-19-7-RCA-Interconnects-NEW_W0QQitemZ260121662127QQihZ016QQcategoryZ94845QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Mine are older but still good ones. Phoenix Gold Trans balanced RCA's Have 3 18's in my 84. Best investment in sound quality I ever made.
