Title: Mustang Slave CD Player
Post by: Ether947 on May 08, 2007, 06:25:42 PM
Can these (http://"http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-FORD-MUSTANG-GT-COBRA-OEM-SLAVE-CD-PLAYER-4-6-5-0_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38641QQihZ001QQitemZ110096033938QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V") be used as standalone players? Or do they need a master to function? BTW, I'm not buying the one in the auction, it's a little too high IMO. But that model (or something similar) is what I am interested in.

Why not buy an aftermarket unit? I don't want one. I think most of them look gaudy, and are overpriced. And I don't need some crackhead breaking into my car for a $100 stereo.  I just need something that will play discs, and I don't have to worry about taking the face with me everywhere I go.

And if this one won't work are there any other Ford OEM CD Players (single DIN) that I can use?

Also, I remember JCWhitney selling OEM appearing aftermarket stereos a while back. But I can't seem to find it on the website. Anyone have a catalog handy?

I think they get there power from the head unit.  Also they can't drive speakers as there is no built in amplifier.

You could buy a 6 Disc changer that hooks right up to your radio and it can mount in the trunk, glove box or under the seat. You'll have 6 Discs to easily choose from and wont have to do too much to wire it in.

I got my 10 disc changer for a hundred bucks from Wal-mart (actually,my wife bought it for me).Anyway,it's been great for 2 years, has a remote to it,mounts in the trunk.I have mine mounted up under the rear package shelf. You can barely see it when the trunk is open.Out of the way.It plugs into the stereo and is REALLY easy to insatll. The hardest part was fiting into the trunk on my back so I could drill 4 holes for the mounting screws. After that, cake. You can keep your factory stereo, and you can play any CD and any song on any CD from the remote. The discs fit into a cartridge  and slides right into the player. You can mount it flat,or sideways.Check it out.You don't have to splice wires or mess anything up.

I was thinking of ripping one from an explorer at the JY and wiring it to work. Anyone got an idea on that?

No way,get the aftermarket player.then, you don't have to splice wires,or modify the dash,or anything.Just drill a couple of holes in the trunk, run two wires to the front, easy.I installed the dash mounted aftermarket CD player amd my trunk mounted 10 disc player in about an hour and a half.No big deal. Also,I think it's more play for the money with a 10 disc changer.

I had a CD changer before. I didn't really care for it that much. Now if there's a remote flash drive player that would be pretty sweet.

I love my changer.10 discs is a lot of music, all at the touch of a button. No swapping discs in and out of the stereo.I guess I like the convenience and ease of it all.

Antonio a guy I used to work with had a USB Fm broadcaster that plugged into his cigarette lighter.  It had all the play/ pause / track select.  He just plugged his thumb drive in and tuned the radio to a certain channel.  It worked great, being that close to the head unit it sounded really good.

We used to listen to podcasts on it :D

There it is!  He didn't pay that much for his though.. This is what I think I'll get for both the 83 and my TC as i don't want to disturb the factory radio.

That way I can take my Urge Subscription on the road.

I'm still looking for a single DIN CD Player though. :)

Single DIN Ford OEM CD Player.

I apologize for not being specific. :)

Actually upon further investigation on eBay, it looks like MN-12s have them.
