Before I installed the Gillis I was making about 10psi (actually slightly under) with the just the adjustable wastegate actuator. I installed the Gillis on the recommended 6-turns out and I made around +22psi before letting off the throttle. I unscrewed it one more turn, and took a spin and lo and behold it shot to 30psi! WTF!!! It was ridiculous. Almost instantly shot up there. I limped the car home because my Taurus fan died an I called it a day.
Today I found out that my hi-speed was still working so I re-wired my switch. I took the adjustment cap off of the Gillis (it was about a turn and a half away from coming off) to check it for debris. Nothing. I set it back to the 6-turn default and took it for a spin. Sure enough I washiznitting +20psi again. And this time the overboost buzzer was screaming. I am at a loss as to what the problem is.
:toilet:
Anyone?
Flip the valve around and give it a shot.
When i did mine i swore it was the correct direction but i had the same problems.
Fliped the vacuum lines around and wellah all worked as promised.
The instructions are good but can be slightly misleading to us who are blinded by more boost lol.
Thanks dominator, I'll give it a shot!
Your boost "signal" from the compressor housing should be trying to compress the spring...
Did ya get her fixed ether??
Not yet. Haven't had a chance to switch the lines yet. This has been one busy week.
well my 1st gear pull not knowing this POS valve was letting me full boost kills yalls stories.
Once the boost gauge maxed out, the car busted up real bad while blowing off the intercooler.
Fixed. Then my wastegate actuator clip feel off.
making 18psi yet?
also, that overboost buzzer will drive you insane. The sensor is under the EGR selenoid, pop the vacume line off, and cap the one from the EGR selenoid that goes to it.
You can adjust the overboost solenoid...for those OMFG moments when the boost is WAY too high.
Yep. Just got back from the test drive. Runs like a champ! Had to fix a friends car first. It was blocking the driveway. Oh the temptation to go to 20. :)
Now I've got a start-up idle hunt to figure out. It started right around when I kept blowing the intercooler hose off. Going to check my vacuum lines again tomorrow.
In case it's not obvious, how do you adjust it?
Dig the goop out of the top of it and you will find a screw. Turn that to adjust the signal pressure.
It's been a while since I messed with the one on the 84 XR-7, but IIRC it was backwards what you would think to raise the pressure that it activated. I "think" CCW will raise the pressure. If not, there's only one other way to go ;)
Mine didnt do the startup hunting untill i put the BOV on.
It was CW to raise it. 50-50-90. :)
Raising the idle seemed to have fixed it.
