Ever since I installed my aftermarket deck in the TC, I've had a gaping hole where the equalizer was. So, I decided to do something custom. I made these out of plexiglass and etched the logo and lettering with our laser engraver at work. Green LED's in the sides will keep the lighting consistent with stock lighting.
After talking with a few people about this, I decided to do several layers. One of these three will be the top layer, then I am going to make another one, except with flames etched into it and red LED's in the sides, so there will be flames "behind" the Tbird and lettering. I am trying to think of a 3rd layer, but don't want to overdo it. Here are a few teaser pics, I haven't installed them in the car yet.

That's a sweet idea
I like this idea, any plans on making a few and selling them? I'm interested if you do.
I'll have some extras when all is said and done, probably around 4? They'll likely all be different iterations, trying to get it "perfected," or at least as perfect as I want it to be.
Cool!
So let me ask you..what kind of things do you engrave at work with a laser engraver?
Is it kind of like CNC with a laser??
The laser engraver is essentially a printer. You can set the speed, power and DPI to achieve the quality/depth that you want. We engrave our parts/products that we design and sell with serial numbers and whatnot.
Are you doing custom peices for board members now:beatyoass: ;) ?
(brain kicks into overdrive)
If this was slightly smaller so it fit within the plastic console storage area (where the EQ goes for cars that don't have one) it could serve as a very cool door to hold things inside. My radio has a remote that I store in there and it's always popping out when I hit the gas too hard ;) A small, spring-loaded hinge at the top might work very well, I think. I don't know if LED's are possible in that configuration, but maybe thin 1mm LED strips might work...
I'll take mine with "Thunderbird" instead of "Turbo" :D
I'd take mine with "Fila":flame:
Heck, if I got enough people interested, I'd buy a laser engraver of my own and make whatever people wanted.
You do one, I'm intrested
Nice!
An 'Ol Skewl Bird one would be cool.
And maybe some turn markers/hazard covers or something.
i'll take mine with 85 t-bird looks great
I'll take a couple that say "TTDOHC BIRD" :D How big can you make the stuff?? That's down right COOL!!
Well, I think the biggest the engraver can do is like 12"X24."
That size would work :D
John
So... does this mean your taking orders......
I would be interested in one.
I'd want atleast one. One for where the AC goes one for the Lighter/Preimum sound/Power antenna goes. One with gut for guages ( I'd need the names of teh guages cut) the ane lower would be for 2 switches and the Fila logo. I can PS for ya if na need an idea
For the quantities we are talking about now, I can't really use our machine at work, that would take a substantial amount of time. I will look into buying one and get back to you guys regarding prices, leadtimes and whatnot.
If you are able to draft up your own designs and specify sizes, specs and whatnot, this would be much easier for me, and I'd be able to turn them around rather quickly.
You get the machine, I'l be the labrat to see how it goes
I FINALLY bought some nice 3mm LED's and wired this dang thing up, going to install it in the car tonight. Here's a shot with it wired up to my computer, only half of the LED's are lit up. Sorry for the blurry picture.

Looks badass man!!!
Nice work.
Are you going to try to wire it in so it works with the dimmer switch as the rest of the dash does?
If so, how will you go about doing it? Do those LEDs run on 12 volts, or are you running an inverter of some kind?
That's really cool. Wisdh I had access to cool stuff like that.
Its getting wired up and mounted tomorrow. Pics (and drool, mostly mine) to follow soon.
Finally got this bad boy all wired and mounted up. Turned out really darn good IMO, even works with the dimmer switch. Whatcha think??? Oh, and I have a new plan for my gauges, gonna ditch the A-pilla gauge pod. Oh, and I forgot to mention, these pictures were taken during the day with light shining right on the plexiglass, imagine how bright it will be at night, I'll shoot some pics tonight.
