Title: Exhaust done! VIDEO/pics pg10! (WIP vid pg9)
Post by: kingcars on May 05, 2007, 02:43:41 PM
Oh yeah, time for another countdown thread!  Not as significant as the HO conversion, but this is something I've wanted since I first got the car (back before I even knew of an HO conversion):  true dual exhaust straight out the back with some nice stainless tips.  I have my Mustang H-pipe w/cats ($50). extension pipes ($40), lers ($30), shorty headers ($30), and we will be installing all that ourselves next Saturday.  Then we'll be taking it down to a local shop where she'll be getting 2.5in tail pipes done with stainless tips, which will put me back about $150 (yep, I'm splurging a bit here).  So that comes out to $300 for the whole system.  And to keep you hungry wolves at bay, here are a few pics:

I got the headers last April when we first gathered all the HO parts.  When I got them, they both looked like the top one in this pic:

Then I sandblasted them and they looked like the one on the bottom of that pic.  After a quick spray bomb with high-heat paint, they came out like this:

They'll be getting a 2nd coat of paint this week.

And here are the tips I will be getting:

I cant wait to hear the car rumble!!!

The flow tubes will have to be lengthened a bit.The ler shop can do that easily.Good  to hear you're making more progress.I have my exhaust on for the most part.I still need to install the tail pipes and secret exhaust tips.

You mean the extension pipes (from the H-pipe to the ler) will need to be lengthened?  I thought only the tail pipes needed to be longer.

Just the t pipes need to be your set.

From the H to the lers will need lengthened. Our cars have a longer wheelbase.I can't remember how many inches need to be added.I want to say about 6 inches, but can't promise. My Mustang tailpipes don't need to be lengthened.I was lucky to find a set that didn't have the LX tips,or the GT turndowns. These just go straight out the back, and they appear to have been made long in case any mods needed to be made (just a guess). My tips are going to be VERY different, but they are Ford parts (all the info I'm giving). You'll love the difference when you get the true duals on.Does the H-Pipe have cats?If so,are you going to hollow them out?

I'll be getting the 2.5in tail pipes made and installed at a local shop, so I wont have to worry about it  :)

Yes, I got the mustang extension pipes, so they'll need to be lengthened then.  Guess I shouldnt have spent $40 on em.  Oh well, I'll let the shop handle it unless...well...wait a sec.  It wont matter since I'll have the tails custom made unless the lers HAVE to be in a certain spot.

And the Mustang H-pipe DOES have cats and I DO NOT plan on hollowing them out.  I specifically hunted for an H-pipe with cats because NC does have emissions laws and the last thing I need is a fine.

We have no smog testing,so,free to do just about anything.Perhaps your flow tubes will work,I hope so (as they are),but,I'd put $5.00 on it that they'll have to be extended a little.A non issue for any ler shop.Keep us posted on the results.

Well we had planned to install everything up to the tail pipes, drive it to the shop, then have the tails done.  But now I'm not sure what we'll do...maybe drive with just the H-pipe on down there and hope we dont get pulled?  hahaha.  Yeah, I'm sure it wont be a huge deal.  But dammit, I need to get an oil change.  3,000 miles on the HO now.  $25 more to spend.  Ew.

PS - there might be a couple of sound clips on the way next weekend.  (a COUPLE?  Hmmm...what else could be recorded....)

I went to Autozone and bought a handful of clamps (cheap),and test fit everything on my last Bird, clamped it all down, then had the ler shop weld it all together. It only cost me $60.00 for their work since I had most of it done.I'll do the same on this car,all i have to do is have the tails welded on,then the tips.
Title: Exhaust done! VIDEO/pics pg10! (WIP vid pg9)
Post by: kingcars on May 05, 2007, 04:06:32 PM
Yeah, my dad is going to be able to do the welding luckily.  I'm paying $150 for the shop to completely make and install the tail pipes and tips, which is a really good deal since the tips alone are $80.

PS - do you have any recent pics of your car?

I do have pics, but they aren't pretty.I'm doing bodywork, and the body sure shows I've been sanding. The engine is real pretty, though.I polished the explorer upper, the 3G,valve covers, and steering pump bracket...so far.The BBk headers are still shiny as well.I bought my Stang 2 1/2 inch Mandrell bent pipes from a company on E-bay for less than $70.00 shipped.Around here,$150.00 will nearly pay for a complete dual exhaust system from scratch.Have you checked E-bay?Look up Mustang exhaust tailpipes.A lot will come up to see.E-mail me at vinnietbird@sbcglobal.net,and I'll reply with a couple of pics for you.

Really, there's nothing you can do.Just enjoy them.I had a pair on my last Bird, they lasted about 3 years. Now I'm using the Warlock race lers with built in cut-outs.Nice lers, great sound, and by removing 3 wingnuts per side,I can uncork them for the track.

Hope they last a good while on my Tbird since it's my DD!!  Well maybe by then I'll have enough for a really nice set.

flowmasters will rot out, too. stainless is the only way to go if you want them to last forever.

as for the ler location, they wont have a lot of room to move forward or backwards. they basically mount under the rear seat.

comparing my driveshaft to a mustang one was about a 3" difference. to give you an idea on how much longer our cars are.

Stainless lers?  Sheesh.  I thought stainless tips was splurging a bit in luxury...

But yeah, thats what I needed to know about the lers' mounting positions.  Thanks for that info.

Alright, here's the deal.  Tomorrow I'm going to set up an appointment with the local shop to get my exhaust done hopefully early Saturday morning.  Friday night, we'll have the headers and H-pipe in and ready to go.  So hopefully Saturday afternoon, I can give the car a nice wash and maybe head over to a cruise in; the first for the Tbird.  Hopefully there is a cruise in this Sat!

have fun at the cruise in! theyre starting to start up around here!

whats the minimum age for antique/historical plates in your state? here its 25 years old, and the Antique Automobile Club of America has a rolling 25 year old rule. thats when ill bring my cat to shows and cruises, when its 25. though it wouldnt be too far a cry, not discouraging you from going. i see plenty of late 80s grand nationals, montes, and cutlass 442s there too!

Bleh....I'm gonna have to wait till first thing Monday morning.  The guy I've been talkin to is out on Saturday and he wants to do the job himself, so 8am Monday morning is the time now.  And I'm gonna have to do a whole 2.25in system as well, due to the bending of the pipe over the rear axle.

I agree.Just hold the money until you can find a better ler shop. There's plenty of room for 2 1/2 inch pipes, and if you're paying for a new exhaust, you should go ahead and get what you want.Get on E-Bay and grab a set of 2 1/2 Stang tails for it.So what if you have to postpone for a while,at least it'll be done the way you wanted it.I'm sure you've heard me preaching this, but,DON'T GET IN A HURRY.Everybody wants it done NOW,and settles for less right now, instead of waiting for More, later.Patience can really make a good car great.

Definitely take it somewhere else. I ran through 4 shops who all told me my h-pipe wouldn't fit my car until I found a place that could do it. You just need to find the right place for the job.
Title: Exhaust done! VIDEO/pics pg10! (WIP vid pg9)

He told me I'd need mandrel bent piping if I was to do 2.5in.  Not because there isnt enough room, but that when the pipe is bent, it ends up being smaller than 2.25in at that hump.  I'm not THAT worried about it being "only" 2.25in since my H-pipe, extensions, and lers are all 2.25 in anyway.  2.5s would be nice, but they're not going to do much good until the "big overhaul" I have planned down the road.

And I do agree with you vinnie, but there are only 2 shops near me and the other one charges WAY too much.  And like I said, I'm not an extremely picky person.  There was a Mustang sitting outside the shop when I got there that had the 2.25in and it looked exactly how I want mine to look.

Im having 2 1/4 put on mine. Its just a stock 5.0 CFI. I see no need to go 2.5, just that much more money. Until I rebuild the engine, and thats a far cry from now. I just exhaust on so it looks nice and can be driven. I have no money for a rebuild, especially since Im not done with school yet.

Wow, I didnt expect everyone to start flipping out over such a small detail that isn't going to affect much of anything.  Like I said, he told me I'd need to get mandrel bent piping if I was to go 2.5in piping.  And he did specifically say that they don't have that problem with 2.25in.  It's just a local shop, my town isnt big at all, I'm not expecting them to have all top of the line machinery.  I just want the job done right, and the owner (the guy I have been talking to) made it a clear point that he wants to do the job himself.  And if it looks like the exhaust they put on that Stang, I will be one very happy customer.  My dad's 383 runs on 2.25in exhaust, so if it's good enough for the Chevelle, it's good enough for my Tbird.

@Red LX - he said the 2.5in piping would end up being less than 2.25in in the bend, therefore eliminating all use for having the bigger piping.  I'm betting the 2.25 does get a bit smaller, but not as drastically.
Title: Exhaust done! VIDEO/pics pg10! (WIP vid pg9)
Post by: CougarSE on May 09, 2007, 07:45:15 PM
Its not good enough for a 383.

I know every ler shop in my area, around 15 of them and none of them can bend 2.25 without it losing diameter.  There will be some loss with a non mandrel pipe bender even if its only a 20 degree bend.  Your 180's over the axle will have 10 inches of pipe smashed down to +/- 2" and be more oval than round.

Don't try and re invent the wheel son.

Haha well, it would be "ler back"  2.5 (my lers are 2.25).  I'm sure it helps, but I'm not even looking for much more power than I have.  Honestly, even if I dont gain ANY horsepower from the exhaust (which I know wont happen, but thats not the point), I'd still be happy because it runs really strong...it would just sound and look a lot better.  It shoves me in the seat, impresses my friends, and whoops poser imports.  I couldnt ask for more.  And my dad's Chevelle goes like a bat outta hell now, even with the 2.25 system.  The Tbird shoves me in the seat, but the Chevelle snaps my neck.  When my Tbird finally gets to be released from it's DD duties and turns into my nice weather cruiser and show car, then I'll be picky.  For now, I'm just thrilled to have made the progress I have so far.  As a kid (I know...I still am a "kid" to a lot of people here...but I mean like elementary school age) I always, ALWAYS dreamed about having an American V8 car that would sit at stop lights just rumblin away, all badass-like.  I'm just a few days away from living that dream...and a lot sooner than I had imagined.

And what better way to piss off the neighbors then by driving down the street 8am Monday morning with a 5.0 and only headers and an H-pipe hooked up?  :D

But I'm sure the neighbors wouldnt be thrilled....too bad!

Nah, seriously, I dont want it to be obnoxiously loud.  I just want it to rumble and let people know that there might be a little somethin-somethin under the hood.  I'm sure it'll spark some interest as I pull into a cruise in with a bone stock lookin Tbird thats growling like a 5.0 Stang.

last year my original exhaust was rusty at the ler, i just cut it off right before the ler :hick:  sounded nice, but i was very surprised. i expected it to be blasting, really wasnt. i guess the combination of ONE 2.25 inch pipe, cat, and manifolds not headers all made it pretty reasonable. it wasnt as loud as it is now with headers, off road h pipe and dumped flowmasters, its almost obnoxious now!

My brother had an '84 F-150 with a 302 a couple years ago that him and my other brother put longtube headers on and were gonna do exhaust, except that the exhaust didn't fit. So, he ended up driving it with open headers for a few days.

I couldn't believe how quiet it was, I've heard cars will full exhaust and lers that were louder. Didn't sound as great as I figured open longtubes would either...I guess the py low compression didn't help either.

I'm sure you'll love the sound.  I know nothing is more satisfying than going out on a cold morning and hearing my car snap to life.

Seriously though, Longtubes on the new Stangs with any sort of aftermarket lers equals pure shag.  That  4.6 is one of the nicest sounding V8's out there.  I have a Borla catback with Hooker long tube headers on my T/A with no cats.  3" all the way back, and let me tell you, it screams, but just doesn't compare to the 4.6.

Yeah, our neighbor used to drive his 67 Chevelle SS 396 to work every morning (the one in that pic thread I had with the vette side pipes) and I remember always hearing that car in the morning.  My dad used it as his back up alarm too haha.

I'm sure my neighbors will love me Monday morning riding down the block at 8am with open exhaust...maybe I'll cruise in 1st just to be an asshole

Cold morning??  Whats that 70 degree's?  :p

Har Har Har, in my neighborhood this winter we actually had frost warnings and the whole gamut.  It got down to below freezing on a few nights, so it was easily 50 when I had to go to school.

Well, we got to work at around 9:30 this morning.  Right now we have the headers in and the H-pipe semi-bolted up.  We're about to head out to get new O2 sensors and an emissions pipe.  Also, we found a busted U-joint, so we're going to replace those while we're under the car.  Dont worry, I have plenty of pics to share with you all later!  I gotta get back to work!

Nope nope, we have emissions here in NC.  All 4 cats on my H-pipe are functional, all the smog stuff is still on the car.  I'm keeping it 50 state legal.  The last thing a poor ass 18 year old needs is a fine.  It was pretty fun driving it around with just the headers and H pipe on, though.  It's really loud and beefy sounding.  And PERFECT for my planned revenge in the morning :D .

Oh yeah, I know the paint wont matter, but it sure was nice to see them in pristine condition haha.

I think that pop was just from the lers cause she never did that until after the exhaust was done.  And my spark plugs were all clean so I dont think thats an issue.  Could be related to my bog problem, though.  Doesnt bother me cause I NEVER rev the car anyway.  Thats not the best I CAN do, it's the most I WANT to do.  What can I say, I take very good care of it.  I revved her to about 4,000-4,500 in that vid.  That's the first and last time I will, so be happy with it!  :D

"Better" is an ambiguous term based on opinion.  "Louder" might be a bit more appropriate descriptive word since it can be mathematically measured :hick: .  My car has 4 cats, all the smog stuff, etc.  100% the way it would come out of the factory.  If Ford would've had an HO in the Tbird, I'm sure it'd be like mine.  And yeah, I've already had people lookin over at the car with a "Wtf..." look.  It's priceless.

Yeah, I didnt clock my 0-60 time, but when I hit 60 in the video, it's right at 7 seconds.  It's a shame I couldnt manual shift it for a bit better punch.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.  It is really nice to see what I've had envisioned for so long finally coming to life.

Gotta give a big thanks to my dad, who has done as much if not more work into all of this as I have and has definitely been my biggest inspiration.  My Uncle too;  he helped a ton with the HO conversion, he recommended the lers, and has been another source of inspiration.  And the guys at the ler shop for doing a great job on my exhaust; the final piece of my first envisioned "stage" of this car.  I sure as hell cant take all the credit myself haha.

Looks like a very solid exhaust system that should definitely last you until you're ready to upgrade and overhaul.  It's quiet for my taste (though I'm not an open headers kinda guy either).  If thats the sound you like, then great.  I drove my car for 3 weeks on headers, H-pipe and flowtubes, so I can appreciate being able to drive without ears riniging.  I recently got tailpipes for my car and I'll be glad to be able to let it sit & idle without rattling all my change in the ashtray, heh.

well if you want to you can hold 1st longer than normal and that helps. :hick:

seriously i havent done it with a 0-60 test but i know full throttle it shifts to 2nd way too soon! if i hold it in 1st and keep on it when it gets up to like 4000 rpm you REALLY feel the High Output.:D and i dont know for sure but it seems like 1st might take you all the way to like 45 or 50 mph. i know i tested it on a main road right near my house thats got a 40 mph speed limit. i was having a great time flying up in 1st and suddenly i look down, like 45 mph, and counting, shiznit!!!! so i had to back off and go to D. but it still had some left. so im sure taking care of lke 80% of 60 mph all in 1st has to help some! ive gotta try it out sometime with the G-Tech.

@ifix - Yeah, it could be louder, but the more I think about it, I like being able to not have to blast my music or yell at the person next to me.  But on the other hand, it's more than audible at all times.  And it's loud enough to get heads turning as I drive by.  I find it to be a good mix, especially since it still has quite some time to serve as my DD.

@Zonda - You know you can shift into 2nd and hold it there too?  Go into first, get in the gas.  When you're ready to go into 2nd, shift into drive then shift back into 1st, and thats how you hit 2nd.  It's a trick my dad showed me and it works (cougrrr302 also tried this on his car with the column shift and it works).  Then when you're ready for 3rd, just go into Drive.

It's amazing how much more attention my car gets now that people clearly hear it coming down the road.  I just had a guy in an Acura 3.2 CL pick a fight with me.  I was just minding my own business when we revved at me and whizzed by.  I get a few turned heads and stuff too.  None of that EVER happened before.  Amazing what can happen overnight.

Oh trust me, I know what major hp is like.  Driving dad's 400hp Chevelle is pretty humbling.  But for an 18 year old, having a car like that will get me in big trouble.  I turn down most races because I probably cant beat most of the cars out there.  225hp, 0-60 in 7 seconds is probably more than a guy like me should have anyway.  I enjoy the living  out of my car.  I couldnt ask for a better car for around $2500 total.  Clean, quick, solid gas mileage, etc etc.  Just wait till the "big overhaul" in a few years.  I'm feelin a 350-400hp 331 in my future.  :D  But by then it wont be my DD and I'll be older so it wont be too bad.

Just outta curiosity, how much hp does your car have?  0-60 time?  It looks badass in your sig too :D .  Those painted Ponies have really grown on me.

"1988 Thunderbird Sports Coupe 5.0L HO (28mpg)"

im curious to see how much more a free-er flowing exhaust will help you in your already way too high mileage.

i just started calculating my mpg, right around 17-18, which isnt bad considering a beat the snot out of my car all the time.

but still congrats, if your happy with your exhaust thats all tha matters. loudness isnt everything. that exhaust i ordered for my car, i opted for the 50 series instead of the 40's(flowmasters obviosly). i didnt think i'd like having a loud car all the time. for a DD there is such a thing as too loud.

LOL! id be willing to bet he would put down maybe 160 to the wheels. he'll lose alot from the AOD, plus it is SD.

my 93 mustang coupe with a HO mass-air and a T5 put down 196rwhp, through a 2.5" catted magnaflow x-pipe, mac pro dumps, and 3.08 gears. it also had an electric fan, and no front acc., besides the alt and water pump.

For some reason I can't stand glasspacks/cherry bombs, whatever you wanna call 'em.  They sound too raspy and rattly for my taste.  Remind me of a junky truck, ugh.  Probably piss off someone with that statement, but I'll never use glasspacks for anything except a resonator in front of a regular ler.

Fact is, as I've said before, Loud does not equal hp or speed.  Every person has thier own idea of what sounds good on a car.  I like the way my car sounds with the cheap summit race lers. I've heard people tell me it's too quiet (fila-man) and others tell me its too loud (police).  It's a matter of taste.

LMAO yeah, 0-60 in 7 seconds must be only 160hp.  Yeah, right.  I gotta get more credit than that, wow.

I'm 18.  I'm not Mr Moneybags.  Sorry I cant spend $140 on lers, and build myself some amazing Cobra engine.  If you wanna be fair, compare to my dad's Chevelle, not some 18 year old's car.  My car has less than $3000 total put into it, including buying price ($1500).  This is my first car, and it's also my daily driver.  Like tonight, driving home tired as hell at 1am with a headache, it's a nice time to not have a really loud car.  I appreciate constructive criticism, but some people just aren't lookin at the whole picture and are coming across as "high and mighty".  Now for the most part, everyone's being good about it, but some are just comin in here like "Whoa my car pwns yours."  I dont do that to anyone here and I dont expect it in return.  So please, criticize all you want, give me opinions and ideas, but the "high and mighty" bullshiznit has got to go.

LOL! id be willing to bet he would put down maybe 160 to the wheels. he'll lose alot from the AOD, plus it is SD.

my 93 mustang coupe with a HO mass-air and a T5 put down 196rwhp, through a 2.5" catted magnaflow x-pipe, mac pro dumps, and 3.08 gears. it also had an electric fan, and no front acc., besides the alt and water pump.

and IMHO, no lers on a stock 302 sound like shiznit.

No offense, but seriously, just let him enjoy his car. It doesnt matter who prefers what lers, or how much power you're putting down. he is putting more than 160. I put that with my SO 5.0. Leave him alone and let him enjoy his new exhaust. I'll post when mine is done too. I hate glasspacks and honestly those Cherry Bombs sound great. They are lers I know, but the thought of the brand.

Duhhh... my kar iz lowder than urz.

In all honesty, though, dude, the folks on this board are pretty mild.  Over on the Neon boards (daily driver) people shiznit on every car that gets posted on that board.  Instead of saying nice things, they say "change this, change that, and maybe I'll like it."  As if the person posting the pic is only seeking the approval of the other members.  I've only posted pics ONCE on that board and that's when the car was new, with 75 miles on it.  I like to think I have somewhat 'thick skin' when it comes to arrogant comments, but I have to admit, people taking shots at my car gets me fired up.  I see where you're coming from.  Bottom line... do what you want with the car, disregard intarwebz argumentz about horsepower, people always like to argue over things like that because hp number is like, as someone on this board said, an e-pen 15.  Your car is very clean, the HO converson looks 100% grade-a.  Your car is probably what Ford would've built if they dropped the HO into the T-bird back in the 80's... it's really clean & I'm sure you'll keep it that way.

PS - I'll be THRILLED when I get my car up to stock '88 T-bird specs with my pending CFI -> EFI upgrade.

Thanks man.  For the record, you weren't one of those people I was referring too (I'm hoping you took it that way).  And I really dont mind criticism (like a "it's a bit quiet for my tastes, but to each his own"), but arrogance really gets to me.  Those are the kind of people I've been up against my whole life.  Nobody here has really bothered me that way until a few select posts made in this thread.  So before it got worse, I just wanted to try to put it to rest.

Oh one more thing.  Tell me this is 160rwhp moving a 3600lb (maybe more?) car like this:  http://media.putfile.com/incar-82

Whats sad is that most family cars from within recent times could keep up with what we consider to be fast in our cars.

Unless that's a KM/h Canadian speedo, then you're moving at a pretty good clip. (A ton faster than my '85 CFI motor, if that means anything.) RWHP is hard to judge from a video (as is everything), but I'd say you're probably turning more than that.  Sure, an auto tranny does suck up some of the power, but I tell you what, I hate having a stick-shift DD when it comes to bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Does anyone really think the tranny could suck up 65 horses?

its not arrogance, its called a reality check.

if you want to argue it, then take it to a dyno. or better yet, take it to the track and let us know how many bonnevilles you "pwn".

where did you get 65hp from?

Going off of the figure of 225 horses for a stock HO, then the figure of 160 RWHP.  225-160 = 65.  I realize the friction from the rear end, driveshaft & whatnot also contribute to the difference in flywheel and 'to-the-ground' horsepower.  I dunno... just don't want the kid to get discouraged and shiznit.  Hah, I'm only 6 years older... calling him a kid.  Trust me, there's nothing I hate worse than someone over-estimating and bragging HP numbers.  As you said, a dyno is the only proof for such things.  I dunno... ugh.  Shouldn't have gotten involved.

PS - I may very well be talking out my ass.  I've had a few drinks this evening.

you'll lose roughly 20% through the drivetrain with an auto, due to converter slippage. SD 5.0 mustangs were rated at 205 at the flywheel. that's 164RWHP.

Point taken, no hard feelings eh?

160 at the wheels isn't bad, then, kingcars... my car, stock, doesn't even make 100 at the wheels, so be glad.  HP is only numbers.  If you enjoy driving the car, awesome.

dude, that's pretty quick.  Nice.  Grrrr, I want another T-bird so bad.  Sounds good, and if you're shooting with a digi cam instead of just a cheap cam-corder, the mic on that thing can't pick up low frequencies worth .  So I know there is a lot of drop out.

I never said yours was too quite B man. I said my cheaper summit lers were. I LOVE the sound of yours. Mine has a bit lower of a sound ( I'm sure due to the equal legnth headers) but yours happens to sound louder. Then again, thats in a garrage, I don't think I've heard yours outside before

first of all WHY are we talking RWHP anyway? and even if it is "JUST" 160 rwhp, apparently thats pretty good!!! evidently that = 225 crankshaft horsepower which is what we all go for with this HO conversion, and it hauls ASS, even in mine which is FAT compared with practically eveyone elses car here.

she sounds great, goes fast, youve already racked up a couple of honest-to-goodness kills, and with the new exhaust people are already taking notice. just keep on truckin. this'll be a good summer.  *cranks up Slow Ride*

Digital cameras are worthless like that. Hook your comp up to a cheap surround sound, then you can hear what it really sounds like. I have a $40 walmart one, and after hearing it, it changed my mind on a few things.

Comin in here like "I hope you got such and such ler cause thats way too quiet" is pretty asshole-ish to me, along with "LOL there's no way he's makin that hp!".  I know where my car stands.  Am I goin around sayin that I'm gonna go pwn an S2000 or a WRX or somethin?  Hell no, I'd never touch those guys.  I've never made my car out to be more than it is, so I dont know why you seem to think I need a reality check.

And yeah, the digital cam isnt the best at picking up the deep rumble of the car (which is where it makesup for not being loud, imo).  Cranking up my surround and getting the bass to kick in helped a ton.

@Zonda - Yeah I didnt expect to get my exhaust till after the summer was over, so I am thrilled to have it finished and ready to do some nice summer evening cruising.  Slow Ride duh duh duhduh duh duh duh take it eeeeaasyy!

@bhazard - That is pretty sad actually, but cars nowadays have lots more technology and fuel efficiency has come A LONG way.  Back when my car had the SO, my mom's 4cyl 04 Accord could keep right up with me (not to mention get 30mpg+).

20% off of 225 is 180.  A much closer number to what I was figuring for my car.  Every place I go to says the 88 HO had 225 (I also have a '95 cam in mine, which has a slightly better exhaust duration too).

You can read here http://www.allfordmustangs.com/artman/publish/Mustang_Generations.shtml or here http://www.english.ilstu.edu/students/bchall2/mustang/ (click on 1988) and many other places if you'd like confirmation.  Also note that the 93 model only had 205hp (and those were MAF too, not SD), which explains what you were saying earlier about your 93 Stang.

On the pump issue (next on your list :D ) these guys have a good kit http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/

I used the 155 l/hr pump in mine no problem. Kit comes with everything to put the smaller diameter pump in the T-bird's tank.

Everything that has been done on my car has been done by me and my father (it helps to have a voice of experience haha).  In fact, while we were under the car putting the H pipe in on Sunday, we took a look at what we'll need to do to get the tank out.

Tank isn't so bad. Just make sure you don't strip the strap bolts:hick:  Use LOTS and LOTS of PB blaster on them and let it soak in. Even my mostly rust free California car had rusty tank strap bolts.

i put my tank in myself on my lincoln, and im a small boy. a floor jack, some oil, and pb blaster will be your friend! i oiled the filler neck shoved it in the tank and jacked the other side up, oiled the insde edges of the tank cover so it would slide higher, and jacked the  out of it, took me about 30 mins once i figured out what i was doing. helps that it was empty
