I was wondering if the 84 Cougar has a roller block or a flat block?

Didnt they start the roller blocks in 86?

In Birds and Cats the roller block started in '86. Basically if it's SEFI then it's a roller. I've yet to see a factory non-roller SEFI 5.0. On the other hand the 4bbl HO Mustang with a manual trans got a roller block in '85.

My bottom end on my 86' is actualy from an 84', so it was converted to roller. Long story, but I can vouch on that one.
