Ok so i sent out my order to summit today for tune up stuff, and smog eliminator bracket for a 5.0 mustang which im praying fits, im thinking it should. Now i also sent the guy on here 45 for the mac h pipe, so i figured best get my old one out. Someone make my life easier, the nuts are metric or standard, and what size. and any tips on how to get it out. freaking no room under the thing, and im working with a 2 ton jack and 3 ton jack stands.
My Stock unit used 5/8 socket to remove the nuts at the headers, and 9/16 socket for the rest. Why did you get the smog delete kit when you could've just got a shorter belt for less?Just unbolt the two nuts on each side holding the H-Pipe to the headers, remove the smog tube from the pipe, and unbolt the pipe from the flow tubes.Nothing to it.You'll have to have the flow tubes lengthened to fit the H-Pipe,though,as the H-Pipe is too short for your chassis. You may also have to watch the clearance between the pipe and the tranny shifter linkage.
If the linkage hits the pipe just *dimple* the pipe a bit with a ball pean hammer.
If you don't want to run a shorter belt just disconect the smog stuff and leave the pump. It'll just spin and pump air into the engine bay. That's what I did for now. Honestly I can't even hear the thing anyways.
Oh,one more thing, the factory h-pipe also has two metal "hangers" that fit into a plate between the tranny and tranny mount. You'll see them.Sometimes the pipe can be hard to pull from the hanger.Spray some kind of lubricant to help,or,just cut the hangers off.You won't need them anymore.
hangers are rotted off so im gonna have to repair them, flow tubes are going to flia with the h pipe, as they are 2 1/4, which are to small. i had a 5/8 on it and could NOT for the life of me get them to budge! Gonna have to get some pentrant. I didn't buy the smog delate, it was a gift, along with the gaskets plugs and wires. so i figured if im gonna do it ill do it right the first time you know. I think i can get away with no smog pump in RI just the cats. Im not ruining anything just in case.
Most off road pipe don'tse the hangers.Mine didn't have them. What are you going to do for flow tubes and the rest of the exhaust? If you have them done at a ler shop, have them weld in ball and socket s like the factory had. They are the best.
I was planning on seeing what i could do myself. Im custom doing it my own way with stuff i buy. I might look into ball socket but i think im gonna do those big ass industrial clamps, so i can pull it out if i need to. I have 2 1/2 flowmasters, and im gonna buy a length of 2 1/2 to make flowtubes. Then im gonna adapt some fox stang tails to come out right behind the rear tires at an angle. If i can do it, should look very nice. Don't worry no bubble gumming here. Im waiting and buying the parts i need now, i got it running now it comes apart to get fixed the right way the first time!
Also there are usually flage/tubes that go to the back of the heads. There was on my 83'. What I did was unbolt them from the heads and then cut the tubes off. You then take the one on the driver's side and put it on the passenger side and vise versa. they are then totally blocked off.
If you got a torch heat the nuts up red the"ll come right off.
Sometimes, heat to the nuts will help them get off.Sometimes,it's simpler than that.LOL.
lol i have a leaky gas line flames are a big NO NO
If nothing else, cut the pipes as close to the header as you can, then pull the header off from the top and unbolt the s once the headers are off the car.You can spend a little time and some effort,or,a lot of time and effort.
i think you should fix that FIRST, then!
going to look for the lines today, hell no one carries shiznit for my car, now vin your sure thunderbird/cougar fuel lines will work? i need a main and return right at the front. And what kind of tool do i need to remove those weird ass fittings?
They'll swap. You need the fuel line removal tools from any parts store.they are white plastic pieces (5 to a set I believe),they are round with a split in them to get it around the lines. The fuel lines have spring locks in them. The tools are the only way to do it without tearing everything up.trhay don't cost much.A local Autozone may have them on the "len-a-tool" program,so,you won't have to spend anything.I sent my fuel lines to Brian. If you can, compare them to yours and you can see for sure. The lines will have to be from a V-8 car.
the lines are weird the are shoved into rubber ones and use the spring clips under the car. I need to buy more clips for when i replace the fuel filter also. I got 6 gallons of gas today for it too so, all my parts should be in on tuesday, and ill be able to work on the car wednesday. Wish i had a autozone near me, theres NO part stores near me, other then pepeboys which isn't really close
Why put gas in it if your workin on the lines? That just screams gas spill waiting to happen. I had the same thuoght then I did gas lines..... yeah
didn't put it in yet, and its had no power to the pump for about a week so the pressure should be dead, and its not gonna pump it out unless its on so.
NEW PARTS CAME IN!!!

Plugs are gonna go in monday after i undercoat this guys jeep schlongler.
Finding a fuel line, and buying a 120 speedo and parts i need for it for 100 also. Im so happy its coming along so sweet!
undercoat that bad boy too.
yick. im so glad the underside of my car inst that bad.
Oh yeah
do a 3G swap.. it works wonders.
O i know once i get the time and its running driveing right its gonna be done. its ok but bad in some spots. Thats what i get for buying a new york car!
i have a chance to get lines from a crown vic, or grand marquies, anyone knwo if theyd fit?
where is your line leaking from? if its a line underneath the car, only fox body fuel lines will work. there are 2 lines that come off the fuel rail that you can use from a crown vic, but you would have to bend them to get the to fit.
the lines that run from the rubber lines under across the frame to inside the engine compartment.
well, you'll need them from another fox car. i thought maybe you meant these:
they hook to those. They are werid something seems off, because one end is just pushed into the rubber hose, no fittings, no clamps. ill have pics tomorrow cause im a little shaky, seems like someone fed with a bunch of stuff on this car.
Those are the ones I thought you needed as wel.Get on E-bay,find anyone parting out a Mark VII in the parts and accessories ,and ask them to sell you the fuel lines you need.I pulled mine from my T-Bird for Ifixyawata, and it only took about 15 minutes to pull all of the fuel lines from front to back.Easy to pull. Then, you'll have the pieces you need.
i found a guy with one, things rotted like mine are. i need to get them out and have a better look. need to get one of those tools, and my oil, im inching towards the time to start it again. Now i just need to rip the intake off to replace the valve cover gaskets.....
if you cant find a good line, you could make a patch line by cutting the bad part out, double flaring the ends, and using AN fittings.
not sure the rest of the line is worth it
post some pics of what your lines look like.
ill grab them tomorrow, if i have time.

Once i get the car back up in the air to get the h out i can get a full pic but those pics are of the rotted part
okay, those look like what fox mustangs/t-birds/ cougars have. they turn into a soft line when it wraps underneath the frame rail. that line runs all the way to the filter, so its going to be long. when i swapped a 302 into my mustang, i pulled some off another v8 car and zip tied them to my stock lines, until i got home to change them. LOL!
soft lines are ok its the hard lines i need
they are heat crimped on there. you wont find a replacement soft line.
so how the hell do i get the metal lines out?
they are held in with rivets on the brackets. you'll need to cut/ drill/ break them off. they will be very long and you dont want to bend them too much. they way i transported them was the most logical way i could think of.
but how do they come out of the flex lines, do i need the whole thing? will the ones from my turbo coupe, or my dads new cougar work
the whole line needs to be replaced. and i would think only fox v8 cars would have a comparable line.
hell that sucks. Im asking on LoL and looking around then.

anyone trust them? they seem like a good deal but might be cheap junk anyone know?
its 235 shipped so if i get those and the parts from the guys on LoL ill be broke again
Just get stock replacements and spend your money on some good pads.

For the fuel line just buy a roll of tubing and run it in place of the rusted out stock metal line. I know napa has repair tubing for the tubing that connects to the fuel pump nylon(or whatever it is) line then adapt it to the steel tubing with compression fittings or Fuel injection rubber hose and clamps.
Something like this but without the smaller end on the other end

no OEM replacement parts will be used on the car unless 100% nesicary, i intend to spend my money wisely, but upgrade it a little bit.
eh with the way its looking id rather be safe then bubble gum it. i have till october so im gonna do everything the way i want it, the right way, the first time
Dont bother with them rotors. That place obviously doesnt know what theyre talking about if they say the same rotors that fit a Mark VII will fit an VIII as well.
If you get new rotors make sure they are ABS capable with the ABS ring on the back if you want to keep that functionality, which I would highly recommend.
Replacing it with new tubing would be the right way to do it as far as i am concerned the only problem with new tubing is making the ridge on the end for the stock line to clip onto. That is why you get that short piece like above. They do sell a piece that is like 3 feet long with that end they might have longer too, its been awhile since i was looking. You could buy new nylon tubing and run it from front to back too.
i was curious as to that also. I need to find out if my friggen abs works, the rotors are so fed up, im hoping thats why its not going on right now. The brakes are not right on the car, theres "supose" to be a leak in a line, i need to add fluid cause i can't find anything, but the pedal goes right to the floor before it brakes so i don't know.....
first comes motor running right, which once i get oil and fuel lines, is done.
next is brakes.
Thank GOD i have till october.
im done with helping with you guys out. you want our advice and do whatever you "think" is right anyways. you're 15yrs old and think you know the right way to do things, but yet need opinions/advice on how to do it.
im 16, and im taking your advice and doing the whole line, im not fudgeing it, i said the way i want, as meaning im gonna upgrade the brakes and stuff. Trust me, i would have never known that the lines were done that way, and now i know and am looking for the whole section to replace. I value the opinions and facts i learn from you guys.
