Title: Repairing door handle cups....
Post by: vinnietbird on May 02, 2007, 07:04:34 PM
I work on models a lot in my spare time, and have a lot of sheet plastic in different gauges (thickness).I was thinking about trying to restore a set of the door handle cups. The one thing that stands to be figured out is the "grain" in the plastic cup.I have an idea, and I'll post a before and after pic of the work......with help from a fellow member (Oh Fiiiiiila).LOL.

I know those dash repair kits have some different grain "molds" to press into the wet glue, might be a possibility

That's a good idea.I'm on it.If it works,I'll be repairing them for everyone for a nominal fee.

It has to be flexible, like a vinyl material.I have that covered. It's a matter of making sure that I use a good adhesive that is strong and can stand up to some high and low temps, which,I think I also have figured out.Stay tuned for some shots in a couple of days (Friday).I have 4 of the cups now,two tan and two grey. All of them have breaks.I'll repair the grey ones, and we'll see how it goes.My new ones will stay in a safe place if these repairs work as planned.I have a line on a couple more of the cups, which,if I can them, will also disappear into hiding like a mobster in the witness protection program.
