Other than that race I talked about in my other thread, the past 2 days have been completely shiznitty. It actually started earlier this week when my Windows XP started booting EXTREMELY slowly for no reason. I checked for viruses, spyware, used recovery console, and did a system restore. All to no avail. Also, my video card has started artefacting even at stock clockspeeds and cool temperatures. Then my sound card decided to fry also. So there goes $260 of stuff. In order to replace all that stuff, it will take me several paychecks. Not only that, but I got my work schedule mixed up and I was late to work for the first time in the 7 months I have worked there...and my manager is a complete bitch and wrote me up for it. Lets not mention how I've been early EVERY SINGLE day before yesterday. Then when I got home from work, thats when I found out that my sound card died. While trying to fix that, my Windows XP installation finally gave out so I had to reformat. Luckily I had enough space for another partition so I can still access my old files on the other drive, but still. I was up at 1am by the time I got her running again, then I fell asleep in my work clothes and all. I never set my alarm, so I was late to class this morning too. And if I can't make up the speech I missed, I'll fail the class.
I'm not the type of person to vent much, but I'm literally amazed at the amount of bullshiznit I've had snowballing over the last 48 hours. I just hope at least my Tbird doesnt start falling apart at the seams like everything else is.
hey man shiznit happens that you have no control over. shiznit will only get better just don't give in to it, or let it get to you.
I'm the type of person that just brushes stuff off and goes on to the next thing...but I can only take so much. I just dont see any light at the end of the tunnel.
But right now I have a decision to make: go along getting my Tbird's exhaust, or saving up $520 for the computer (I'm upgrading this SOB if I'm gonna get new stuff).
yea i know the feeling, a person can only take so much. as fas as which to do, which do you use more? id do the comp only because i think you prob use it a bit, and the bird is ok for now. And those flows, i have to buy a new one, that one i welded was no good so. Just to inform ya!
I know exactly how you feel.
I had a bad day on Monday.
I was supposed to work 12 hours from 8-8. I had to leave early to work on a project at school that was due on tuesday. I wanted to work on it over the weekend but was working 8-8 both saturday and sunday and had no way of leaving.
On Monday, however, there were three other people working so I was able to leave. I drive to school and on the way I get a flat tire. I took care of that and proceeded on my way. I get in and find a wonderful little note stuck on the door to the lab... "lab closed tonight. NO lab from 5:30 to 10PM".
Frickin-A now I have a project due the next day that I need to finish and I have no way of finishing it since the computer lab is closed. Now most things I can manage to work out but this was a Flash project that I was working on. The only place that I know of that had Flash was that computer lab at school. I then figured I'd try to download a trial version but what do I find...Adobe has no downloads for it all because their new versions are coming out soon.
So I ended up loosing overtime at work, nearly killing a tire and got a bad grade on a project because the frickin lab was closed when it should have been open.
I did accomplish something... went to the bathroom and got a drink of water. Those two things have never cost so much money and frustration.
I use both my Tbird and my PC regularly. It's going to be a tough decision.
@5.0 - Yep, sounds like the luck I've been having. Sometimes things just snowball out of control and it can get rediculous and seriously affect us. I wish you luck.
oh so THATS why "the last 36 hours have been so shiznitty"
so...you're an overclocker like I once was. when i go home this weekend ive got pics on a comp at home of my "hot rod pc".
IVE BEEN THERE. yeah nothin worse than when components start shtting themselves! although one was actually my own fault, i convinved my dad to help me solder a resistor between two pins of a chip on a motherboard to get more voltage at the core so i could bump up the fsb speed. i figured he probably had a more steady hand than i and i didnt know much about soldering! VERY small pins, very close, too close actually. he did great but i think we shorted something, the thing wouldnt boot. $100 down the drain.
lesson learned, and i got an Abit with much more adjustability!
its funny, i probably put about $1100-$1300 into my comp (total spent from scratch) including the ridiculous cooling system, and once dad passed and i got into cars hardcore, i havent touched it. it sits patiently in my basp00get, ready to run at the flick of a couple switches and a push of the actual power button.
i gotta say its easier hopping up a car than a computer! your bird will probably not do what your comp's doing!
i had to reply to this, i doubt theres many people on here besides us that are or have been into this kind of thing. it did make me feel a little alone, even the geekiest of geeks at my hs didnt know what i was doing or why. they were all probably more the software type. seems like most computer geeks are, no one's a hardware hot-rodder! (proably because of all the money you DUMP into it!!!!)
btw you ever seen this place? forums.extremeoverclocking.com. im a member there, have been a few years. VERY helpful, very large, a lot of members that really know what theyre doing.
though that place is an example of what we DONT want this forum to become. when i joined there were far less people, you could speak more freely, more adults there. there are many more members under 16 now, so theyve tightened the rules, etc... and people get into fights sometimes and mods have to ban people a lot. though as a result there are many former newbies that really know their way around this stuff.
good luck, hope your pc cooperates better in the days to come! (oh and as a result of my overclocking i reformatted and installed windows MANY MANY times. i had to call microshaft up once to get a new activation key i used it so many times!)
one last thing re your decision, wait on the exhaust! you said in the race thread your car was pretty audible. it doesnt absolutely NEED a new exhaust. get your comp back in shape, then worry about enhancing the bird's cool-factor. its really already good cuz you burned that honda!
Do you need the PC to do school work or is it primarily entertainment in that you have another PC to use?
If you need the computer, do that. The bird runs and although the exhaust would be sweet, it isn't absolutely required right now.
If the computer is just to have something to "play" on, I'd get the exhaust for the bird.
It's really not that bad.If your car stalled on the side of the road, caught fire, then you found out you had to lose a testicle due to some disease, and you could also never have shag and were confined to a wheelchair with one working hand to operate it,THAT would be bad.A broke computer and car exhaust and a little write up at work really isn't anything big at all. Most people WISH that' was the hard part of their life, even if they were broke. It's not so bad.You deal with what you can, when you can,and move on.There's no need in worrying about what you can't fix.
I like the way Vinnietbird thinks!
Car troubles.. Hey you HAVE a car to have troubles with.
Puter troubles... you HAVE a puter to have troubles with.
Wright up at work.. you HAVE a job to be written up at.
Sounds to me like you’re having a real good life! Just all depends on your perspective.
Is the glass half empty?
Is the glass half full
Or did the engineers just design it wrong?
What kind of power supply is in your computer and what are the voltage readings?
A weak power supply could be killing off your stuff.
Hell im in the shiznit boat with ya now. Girl problems (when aren't the problems) Freaking i can't do 2 major graduation requirements, cause i don't have cant find or never did all the shiznit. just goes to show we all have freaking bad days!
Dont get me wrong, my life is awesome and I'm very happy. But sometimes frustrations can build up, no matter how big or small.
As for my decision, well, my computer is for everything. Entertainment, school, etc. Right now it's running fine, but my sound is messed up and I'm not going to be playing games on a video card that's artefacting. So the stuff I need to fix is for the entertainment side of things. I've been back and forth on this decision all day long, but I have the feeling that my exhaust will be coming first. I have some games on my PS2 I need to beat anyway. Thanks for all the kind words.
@boss - *sigh* women...
woman school and money my probs right now. School, unless i can sort something out tomorrow i could be really F***ED. Women, gah im pretty sure shes not talking to me anytime soon, freaking long distance relationship MISTAKE. and im broke, im only allowed to work part time with my grandfather and he hasn't got a install job in 2 weeks, so i have no work, and no money.
As for my comp i re did it last year cause i accidental shorted out the hardrive and it went BOOM! So i traded my nvidia pci card for a better apg slot ati card, got a 512 stick at 2800, and a bigger hard drive and wireless internet card. I have a brand new 1gb stick of ram, my pos comp can't hold it lol
