Title: I cut an IHI Turbo up...
Post by: P71 on April 26, 2007, 01:28:12 PM
I had to do a little project for school and I always wanted to cut one of these thing up, so I did :D . It's the IHI resposible for grenading Layla's original motor so I decided it was time for just revenge. I used about a dozen Dremel cut-off wheels and grinding drums, took about 6 hours start to finish. I painted inside the compressor blue and inside the turbine red. Yes it still spins (you can hear piston chunks inside the center housing :hick: ). I think it turned out pretty cool. Now I have a desk toy I can use to explain how these things work!

You cut that with a dremel?

Wow, you have more patience than I do.

It's a REAL Dremel :hick:

Dremel brand, plugs into the wall, adjustable speed (15K RPM's :D ). It will hog out an E6 in about 20 minutes on 1 grind stone. It's a pretty bad @$$ little tool. A pneumatic cut-off wheel would have worked better but I don't have a compressor (If you can believe it).

Yep Real Dermel's are the shiznit. I cut out all sorts of stuff with mine . Same as yours plugs into the wall and will go to 15K. Like butter it all I can say.

I have a "real" dremel, and if I cut anything more than sheetmetal with it I quickly lose my patience. You go through about 5 of those cutting wheels just making small cuts in 20 gauge sheetmetal.

I let my electric die grinder handle that big stuff.

Screw that cut off wheel. I dont have patience like that. I got pissed off at a truck I had to mask off for paint, there was water under a part of the tape and I had to take up that section. I got so mad I kicked in the windshield on my junk S10. Patience I tell you! is defenitly a virtue.
