Can an V6 SN95 T-5 (or T45, or whatever SN95 V6's use) be used on a 5.0? People around here want all the money in the world for Fox 5.0 T-5's but SN95 V6 cars are easier to come by cheap (a few hundred dollars will buy a V6 Mustang with blown head gasket). I seem to remember the SN95 uses a deeper bell housing and longer input shaft, but as long as it would bolt up to a 5.0 and work with the flywheel and starter I could live with the shifter being an inch or two closer to me...
I really think I have heard on the Cobra Web site that the V6 T5 does not have the same internals as the V8.. and it won't handel it... I'll see if I can find anything on that.
I can't find a thing on it.
I may have been talking out my:shakeass:
Talk to CougarSE, that's what he put behind his 3.8 Cougar. He probably has some good info on it.
I remember Claude's thread and what he had to do to make a 3.8 tranny work on his 3.8, but I'm wondering about 3.8 tranny on 5.0...
yes it will work. the starter will also work on a 302/351w.
Going by this chart (http://"http://www.corral.net/20anngt/trans.htm") that Ether947 supplied in this thread (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=13587&page=3") about the 6.14 gears
There ARE differances in T5 trannys. Torque Capacity of a 83.5-84 is 265 lbs-ft while Capacity of a 93-95 Cobra T5 is 310 lbs-ft.
Unfortunatly for the 2.3 T5's it list ?? for Torque Capacity.
The torque rating for a 2.3T T-5 is lower than the V8 T-5.
Carm...it can be done. You need a truck flywheel, truck starter, and truck clutch. Reason being, the 3.8L uses an 11" clutch, and 164T flywheel. The truck 5.0 uses the proper 50oz 164 tooth flywheel, and the same diameter clutch. You also have to use the truck starter, because of the offset of the ring gear.
Also, he SN95 tranny has a hardened steel bearing retainer as a plus.
Excellent [/Mr Burns]
Glad to be of service. Claude and I both were doing big time research on this swap, to find out the SC guys use the truck flywheel, starter and clutch when they put a 5.0 in an SC with the M5R2.
if it hasnt been mentioned yet i belive the T45s have an integrated bellhousing with the modular bellhousing. i realy dont know how they are different otherwise from a T5.
Yeah Shawn said it. On the clutch though you can use a Super Coupe or V6 mustang clutch too. There is a large after market for V6 Mustang clutches that are inexpensive.
Oh and internally the V6 Mustang Transmission is the same as the 87-90 V8 Transmission.
Without the extra 3/4 of an inch I would not be able to get my shifter out. I did the conversion 100% how it would of been factory too. I got the stamped piece that Ford put on the transmission tunnel and installed it in my car. There are dimples on the tunnel for you to align the piece. So with my shifter hole being where its supposed to be and the transmission putting the shifter up in the same spot as a V8 I can just fit a socket and extension down the opening in the front to get to the front shifter bolts. Move the shifter 3/4 of an inch forward and I would be using a box wrench.
<----- Would really like an SN-95 V6 T5....
