Title: Turbo Coupe Woes
Post by: crystal on April 24, 2007, 08:39:10 PM
Hey Guys,

Just got my 88 tc back on the road after it sat for 1.5 years.

So far I've done fluids and a tune up (including all new gas). Basically what's happening is if you drive it around for a bit it slowly starts to bog down to where you can't rev above 2500 rpm in any gear and the check engine light will come on then shut off (getting the codes tomorrow). When it does this if you put the car in neutral, shut it off and restart it, the problem goes away and it runs great for another 5-10 minutes.

Any idea what may be causing this?

Not sure. Do the reset somputer tick? I think it's something like take the neg batery terminal off for 30 min's then it resets it. Or something of the like. Since when you turn it off, then back on it's ok. Just a purly random guess though. Or even as simple as the fuel filter?

fuel pump, once it dies and you fire it back up sounds like it will build pressure and sustain it long enough to get you going then it can't.

Run the fuel system diagnostics first and pull the codes.

I noticed last night that the car was not building any boost. Well, I went poking around and found the gillis valve I forgot about in there (only drove the car 3 months before parking it for about 18). Switched back over to the stock bcs and it runs pretty  good again. Now to figure out the rough idle...

Its the fuel pump. Same problem when I got mine out of storage, minus the fact it had sat 14 years. Fuel pump will hold pressure for so long until giving up. I had and inch worth of sediment on the bottom of my tank, but the fuel pump was shot.
