Wow, you don't ship much do you? A taillight is considered single oversize when placed in a properly sized box. You know, one big enough to ensure that it arrives in 1 piece and not a billion pieces. Tack on the extra charges for tracking #'s, insurance, and wanting it ASAP (2-3 day select) plus the bogus fuel charges and taxes and you're at $45 in a hurry. The set of taillights I shipped last week cost $57 to ship DHL, about $6 cheaper then FedEx and $17 cheaper then UPS.

I just don't like people who think they need to rape other people on shipping. And I know I could pack a tail light and ship it for $20 and make sure it doesn't get broken. I ship stuff all the time.

May 19th isn't ASAP, it's Ground. Which was $23-$29 dollars by those 3 shippers with insurance. So $65 shipped if you want it by next month.

The same package that Aerobird Motorsports is telling you will cost $23-$29, can be shipped by FedEx for $13.68 ground, that means you'll have it in four days. And that price quote is to ship it from his zip code to yours, so I have no idea what he's quoting......

He just gouges everyone on this message board by custom-making obsolete parts then charging too much for 'em.  Gosh!

I don't have a problem with someone custom making parts that are no longer available and charging for them. As for gouging them on the price, you can only charge what the market will bear. Do I think $40 for a busted taillight is expensive, Yes. Would I pay it if I needed it, Yes, I guess I would, if I had too. I thought it was the price of the shipping that was being debated. I think Mike at Areobird Motorsports assumed that 88Turbo wanted it asap and was quoted prices for faster shipping, at least I think that's what the problem is, besides the fact that he'd be paying $40 for a busted taillight which I don't think he wants to do. If I had seen 88Turbo's posting a week ago, I could have sent him a pair of nice taillights for a turbo coupe but I told someone that I would hold them for him to get back from his honeymoon. I sell parts on the turboford site and on this site, but I give away as much as I sell. As a matter of fact, I have a 5.0 radiator overflow bottle for a thunderbird that Areobird Motorsports is looking for, all boxed up ready to ship to him, and I've never done any business with him. I told him the bottle was free, but after reading this thread, I'm gonna have to charge him at least $200 for special handling and shipping...........LOL

I think you're probably right about the faster shipping.  I just hate it when people come down on seller's for charging too much for shipping, but they'd be even MORE pissed if thier merchandise came to them in pieces.  I know it was upwards of $80 to send a pair of taillights to a guy up in Canada using USPS.  I dunno... I guess if you don't want it that bad you won't pay the price for it.  I think Micheal seems like a guy who pays attention to detail and probably would do everythign in his power to ensure the piece arrived just that, one piece.  Oh well, though.  Ease up on ABM and let's all be a happy ****in' family.

First, How the hell do you type so fast......It took me about 30 min. to type that post, and I hate to type. Second, I hate shipping stuff more then I hate typing. The last thing I want is to have someone e-mail me saying that their stuff is all busted up, I make sure what I send arrives in one piece. I don't do it myself, but if I was buying something from someone and they said that they were gonna charge me more then the shipping costs just to wrap it up, I could understand it. Mike at Areobird Motorsports is in business to make money, he has to pay attention to details or he won't be in business long. I haven't said anything to ease up on him about. If he can make money selling parts on line, good luck to him, It's too much work for me........

$40 for a cracked tailligt, not a busted one. I'll take a pic for you. If I didn't tell you it was cracked, you wouldn't notice it. When I charge for nice taillights, they are NICE taillights. When I ship a box it has enough packing in it to not break (unless a UPS truck runs the  thing over). He said he needed a cracked taillight ASAP. That tells me he wanted a taillight that wouldn't get him pulled over, within a week, which is what I quoted him for. If he said I'll take a busted to  one by next month, then I'd a said pay the $14 Ground 2 week shipping and it's yours because a busted taillight is better then no taillight. Then someone tried to call me out on shipping, which I promptly proved them wrong on. Yeah, so this is my job. Making a little profit on the used stuff is what allows me to have the money to design and make the NEW stuff. I've been doing this for 3 years now and it takes a lot of work.

Your light assembly and skirts are on the way.The light assembly was $22.00 shipping with insurance. The skirts were about $42.00 shipping. So,you got the side skirts and light assembly for $106.00 plus shipping. Not a bad deal altogether.I hope that helps.

You do realize that it's that kind of attitude that is largely responsible for these cars having no aftermarket support, no restoration parts available, and many people (and junk yards) sending them to the crusher without even trying to sell parts off them, right?

You talk of wanting to help "Friends" - well, what about the friend selling the part? Ever think he might need the money just as badly as you're trying to save it? Or does helping people out only count when you're buying?

Mustang guys spend crazy money on their cars. Camaro guys spend crazy money on their cars. Import guys spend crazy money on their cars. Hell, even J-body guys spend crazy money on their cars. But Thunderbird and Cougar owners want to be charity cases. When a guy tries to make a little money on these cars he's ridiculed.

I dunno what you'll do as these cars get older and parts become harder to find, because with people expecting to pay $15 for a tail light that they're supposedly "desperate" for, the parts will definitely get harder to find...

Mike, I've said it before - you've either got a lot of patience, absolutely no sense, or a bit of both, to attempt to market resto and upgrade parts to this crowd - it speaks volumes for your dedication to the cars.

I recently needed the dash lens (which is fairly bulky) for my 85 Tbird's electronic dash.  A Ford dealer out east had a brand new one for $30 and shipped it to me for $5 and it arrived in perfect condition.

Oh well, let's put all our angry feelings aside and agree to disagree.

Look.  With these cars becoming more rare every day, ABM is attempting to get parts to us that normally would not be available.
Thunder Chicken is completely right.  If you disagree with something There is an appropriate forum.  And just remember, ABM came TO YOU offering what you needed.  If you didnt like his price, all you had to type was "Thanks, but I was looking for something a bit cheaper"  and moved along.  So you dont like his shipping prices.  So be it.  Oh well.  I would rather pay Mike to ship me something than have it half-assed boxed and destroyed by the shipping companies.  I trust Mike because he is like me......an Enthusiast.  He cares, therfore I have trust.  Therefore, I will pay for doing it the correct way.

Not intended to flame anyone else, I'm sure you pack things for shipping just fine.

That being said, I vote for lock, since this thread's purpose has been served. 88Turbo has his taillight.
