Well, i'm sitting with the baby in the living room and I notice something in th kitchen out of the corner of my eye.
**TERMITE SWARM**
Yup, 2 1/2 years in the house, no signs of them before. Had the house inspected when I moved in. Nothing Every 3 months I have the exterminator spray outside for ants. He checks for termites every time too. The wife had to come home from work to gimme a hand and get the baby out of the house.
! Those things suck. Gonna fumigate?
Sorry to hear, i really dont know what else to say.
I know how you feel. I have swarms every couple of years and have to have it retreated. An exterminator friend told me due to EPA regulations, the chemicals they can use break down every couple of years, as compared to what they used years ago, only requireing one treatment. I am currently remodeling and coming accross damage. It really does suck.
See, living in eastern Canada doesn't TOTALLY suck - we don't have termites :D
I feel your pain! When I lived near Seattle we had carpenter ants. They ate one wall so completely that all that was left was a potato chip thin coat of paint. I didn't even know about the wall till the day before we were moving out and I accedentally poked my thumb through it... Talk about stress!
Anyway, the 3 years we lived there I had the house sprayed every month but the damage had already been done.
bummer. no termites here, just tons of hornets nests.
KILL THEM !!!!! Hire a hit man.Hey Orken !!!
grab the vacuum :hick:
Yeah, I vacuumed scrubbed and windexed for hours....The exterminator came by and we set up a date to throw down the chemical treatment. $1325 plus tax. WOW....
Property value just took quite a dump.
I'm sure he appreciates the emotional boost, stuntman.
That sucks, though...we normally just get a ton of lady bugs in early spring and thats it. We've already had a few large bees get in the house though, which has me a bit worried....that rarely happens.
Thanks to the Great Chicago Fire all houses in the city have to be built out of brick so no termites. We don't have any however. Atleast you don't have to deal with millions of these this summer:hick:

Not nessesarily. There's nothing that says you have to disclose that you ever had an insect problem. The reason I know that is because that was a big worry for me when I sold my last house. Thankfully there was NO paper in the mountain of forms I had to sign or initial where I had to certify that to the best of my knowlege my house was "bug" free.
It sounds shiznitty but if the buyers dont discover anything in thier inspection I wouldn't mention it.
Every property transaction within NYS has some type of inspection. I had one done before I went to contract. There is minimal damage right now, They just recently found a way in. The main colony is not even on my property. The chemical being used will be brought back to the colony and shared with all members. Ths chemical causes the termite to not moult; or shed it's skin. In doing so they eventually die. Average time for colony extinction: roughly 6 months.
As far as property value, I'm not worried. The house is already worth enough that if I had to buy it at Today's market value, I would not be able to. The average home price in my immediate area has gone up over 100K since September of 2004.
Oh and we get those Cicadas too!
Paul-
I had the same issue last spring. I was sitting in my living room not long after the ex moved out and I "heard" something behind me.
I started looking arond the big window in the living room and poked my finger through the inside sill...it was swarming w/ termites. Terminix was there shortly thereafter with the same treatment you got. Too bad I didn't get to hear the little suckers *pop*.
After doing some digging around, there was some old damage in about the same location in the basp00get, but until that instance, I had never seen any. Nothing was ever mentioned to me either about the previous problems.
I still need to fix the sill and the wall just below it (plaster pulled off when I yanked the infested wood out of there)...just one more thing on the list to do.
that sucks, thats pricey. I hate those Cicadas, sometimes they are around up here. O and wheres your supercharger?
On Saleen's loading dock waiting for the heat exchanger!
O i bet thats adds to your level or agrivation!
That's the same type stuff they used to get rid of my carpenter ants. They drilled holes in my siding and injected it inside for the first application and then I had the house treated every month the rest of the time I lived there. It worked great because I never saw another carpenter ant near the house even during the "swarming" season.
Unfortunately, I dont think the prior owners of the house ever had it treated so in my case there was plenty of damage I never knew about.
Good luck!
