The one in my garage. It's the only one that influences me, and it's certainly the most important to me :hick:

As for other cars, I'd have to say Hawk's car is pretty high up there. What he did to a wrecked Thunderbird is amazing. 5.8FastCat's Cougar project is pretty amazing too...

I agree with both of you.  Also, CougarSE, and 1WLDBRD tops up there for doing things that I really would like to get done on my car.

Just about any of 'em that are done up nicely and/or fast...
I see their cars, and think ", I want mine to turn heads, corners, AND some good times someday.."

There are a LOT of cars on here that influence me..

Glenn Hawkins' car, definitely, on the Thunderbird side. Amazing machine, everything done just right, letting the coloUr speak for itself. It has an amazing presence on the Internet. And that says something! That's how to do up a car the right way. Possibly the best stance of any Fox car I've ever seen.

I think Gary S.'s Turbo Coupe, with all the chrome under the hood, is also stunning. Killer to see in person.

Andrew Beedle's Thunderbird...resurrected twice, always done right, again a stunning color combination, and has the power to boot. That's a car I'd really like to see in person.

TurboCoupe50...Tom is a maverick, somehow balancing between the die-hard TC NATO board and us, and finding peace and respect in both places. The first person I met that did the 5.0 swap into a TC, keeping everything working like factory. Amazing. The car is built to be driven, and he sure does that (street AND strip). Tom's extensive old-school knowledge keeps everyone here on their toes. The proof is in the car.

For Cats, I have to agree with 5.8FastCat. I've been communicating with Greg for many years. His "original" Cougar was the first Cat I'd seen with that much attention to detail everywhere you look. Done right, the first time, and with class. Every succeeding Cat gets better too. And faster!

Also, Rob's 1985 Cougar (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/photos/index.php?ID=104")...there's a man after my own heart on the customization side. Always thinks outside the box. Amazing.

I've enjoyed watching Derik's '85 (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/photos/index.php?ID=114") go from plain-Jane to stunning over the years. Every year, something new, and tastefully done. That's what I like to see. When you have a car whose color cannot be accurately photographed, you know you really have something special. ;)

Billyf17...man, how I love that coloUr combination. I expect progress from you, young man!!! I see many good things on the horizon for ya.

Will's 1987 XR7/GST...every year, another few grand thrown into a 300,000+ mile car. ;) I hope I'm not jinxing Will by saying that most of that Cat's 9 lives have been used up! But for as many times as that car's been damaged--mostly not his fault--he has never given into the dark side to get rid of it. It's been a struggle but he keeps on keeping on. A lesson in resilience, for both the owner and the car! That's how far the love for these vehicles can go. Plus it's all black and evil-looking and stuff. Despite all this, "Short Round" still needs blocks to reach the pedals. :flip:

Nick's 1987 XR7. The ultimate in stealth. Well, at least for the cawh...the owner, meh, not so subtle. ;) Nick did so much work to it, with a really solid drivetrain, and all I need to say is, it's "GOT BOOST".

Ed's 1987 XR7. Love the coloUr, love the mods, love the stance, love the wheels, love the exhaust, love the blower whine. 'Nuff said.

Karl...sheesh, what else is there to say. Between BEFORE (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/photos/index.php?ID=245") and AFTER (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/photos/index.php?ID=105"), I have no idea how he sleeps! One stock, one custom, both exquisite, a one-two punch that pounds you upside your head. And that's just TWO cars from his collection. Particularly AFTER, which breaks new ground for customization with painstaking attention to detail.

Ric's 1985 (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/photos/index.php?ID=58") has an incredible story, has been meticulously maintained for 20+ years, by the original owner, and has never shown any signs of wear. It's almost too subtle and I think it gets overlooked too many times, but it's a tribute to the love you can have for these cars from delivery date to present day, and never lose anything in the process. In fact, Ric is possibly the most passionate Cat owner here.

I know what's in store for Alex's convertible...some has been published here, some not. If it all goes according to plan, that's going to really turn some heads and make everyone re-think their ideas about these cars.

There are others...but those are the cars (and more importantly, the PEOPLE) that keep inspiring me.

Hawk's TC for sure. Just the way that car presents 100% stock styling and looks soooo modern doing it.

Joe's TC "JR" from NATO, the paint is awesome and the little custom things he's done to that car just surpass everything else. Like powdercoating all of the trim black.

Bob's old TC and Frank's 83, Bob's went 13.0's on mostly stock stuff and was a terror to behold. Now most of it is in Frank's 83 which just epitimizes how cool 4-eyes are.

5.8FastCat has me drooling on the keyboard...

Eric's Vert, for how it's NOT afraid of subtle body mods, and presents them in a thouroughly modern way.

And a ton of other cars here in the club. The blown Anny Cat that goes 11's, the clean WHite Sport with the HO conversion, the Brown TBird on Rodlights with the oh-so-right stance. The silver TBird with the front wheels WAY up in the air on drag launch's. Sleeper's Darth Vader Bird. Baxo's Black Cougar XR7. There's just sooo many!

Honestly, when I look at pictures of Layla when I first got her, I suprise myself. I put way to much into that car, but the sense of acclompishment feels good.

If I'm 100% honest though, there is ONE car. Just ONE fox bird/cat that steels my heart, rushe my blood, and makes me want to keep these cars forever. I have NO idea whose car it is, and only an inkling of the story behind it, and only 1 picture. Here it is...

For Thunderbirds:
Andrew Beedle's  (I love twin turbo's and aspire to make my bird, one day soon)

The Hawk; gorgeous car definatley want to see it in person.
And
Dominator's;  nice subtle, and powerful, intrested in seeing that one in person soon too.

for Cougars:
5.8Lfastcat definatly is the top choice here, no words can sum up that car, also it now has twin's LOL. :hick:

Eric's: I'm not a fan of convertible anythings but I would definatly love to own that car, amazing Cat and cool guy.
and
Weasles, that thing has the perfect stance for an '87 Cat.  Dont like the blacked out engine bay, but that can be overlooked.
Hopefully my '85 Cougar can top somebodies list when it is done

Keep up the great work guys!

I believe that bird was for sale at an estate auction for $35,000 or something like that, has a complete griggs racing suspension, and totally built and supercharged 5.0L, plus a LOT more, if Im not mistaking.

yea it was on ebay a looong time ago the guy building it died, it was full race, not street legal said it was capable of 200mph
Title: Whats the most influential Fox Tbird/cougar
Post by: P71 on April 17, 2007, 02:36:28 PM
I actually bid on the car. Here is the history as I remember it:

It's an 87TC, the guy bought it brand new. He decided to road race with it and had a moster Chromemoly cage welded in (why it's windshieldless), subframe connectors, tubular K-member, the works. He threw every Grigg's piece he could into it. It has monster 4-wheel discs with 6-piston calipers, adjustable shocks, the whole gamut. Anyways, they dropped a Vortech'd 331 or 347 into it and before it was done the guy up and died. It was sold as still 100% street legal and the interior was just cherry. You actually had to look hard to see the cage. The pure engineering that went into that car is mind-numbing. I never saw it again after the auction...

huh when i saw the auction they showed there was no dash, and it had racing seats and that was it?
pretty sure it was a 331, i was infatuated with that car, i knew it was waaaay to much car for me, and i never would ever get it, but man i wanted that sucker!
I forgot i like aeros car too, hes got a pretty shagy motor!

It had the door panels, rear panels, carpet, racing buckets with matching material/color, etc. The dashpad was stock (and cut for the tubes) and the dash face was aluminum with racing gauges/switches in it. It had a T56 too IIRC. Man, it's been a long time since I thought about that car.

And thanks daboss, you'll like it even better when it's done ;)

The Hawk has been a huge influence for me, because his suspension works serves its purpose. He open tracks the car, and built it to run hard. He was able to build the car up to corner, haul ass, and look  good.

Ed has also been a huge influence. Ever since i hopped on the forums, i was infactuated with his car. I love the blue/silver combo, on the waffle stars. I love that he makes some  good power, and it doesnt make the power in the straight line, itll make and hold the power turning. He took me for a ride at CatJam, and i was impressed. Ive ridden in a few heavily modded f-bodies, but his car felt so balanced. Its a feeling i strive for out of my cars.

TurboCoupe50 has influenced my next project. His car looks 100% stock. Even when you open the hood to see a 5.0. He did such a good job installing the 5.0, that you dont even think it came with anything else. The entire car is clean, 110% functional, runs very quick 1/4 mile times, while being very reliable and solid.

Erics car influences me, not by giving me ideas, but by making me think "if he can make this and that...i can too". His car gives me inspiration to think outside of the off-the-shelf setups, and to not mimmick other peoples cars. While we are limited to many parts and ideas, his car is rolling proof that we can do nearly whatever we want.

Chuck W. His car, much like the Hawks, is 100% purpose built, and a gorgeous car. His car as a whole is a huge inspiratiofrom the clean cage install, to the suspension work, the paint and body work, the wheels and tires...i cant single one thing out about the car. Not only is his car inspirational, his knowledge and information is vast. He can tell you about almost anything that deals with these cars...unless its a V8.

Meh.

anyone on here that has done body-kits or particularly interesting modifications normally delegated to old hot-rods, i look up to. i laughed out loud when i saw eric's pics of his 86 on his site. the paint job, the extensive body kit, and the SIDE PIPES just astonished me. i couldnt believe there were actually people (because it turned out he wasnt the only one doing this) that liked these cars particularly, and enough to do all the visual hop-ups every one else with a stang or camaro or popular muscle car has done. it seemed weird to me, because to me my dad's car did seem sort of like a "grampa car" and i was surprised at how good it could look with that stuff done to it.

btw i never have gotten the story straight on Karl's car "After". whats up with the headlights? I thought I read somewhere that they are BMW headlights? no? what are they from then? they completely change the front end around. for me its very striking because i like round headlights better, which is a big reason i dont care for cars late 70s and after usually, because of the changeover to sqaure lights.

its incredibly stupid to wish time away but I have to say i really cant wait until these cars are as old as the 50s and 60s era cars that are so popular today, to see what people think of them then and what their reactions to cars that some of our members here have.

also i REALLY would like to go to CatJam this year. I would love to see these things in person. i havent even suggested it to mom yet. she'll flip out i KNOW it. 7 hour drive...need to get a hotel room etc. *sigh* who knows maybe ill get lucky but i really want to meet the wonderful people behind the cars. talking with them online is sure great but in the end its just text. :(

Christ, after reading through this thread I feel guilty for forgetting about all the others.

There are just so many different takes on what people think these cars should be, from Chuck's 5.0 car converted to a TC all the way to Tom's TC converted to a 5.0 car, and everything in between. Sorry for forgetting names, and on a dialup connection I'm not about to go looking for 'em, but there are just so many. There's that TC with the Cobra IRS, Chuck's SHO swap (and Aussie inline 6 swap), Nate's T56 swap (I remember when that car was my car's twin), the partially gold Bird that was gonna get the 32V swap but the owner bailed and bought a Mustang (You know who you are :hick:), Weasle's car, Carl's cars, the under-200-mile TC, the Kenne Bell 20th Cougar, Ed's Cougar (Does Ed still post here?), Sleeper's big-block-turned-turbo-4 TC, and of course Eric's and Baxo's convertibles...

So many different visions, all with spectacular results. But I still maintain that my lowly, mostly-stock-but-making-progress 88 5.0 base Bird is the single most important car on the planet. At least to me it is...

That's the point Carm ;) Maybe we should do a "before and after" thread of our own cars. Show your car when you first got it, how tore up you had to go through to fix the rust, and then a now shot (except like me your now shot is probably missing parts :hick: ). If I ever posted pics of Layla as the 3-color wonder bomb with no trim, no interior, exhaust dragging, etc, I think people would flip!

If I ever posted pics of Layla as the 3-color wonder bomb with no trim, no interior, exhaust dragging, etc, I think people would flip!

Lesse now, the T-Bird is sitting on jack stands and has got a partly blue interior (still didn't do the carpet, headliner, dash or doors, so they're still red), no hood, no wheels, no lights, no quarter windows, no brakes (still waiting for the Cobra M/C), the entire left side of the car is in primer, as are the TC header panel and right fender, no rear bumper cover, the front bumper cover looks a mess with most of the paint sanded off...

Yeah, it's a mess right now. I haven't worked on it in a few days (been sick, cold damp garage would likely give me pneumonia), but it's getting there. Still, when I think back to when the car looked like this (this is literally a "Before", as in "Before I bought it"):

...I get filled with hope that it'll look better when it's finished, yet at the same time, I get sad that I ever started to begin with. I mean, the TC header panel, hood, wheels, etc will be an improvement, and those eleventy-billion dings and nicks all over it had to be fixed, and that white paint was getting in really bad shape, but still...

Y'all don't even wanna see how tore up my piece of..I mean my Tbird is right now....interior is all in pieces, fire damage to the underside, soot all over the pass. side, mis-aligned hood, header, and bumper (mostly) not my fault...but thanks to some help from a few members here, it's all gonna be good VERY soon, and it'll roll with HO power.

On a completely unrelated note, the car doesn't run yet, but I made good and  sure I got a good horn button on ebay last week! :hick:

Just about when I'm ready to post here, and tell you guys to bring a truck and trailer, and about a grand of cash for my 3 cars worth' of Tbird , I look at some of the really nice Birds and Cats here, and make a new promise to myself that it WILL run again this summer, or else...

There are so many awesome cars on this forum that I couldn't pick just one. Actually I could, my '88. Despite all the problems I've had with it, it is my baby and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

As far as a before and after... she pretty much looks the same on the outside from when I bought her 6 years ago. Only major change are new lights and I refinished the wheels.
All the work has been under the hood :D
It used to look horrible, wish I had a better pic than this.

Yea I guess I have this 5.0TC fetish...

For Cougs It has to be Erics, 5.8Fastcat, Ed's(Showed the boy how to power shift that thing back in '02... Uhhh I believe the shift fork broke in the T5 just after that :D), Weasles, Karls and so many more...

I like Nate's stance, and love 5.8fastcat's Cougar completely.  Hawk's too.

Mine currently is a POS, but I aspire to build it up right.  It ended up a dd for 2 years first.  I bought mine for $200.00, definately got my money's worth.  My buddy had it before me and beat on it hard.(he got it from his bro in law from the twin cities)  He wanted to enduro race it, but i bought it instead.  It's the only one around, as this is mud-truck country.  I have to admit, I thought I was the only one nuts enuf to build one, but I see there's quite a select few of us that are nuts.

There is not one person that does not influence me. Not just the people who have extremely nice and modded cars, but people who have a starter car and are just getting it going or are in the process. The first two Cougars that really got me going were Eric's vert and Baxo's 85 when he had the Cobra R's on it. Hawk and Andrew Beedle had the first TBirds I saw that I loved, 83 Heritage and 86elan are an inspiration, also Aerobird and Old Raven's TC's just blew me away. Right now I honestly have to say Mikey, Fila Man you are an inspiration. Having one of the rare cars on here and with the progress he has made and help he has given. Altogether there is not one person who I can pick, but as a whole everyone does. Thats why I like the boards so much.

Ok, besides all the regulars (Hawk, Eric, etc etc, you know the drill), there are a few others that I dont think have been mentioned yet:

When I FIRST started pokin around for ideas for the Tbird (long before I found this forum), I came across what I later found out to be Chrome302Jr's cardomain page.  That car really got me excited to dig into my 5.0 and show people that these cars really do have potential.

As for Cougars, cougarman's "project eliminator" car always catches my eye.  I always admire it when I see it come up on the top banner.  The way it sits, the wheels, the PRIMER, the spoiler...it really looks old school, yet new at the same time.  And it looks sleek, which is something I could never grasp on the Cougars with that vertical rear window.

All in all, there aren't any cars on this forum that haven't given me ideas and/or inspiration in some way or another.  Many are still trying to get the ball rolling on their vision of what their cars will be (cougrr302, fila, etc), so it'll be fun to get to develop my car along at the same time they do.  Feeding off of ideas and making them your own style is what it's all about.

For me I'd have to say TurboCoupe50's car. I love the fact that it looks stock but isn't. I've always been a fan of the sleeper and that's what I want my car to be.

i vote mine for doing stuff not done yet because as far as looks go eric wins with the cougar and hawk wins with the T-bird as far as fame goes.

But when you want a one of a kind crazy car that does not have a big fan club and for someones 1st car and at a little over half way done theres more crazy mods to go.

Top picture is the newest added new window banner inside window made it much faster to s snow off car after work and added on the stripes to the sunroof last week i hope i get my custom sub box installed today might take a few pictures of it after its done.

You know, I would have to say I'm more inspired by people's cars on here rather than influenced.  Certain rides inspire me and give me ideas for this car, the Mustang and others that may come in the future (still lookin for a 4 eye T-bird V6 I can do a split port swap on).

As far as influence....What influences me is the drive to be different than others.  Taking this behemoth of a land yacht, pulling up to some poor schlub kid at a light in his import 1.6L equipped car replete with 9 inch diameter ler and 2 foot wing, blipping my throttle to 3K and enjoying the:
A) priceless look of fear on Junior's face or
B) The fact he's to intimidated to even look over.

THAT my friends; is MY influence!  No race even needed......

5.8 Fastcat and David ARE inspiring me to beef up my AOD and put some forced induction in the Demon.

There are quite allot of cars on here I enjoy seeing, allot. Most have already been named. Each have thier own special features making them personal. One of my favorite things about the cars on this site, everyones got thier own little thing they want to do or have on thier car already. I like what someone posted early on in here, "I like mine the most", since i like mine the most:D . The diversity of cars on here is VERY cool. I was never a big fan of the birds, but after seeing what allot of people have done on here, I now appreciate them, especialy blonde thunders car w/the shaker to name one of many cool birds on here. I also appreciate the many kept to original condition cars that many people have on here also. One day, when I have money again, I will finish mine....... I hope anyway. Keep posting pics of your cars people, I enjoy them all.

Before and after the 5 lug and 5 speed conversion.

For me the most influential bird is the one I rode in when I was in 5th grade. A buddy down the street dad worked at the Local Ford dealer, it also helped that his father in-law owned it. He had a brand spanking new 84 turbo coupe, might have been 83 but it was new and it had the 83-84 dash. I remember him taking us for a RIDE! as he called it. That was one hell of a ride. I remember getting thorwn back in the seat several times and smoking the tires. He seemed like the coolest Dude in the world back then. It is funny what we remember from when we ar young. As far as members of this boards cars. I can't pick one! There are way to many to pick just one,I'm Still like a kid in a candy store!

My influences change from time to time, and depending on which car I working on. For darkthunder I would say Andrew B, Chuck W (I had those wheels first!!!) :D and John331/Dogcharmer influenced me the most. And for the 88TC (now in TC hell you rusty !) I really liked the way Tom's (TC50) white TC looked. Nice and clean. Too bad my TC was so  rusty! And as for the current 87TC, Sleeper, cougarman, and Tbird232ci seem feed my imagination the most. Cougarman because he has the keys to my car.

I kid! :D

Actually he knows quite a bit about these cars, so I value his input.... Sleeper because that lo-gloss paint is awesome! Oh I wish I had the patience. You just never know what he's going to come up with next. If I had the dough, probably would have unintentionally copied Shawn's engine setup. His Bird is pretty  sleeper-ish too. I hate to be the unsuspecting a-hole that meets him on the street.

Oh and there's C-Dub... who keeps stealing my wheel ideas... *sigh*

lol

Well, when I came here in 03 (I think) we were still on the EZ board.. I got on the chat function, boy do I miss that, The first few people that started talking to me were Tom(TC50), Crystal, Bob(Thunder306), and a few others.

Tom has been a helluva influence. His white bird is an influence and the first car I actually liked. (as you see the cars grew on me)

Crystal, She thinks outside the box. Her sport with the louvers and frenched antenna its just awesome. Oldschool implements on a newer age car that just worked.

Bob, the sleek look of black and chrome ponys.. cant get any better than that. One kickass lookin car.

and some others

Chuck W.. made me realize that there are better things than 5.0's

Shawn.. kept me from doing some really stupid shiznit in the first couple years.

Claude.. Helpin me through some problematic stuff I was having...

Nate, I got my headers off of him... and his car is completly killer and it isnt even done yet.

Carl- Good man that I got my HO upper and H-pipe off of.

and all the others.. we all make an influence on each others cars. The passion for these cars influence them in their own ways.

Eric,
Would be my motivation. I can't remember what year it was that I found COOLCATS. Actually a buddy of mine found it and knew I liked the cougar and told me about it.

I seen Eric's cougar and though" Hey there are other people out there that like cougars."  I email back and forth with Eric when I was doing the black cat the 1st time.

So now my wife is adding all the receipts up for the new build to send to Eric for reimbursp00get.    LOL

Thanks to all  for the kind words.

Thanks to ERIC at cool cats for having a site that shows good ways to mod your car inside and out.

And that black cougar of yours makes me kinda want a SCT chip everytime i see the front window and with those nice ET times makes me want to keep my AOD.

The yellow cougar with the cowl hood and spoiler really stands out and if those 05 mustang wheels fit then some fanblades off the 06s might look good on a Aerobird.

If I remember correctly, I was searching for sequential tail lights when I came accross this site. I remember seeing Cyrstal's 87' sport and liking the color, then we had a GT come into the shop that was similar in color, and had some cool stripes, so I decided to paint mine that color. I know looking at Eric's car I got a bunch of hints from as well. I would still like to add some cool louvers that Crystal had on one of her cars also. But I contstatly pickup good ideas and info from most of the members here!
