Title: Official Cat Jam 2005 Thread
Post by: EricCoolCats on January 24, 2005, 01:08:41 PM
I'm sure a lot of you want to start planning your vacations for this summer, so here's the official low-down:

Cat Jam is July 22, 23 and 24 once again in Youngstown, Ohio, USA. We have a pavilion at our city's most prestigious and beautiful nationally-renowned park, Mill Creek Park. Full information on the pavilion can be found here: http://www.millcreekmetroparks.com/rental-slipperyrock.htm

As you can see, all amenities are covered (playground, bathroom facilities, parking, etc.) so that everyone can be fully accommodated. It is a little tricky to get to the park; however, I will be compiling a full packet for everyone attending so that they'll have ample time to familiarize themselves with the directions.

The most important thing is that the park is not very far from the hotels, nor from the strip (Rt. 224) where all the other car shows are. In other words, we're really not going that far out of the way and in fact, we will be a lot closer to Rt. 224 than in years past.

Also new this year is the concept of having a split caravan. We're going to divide into smaller groups, with each group having a leader and tail car to keep everyone in order. They will be equipped with CB's and will be in communication with everyone else. We're trying to make sure nobody gets lost; as you can imagine that's a very tall order but we are adressing the issue full bore this year.

For those that can help with the car caravans once here in town, we'll have a run-through trip from the hotels to the park tentatively scheduled for Thursday. If you're going to be in town then, not a problem...we'll take care of it on Friday sometime.

Please review all the sections on the site at Cat Jam's new address: http://www.catjam.net . This will be the place where all official communication is presented. It will be up to YOU to review it, but I will try to post on the message boards as a courtesy. There are also volunteer and registration forms posted there, so please fill those out if you're coming and/or can help.

Thanks everyone!

I've already begun my debate as to whether or not I come. Prolly will depend on where my work schedule falls, how much work I can get finished on the bird by then, my laziness  , my semi-timidness  , and finances. But pending what I decide I will prolly be willing to be one of the guide types seeing as i'm local to the general area. We'll see.

I have a few friends who own Cougars that may want to attend.

Are T-Birds welcome too???

We'll see what happens.    If I am going to ANY show I am gonna need to do some body and paint work.

If my friends go I'll have...
1985 Cougar V6
1983 Cougar XR-7 with 351
a number of people with T-birds (mostly Super coupes)
and a few 90's and newer cougars..

I'll be thinking about it.

I should be coming.  For the second year in a row the last Saturday of july is not the last full weekend so it won't interfere with my family reunion, which is always the last Saturday in July since before I was even born.  I will try to land in Youngstown on thursday night just so I don't have to rush as much to get there and to give me extra time in case something happens to the bird on the way.  After all, I have had my hands on just about everything on this car.

Yeah, but you're a better mechanic than I.  Im not scared though, if anything happened Ill just tow it into the hotel parking lot and get everyone to help fix it. lol

In CJ tradition, someone is working every year.  I remember one year Crystal spent most of the whole time shoulder deep into her door panel, fixing the door poppers.

That's the one I wasn't sure about. 2/3's of all cat-jams have been jam-packed with car-work.

Hopefully there won't be anything that serious, but maybe you should keep it on call just in case.  I think Crystal has been traumatized by the whole engine swapping thing. :)

Traumatized... no. Severely sunburnt... yes. I've pulled I think at least 3 engines this year, it's not a big deal.

It had to be done, so I stayed. In doing so, I missed out on a ton of stuff, I was at the park for all of 30 minutes, and while everyone was having fun all night saturday, I was exhausted and went to sleep.

I barely got to hang out with anybody I look forward to seeing all year, and I probably couldn't name anybody that I hadn't met the first year.

Would I do it again, yes. Would I prefer not to, yes.

Cat Jam is all about hanging out, meeting everyone and going to car shows, not seeing what the craziest thing we can do every year is. I mean if that was the case, I have far more extreme ideas we could try...

Yeah, I worked on the Sunday shift until about 5:00pm, aprox. 7 hours later than I wanted to stay on Sunday.  That put us home at about 2:00am instead of the 8:00pm arrival I was planning on.  But hearing the car fire up and run after all of that was great.  Although when it started a leaky water pump and fuel line was discovered.  Aahh the memories.

Charlie u have to watch what u say when u put 83 and XR7 together.  There are few people that seem to think that all XR7s got killed off by FORD.  In Canada there were still a few of them but in USA they got killed off.

Would be nice to show up at cat jam with a real 83 XR7.

A little early yet to tell, but I'll probably make CJ '05. Hopefully the Bird will be up a few weekend floggings at the drag strip and still make the 500+ mile jaunt.

I plan on being there, the motors will probably be out of both the Marks at the time, so unless I pick up another before then, we'll probably all just cruise up there in the Grand Marquis. Besides, if I find any good deals on blocks or any other parts, there's more room in the trunk of that beast.

Wake up one mourning, "Gee, I think I'll go to Cat Jam, its only 1,100 miles away"

Distance: 1050.6 miles Approximate Travel Time: 16 hours 9 mins
I'm in the same boat I really want to go but thats a lotta drivin by myself.  Plus the 5.0's drinking like a fish lately it would cost me more for fuel than for a hotel.  But i just had to have a V8.  On the plus side if i do get the money to go maybe i could do my five speed swap in a hotel parking lot.

He ! Thanks CougarSe, that will be nice ! Carry two engines in a long trip will be very nice. If one fails, the another prevails....

Of course, a simple question, how much time does a engine swap takes (accelerated mode) ?

Well..I have news...and most of it isn't good.

I guess the good news is I'm getting married on July 30th.  #2 for me, #1 for her.  We decided back in early April to get married.....We're not making a big ordeal out of it, but it has grown a little more than we had originally planned.

What does this have to do w/ CJ?  Well, since weddings aren't free, it has eaten into my car funds over the past couple months...thus slowing down the reassembly process.  Not a big deal, but I was going to be hard-pressed to make the trip, but was still going to try.  She actually wanted me to go until I basically told her the car would not be ready, and I would not go w/o the car.

Now, until a couple weks ago, there was still a very slim chance I would be able to make the trip.  However, while I was on vacation the week before last I blew out my "good" knee (possible torn muniscus)...and it's looking like surgery.  So that is more money out the door and I will most likely not be able to be driving anyway depending on what the MRI shows and when the surgery is.  That right there was the last nail in the coffin.  Even if it wasn't for the financial hit, there is no way right now I can really get in and get the car done.  I still have a cage to weld and a few other things, and I just can't do it right now w/ my knee, and will be even less mobile for a while after the surgery.  I'm limited to doing things I can do standing up...like putting the accessories and other bits back on the engine and sitting down to finally build the MegaSquirt kit I've had since X-mas (well I can sit down to build that :p).

So gang, I'm sorry to say you will not be blessed...or I guess I should say cursed w/ my presence this year at CJ.  :(  I'm pretty bummed about it.

!  Chuck, you're on my must-meet list along with Shawn... (who will probably bail at the last minute again, unfortunately).

I have some bad news of my own.  I'll be there, but I won't have my T-bird.  Right now CJ is what, a month away?  My t-bird hasn't moved since late last year.  I have a $500 credit card bill, $240 a month car payment, and I make about $700 a month since I've been screwed out of more hours.  You do the math.  I'll bring the neon, but I won't adorn it with ford or mercury badges as some crazy people did last year with another chrysler product. Heh. Of course I'll park it far, far away from all the good cars. Anyway, I'm guessing my non-car status probably disqualifies me for traffic control duty (you know, leading packs of cars from one location to the next).  Anyway, I'll still be there, maybe not 100% of the time, but I'll show up to see what everyone's done and look at all the cars.  Meh, this hurts me because so far I've been in attendance, with a car for every single CJ.  Blast!

I am thinking about it, But the days that you picked for it are the worst for me. The 24th is utahs aniversarry as a state. So everyone in utah is trying to get it off to go camping and buy fireworks and parties and stuff. If I can get it off(I wont know until last minute. They think I have a family reunion) Then I guess I am gonna burn a good $400 to $600 or more in gas drving there. I will also be stuck bringing my v-6 car.

Chuck...that sucks bro (about CJ, not the wedding). I know you've tried pretty hard to get here the past few years. Seems like no breaks are coming your way. I also was looking forward to meeting you. There's always next year, like we keep saying every year. :)

Brian...you can drive my T-Bird if you want. It can be your pimpalicious hooptie for the weekend boyeeeeeeeee.

Utah...wow, you guys really have nothing else going on out there, do ya?! :)
I would love to have another CJ out in the west sometime in the future. Problem is distance...and finding someone out there to organize it. Until I find that person, I'm afraid we're going to have to be eastern-centric. Please take no offense. We'd love to have you here but the logistics of the whole thing doesn't make sense for most people. Unless you're Royce and make that 1,700 mile one-way trip. ;)

Las Vegas nevada would be perfect for a wester conferance next year.Too late now. It is right inbetween utah and cali and a kind of fun place to be. Also if you could do it at diffrent times incase some one wants to go to both east and west conferances? I wouldnt want to run or be in charge of it, but I wouldnt have any problems looking into things maybe making plans and contacting places. Let me know?

Look for hotels in North Lima, Ohio.  It's a little bit down the road, but not much.  They should be cheaper by a little bit, too.

Eric - I might take you up on the offer unless I get a burst of mad motivation to get the car put together (even with a leaking pinion seal).

New Cat Jam 05 info posted on the site....http://www.catjam.net

All sections are functional, save for the itinerary. I'm still working on a few things.

Hmm... I may decide to come this year.  I probably won't be able to bring the car due to some reliability issues at the moment.  After all, it is a 1500 mile round trip.  A good long motorcycle ride would be fun.

Hah!  I live in Salem, about 20 miles from Boardman/Y-town.  Feel like swapping a rear end?

I am staying until Monday because I don't like driving my cat in the dark.  Is anyone else leaving Monday?  Maybe we could all grab breakfast somewhere before pulling chocks.

I'll be there, yes!  Got time off and I get paid that friday.  Hopefully everything stays cool with the cat.  Only problem is I need some new paws.

I'll be there saturday morning before the picnic.... clean up from the drive. Go to the picnic... then the show, then to jillians, then hang out a bit, sleep then drive home in the morning. My club and the other club in dubois are having a car show at a pizza hut restaurant at 5pm sunday. Just a small show. Mostly for tuners and local clubs.

Oh yeah... Friday during Cat Jam is the release of Rob Zombie's New movie "The Devil's Rejects" Being the huge Zombie fan that I am, I'm taking off at some point Friday night to go see it :D

Anyone that wants to is welcome to go, I'll post more details as soon as the theater does. I'm thinking the one at the mall:

Cinemark Tinseltown USA - Boardman OH
7401 Market Street
Boardman, OH 44512
(330) 965-2333

Tinseltown is good. It's right across from Jillian's at the mall, and it has stadium seating and a nice sound system. I'd definitely recommend it.

Well, looks like Tinseltown won't have it, so I think it will be:

Regal Cinema South 10
7420 SOUTH AVE
YOUNGSTOWN, OH 44512-5719

The Devil's Rejects
Rated (R) • 1 hr. 49 min.

That's right across from the hotels....you could walk there. It's older...seating is okay...sound is okay. Not like Tinseltown.

Hey, I'm already here!  :hick:

I wanted to get here early this year to have some time to clean up my car...last year I spent most of Friday cleaning, and was still tired from my drive. I got some cleaning done today but not a lot, but I'm slow.

When anyone else gets here, give me a call...I'm at Red Roof, room 203. I'm using a computer at Kinko's across from the mall to check my messages and stuff, so I probably won't actually be back on the internet again today after this...but I just found out that my stupid internet provider doesn't have a way for my to access my email! And I know Eric was sending out an email with itenerary, and his phone # and stuff...oh, well. I guess I'll see y'all tomorrow! :)

I just got home. Had a wonderful time! Thanks again Eric!

Also special thanks to Nick (blown306). Rather then eating at the picnic, Nick stayed back with me at the parking lot at the park and fixed my (ahum mistake) then adjusted the timing, the throttle cables, tps, and even pulled the codes for me. Great Guy. Thanks a million. I still owe ya a drink next year bud.
Thanks to Brian (ifixyawata) for the intake plate. thanks!
Also thanks to Steve for taking a quick look at my cluster. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks to everyone else who made the weekend fun! I can't wait to see pictures!!

Thanks!!!

Here's my contribution to the pics. I decided last year after looking through the pics and seeing practically no pictures of people hanging out, that's what I'd take pics of this year.

I didn't get many since I was terrible about having a charged battery in my camera, but here are some: http://www.ferdbird.com/cj05/ I figure everyone else has the cars covered

Nice shots everyone, Im sure there will be more. Sorry I didnt get any but I think the digicam is broken.

By the way, Marc said he had a great time and couldnt believe how nice it was in Boardman, especially how great every one was and says "HI". Anyways, ride home was nice until we got caught up in a traffic jam less than 10 miles away from our exit and spent an hour in some stop n go, thats when that DVD player comes in real handy! :D

88, CJ will always be in Y-town, but that's not to say that some of you guys that are further out there can't get something of your own together.

I, also, had a great time, like usual.  Maybe not as good because of not having my own car and having to hear constant shiznit-talking from all the hot-rodders at the show, but both of those are only more motivation for me to get my car back together and improved for next year.  It was awesome talking to and hanging out with all of you.  There were a few I didn't get to meet, but it's ok, I'll  catch y'all next year.

The logistics of me planning a show hundreds of miles away from home will always be a barrier. However...if (and that's a big IF) an individual or group could get a place together, line up events, and generally do things up the way we rock it in Ohio, I would not have an objection to having a CJ Central or West show. I would help as much as possible and also attend. We've talked about it before and it's an open door for those that have the ambition and connections to put on such a show.

For me, having the resources here in Ohio is what makes the show successful. Even if I were to move the show a mere 1 hour away, things would be much more difficult to plan. I'm much better off sticking with what I know...and from what people told me over the weekend, and here on the board, everyone loves it as-is. CJ East will always be here in Y-Town for that simple reason.

There is enough of us in the Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. That we could have a get together say like in the quad citys some where. There almost in the middle of the 3 states.

For all that we could have it in my home town Peoria, Il. and make it Il, Ia, In, Mo, and Wi becasuse Peoria, Bloomington, Normal are almost dead center of the state.

Well as far as I know there are some Cougar/T-Bird guys here in kansas. Why not this be the place for a Central CJ. I know that there are some big shows around. Recently the Lead Sled show in Salina,KS was pretty big. They are considering that the best place to have it. Salina, Kansas City, anywhere big would be a great place. Kansas is pretty much the Center of the U.S. But it is of course up to everyone and I am definetly up for the hassle of making it work if that is what could possibly be for the future.
