Title: No gauge lights...
Post by: vinnietbird on April 07, 2007, 09:42:01 AM
I started my car yesterday, and all of the gauge lights went out when I turned on the headlights.Everything else still works fine (headlights, clock, radio, dome light, etc).I haven't had a chance to get under the dash, but does it sound like a fuse?

Which fuse is for the gauge lights?

Does the clock and such dim when you turn on the lights? If not somthing isn't getting signal from the switch.

It is usually one of two things that cause this: The dimmer switch (thumbwheel next to the headlight switch) or the cluster illumination relay. Try moving and wiggling the thumbwheel to see if you can make the lights flicker (or even come on OK).

The Cluster Illumination Relay is on the left side of the dash center stack, in behind and to the left side of the radio/HVAC controls

O.K.,I feel stupid.I swapped the relays from the parts car to this one, nothing.I swapped the light switch, nothing. It turns out that the 5 amp #13 fuse blew.New fuse, lights work.I should've checked the fuse first.I know better than thatPretty sad when I buildd the car with my own two hands from the ground up and didn't even think to check the fuse first.I ven mentioned it above.Oh well, the lights work and it didn't take more than 15 minutes to go through everything.Glad I know the car as well as I do.
