Since yesterday I've been seeing coolant on my dipstick. A fair bit of it. Also some kind of white is showing up in my coolant overflow tank. Can you help me narrow this down? I'm out of town and this morning I had a garage retorque my intake manifold because I suspected it had settled and allowed this. But the problem persists. I don't want to believe it's a head gasket because they were just replaced like 1 1/2 years ago. Thoughts?
Coolant in the oil can only get there through the head gaskets, intake manifold, or a cracked block or head, so it's not gonna be good news...
You sure it's actual green coolant? A bit of water on the dipstick is normal, especially this time of year
Well I'm not seeing any actual green. Just white. So maybe I'm over-reacting and it is just condensation. I'll be keeping a very close eye on it.
My bet are the head gaskets. In my experience, the white is from the water mixing with the oil.
Well I just drove back into town and the fresh oil is contaminated with white scum again. No strange noises or smokey exhaust but also the antifreeze is looking kinda brownish in the overflow tank. Can that happen if it's just the intake manifold gaskets? Tomorrow I plan to check the spark plugs for evidence.
Or maybe the brown antifreeze is just rust and it was always there and I'm being obcessive :P
