Title: 83-86 TBird and Cougar hoods
Post by: rodsterh on April 02, 2007, 09:45:26 PM
I did a search but didn't find any interchange info on hoods.

Do these cars share the same hood? I found a nice clean 84 Cougar hood and wondered if it is the same as my 83TC hood.  I noticed one slight difference (the underhood light was on the PS of the Cougar hood but on the DS of my TBird) but am more concerned the lines/hinges/etc.

Thanks

Ummm....yes and no LOL.

I think we figured out that 1983 hinges are different from 1984-86. Something about the pattern where they bolt to the hood. The 1983 springs do indeed seem to be at least visually different.

So to be sure, if it were me, I'd also grab the '84 hinges just in case. But in general you can do it, just might need to elongate some holes in your current hinges.

My 84 doesn't have springs it has a prop rod. Old school from the Factory. LOL.  I  did bolt an 87 hood on my 84 with the 84 hinges. But as already stated they should work.

The 83 and 84  hood hinge have different lengths between bolt centers were they bolt on to the hood. if you change hoods between these years you will need to change the hinge too. The hinge bolts to the car the same on both years.

83's unique???  Go figure!  :dunce:

Thanks for the info. Lesson learned here....grab the hinges AND the hood!

It's so nice and straight it's probably worth a trip back.
