Hello,
I have a '87 Cougar with a 5.0 and was wanting to know if the turbo Coupe electric fan assembly would work with the V-8? Plus if it does, would it be enough to cool the engine? I have the opportunity to buy a excellent unit from an '88 and want to make sure first.
I dont think the turbocoupe fans will fit in the 5.0 atleast it did not fit in the one i tried it was a 88 cougar. But if they would fit I do think it would be enough to cool the engine.
Get one from a taurus. The fit great, flow more air than a LOT of aftermarket fans, and are easy to find.
I doubt you've got enough room...the TC fan assemblies are really deep (it's the motors on the fans, they stick back unnecessarily far)
Oh, and they pretty much suck.
Yeah I notice the fans are pretty large on the TC fan, that is what had me questioning it. Is the Taurus fan assembly almost the same size as the radiator, is it a close bolt on? What are your ideas on wiring the fan up? toggle switch or thermostat set up.
Thermostat, it's to easy to forget to turn the switch on.
The fan is almost as big as the radiator. It's very easy to mount, and there's a write up on the FordMuscle forum about how to hook up the exact same radiator. They used it on a modded 5.0 engine in wicked hot temps with no problems at all.The kit from Autozone to hook it all up using the thermostat is only about $25.00 (my buddy works there and hooked me up).
Tc fans will NOT work on a 5.0L for sure.
As said above the motors do not clear the beltdrives.
Okay, now what generation of taurus fan do I need, '86-'95 or the '96 and up?
Grab a Mark VIII fan.
