Title: Almost Lost the TC to an Electrical Fire Today, some good news though...
Post by: Inspiribomb on March 25, 2007, 10:27:59 PM
I decided to install the new electric radiator fan today. The one I got felt a bit rough when spinning it by hand, there was some resistance, should have been a clue right from the get go. Anyway, got it installed and took it out for a spin to check things out, good deal. As I was leaving my bro's place, I decided to stop and check things under the hood once more. Well, when I stopped there was smoke coming out of the hood scoops. shiznit. Popped the hood and sure enough, the wiring at the fan motor was ON FIRE. I was able to put it out before any real damage was done.

Went and exchanged the fan, this one spun freely and moves A LOT more air. I figure the additional resistance to spinning shot the current way up, which in turn heated things up to the point of lighting on fire. No problems yet, but I will for sure be buying a fire extinguisher in the near future. I almost lost my baby today, and my heart still hasn't slowed down. Just wanted everyone to know, be careful out there.

PS - I forgot to mention, when I hooked up the new fan, it runs constantly, even with the keys out of the ignition, so I think I fried the fan relay. Where is that thing located? Or, is there something else that would cause that?

On a brighter note...

After about 4-5 hours of work yesterday, my bro and I got my large NPR and Ranger radiator installed in the TC. It was a bit more work than I'd hoped, but it turned out pretty darn good. We took it out for a quick spin to see how she ran, I built about 4 pounds of boost and shifted and heard the loudest WHOOSH! ever! Then the car stalled. Well, dumbass me forgot to tighten the hose clamp on the Forge RS BOV and the thing shot right off the IC tube.

Fixed that and drove it for about another 30 seconds, had a shin-dig to get to. It wouldn't "blow off," but I have a feeling that is because I had the valve set for 20 PSI (the Forge RS has a  on the top to adjust spring force).

Oh, today I lowered the spring force and my Forge BOV blows off effing LOUD!!!  I love it!!!
