seems ok, just make sure youre up to whats needed to get it going, and check everything over thoroughly. it says "minor rust" "good floors" but you always want to be sure, get on your hands and knees and have a look. check out the subframe in the engine bay too, ya want that to be there i think :hick:

maybe im missing something but even with the fuel tank not in and the one brake line missing, i think $550 for that is great. ive never seen one up close and personal but they seem real loaded and of course its got the H.O. engine, always a +.

they are nice cars, i like them. Hopefully get an address and look tomorrow im not settling for anything slow, really bummed i can't have my stang, but i wouldn't mind that. wouldn't be stock for long, cobra intake, a cam, and exhaust would be on there before you know it

i've riden in one of these and down here in ga they're abundant, maybe not lsc, but i think out of the fox bodies those do look the most sinister.  with the HO already in it, although its an auto, 550 is a good price.  it'll end up prolly 1500 dollar car wto make it right, but i'd say its worth it.  they're  nice.

So, what is that "SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY" part? Does that mean there's no "title" with it? Does he actually own it?

Up here in the land of ice and snow, when we decide to sell the old dogsled to get a shiny new snowmobile for the summer, we give the buyer one copy of the registration papers (proof of ownership), along with a big multi-copy Transfer/Tax form.

Down there, with all the "no title" sales I read about, what happens if you pay your money, go to the DMV to put in your name, and find out it was stolen and the seller has vanished? I guess I just don't understand your "system".

Nice looking car.Parts are getting hard top find for these also.It comes with the tank and straps,so you only need a brakeline. That's not a big deal.If it were near me,I'd buy it,yank the drivetrain, and part out the rest.I could make more than it cost on parts alone.I'd keep the 5.0 for something else.

i hope its not like that in ri, cause i have a car in my driveway i have the original title but it was never signed over to me, i just was given the car. Ill ask him about it when i go today. i mean it needs a brake line and a gas tank put in so hes had it for awhile.

usually if a car is retitled in ga its branded with "Salvage" which must be inspected before it gets the title and drive.  in parts of ga that means makin the car run well, pass emmissions, and is structurally sound.  i've known people to do it with hondas and acuras.

why wont mom let you drive the '66? that would be SICK to cruise around in, you posted pics and its obviously not like it was when it left the factory but its good enough that it would look real cool goin down the street!!! lemme guess "too much power"? in that case i guess she has a point, thats a legitimate concern, just prove that youll be responsible and not reckless and ill bet she'll lay off soon enough.

nope to much for insurance it would end up costing me over 3k a year to insure it, plus at 12 mpg highway i would be putting massive amouts of gas in it, so in a way its good

$ 550.00 sounds like a good price to me.  The paperwork on the car is a big concern tho.

Without being able to hear the engine run, you are taking the chance that the engine and/or transmission is junk. So proceed with that in mind. I have learned a few "tricks" people do to get rid of something. Disable the car to hide something else. I hope that is not the case here.

Our 89 MK VII got 26 mpg with the air and cruise on. Fantastic car.

If I found another at a good price I would buy it.:D :D

I know all the tricks, im gonna look it up and down underneath and eveyrthing. Even if its junk a good body, chassis, wheels, not to mention its a lsc its worth it for a project car, IF i get it im shooting for 300ish hp before its on the road.

There should be a tab on the tank that locates the pump/sender piece in there the right way. Also that WTF vent if a fuel vapor vent of some sort. It also closes in a rollover.

Dont unbend the metal on the edges of the tank there supposed to be like that and if you straighten it could leak!

Not sure if 86 or 87 was the first year of the forged piston / Mustang H.O. equipped Lincolns.
I think it was the 87's.

All I know is that our 89 Bill Blass has a fantastic 5.0 H.O. engine with a perfect dead-on calibration because it gets 26 mpg with cruise and a/c on.  No kidding!

The LSC has the heavier duty air bags and sway bars. That is why the LSC weighs more.

I weighed our BB without driver and with 1/4 tank of fuel and it weighed 3675 lbs.  Not bad for the largest fox body of all time.

Also, it ran 71 mph in the 1/8th

With traction that was a 9 second car.  Man that car pulled hard at mid track.

26mpg hwy seems about right; I average around 20-23 just regular everyday driving.  The HO does pull really hard around 3,000-4,000 rpm.

the tank metal is not supose to be bent i know for a fact the paint is chiped on one side and thanks guys, now i just have to wait and start tearing into it, im also getting a complete intake for few from a relative that owns a shop a street from my house, so i am gonna toy with it, swap it on, and sell the other one, assuming its a H.O. Running driving, is first, then exhaust, then inside repairs, then performance mods, or what ever i find cheap. need to keep my eyes open for a front valence, trunk lid, and a few inside parts. Plus i need to find out what the spaceship button panel does. I felt like a scientist in it today, so many freaking buttons. BUT ITS MINE, best birthday present to me in forever(b day is tomorrow, people should send me parts!!j/k) Wish me luck, should be a fun experience. Ill be on here still alot, looking out for cheap parts!

I believe the H.O. Marking is under the upper intake top-plate. Anyway, both the upper and lower H.O. manifolds are marked as such.

TAKE YOUR TIME with it.Study what your doing before you start working on it.You can can start throwing parts on and actually make the car worse.Make sure you have a plan and that you do it right the first time.Don't use py parts because that's all you may be able to afford at the time.save your money and do it right with good parts.

O trust me, its gonna get the best of the best, no cheapo shiznit. I first need to check ever brake line for the leak, since the tank is out its nice and easy, then fix that throw in the tank, flush every fluid just to be safe, and its getting all royal purple, then tune up before i even try to turn it over. Im wicked buttstuff when it comes to something i like. shiznit i even used royal purple in my motorcycle i bought! I have the guys on the lincoln forum walking me though what i need, and how to do it, man i can't wait to rip everything apart and check it all. Its gonna be awesome!

Nice buy.
As for the intakes, lower is the same ho or non, only upper is different and as stated above it says HO under the plate.
All gas tanks i've seen on t-birds and cougs have bends at the corners(can't remember which corners)but it is normal for clearance issues.
Check the tank thats in the car before bending them back.
Title: I BOUGHT THE LINCOLN (pics page 5,7)
Post by: vinnietbird on April 08, 2007, 07:16:30 AM
My tank has bent corners as well.I'd leave the engine alone until everything else is in order.gather parts as you can,but let it be if it's running good.Just spend time on all of it's needs, and your "wants" will eventually happen.get the interior right, and all the little things that are going to nickel and dime you to death.
Title: I BOUGHT THE LINCOLN (pics page 5,7)
Post by: daboss351 on April 08, 2007, 11:36:47 AM
I won't be bending them back, one bend looks fine, the other the paint is chipped so i know it was dropped. There is no tank in the car, the old one was gone long before i saw the car. First im looking over the brakes for the suspected leak it has, then getting it running, checking the suspension, brakes, motor, then fixing inside long before i get mods other then the exhaust only cause it needs one im just gonna go up from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2. She will be home tomorrow!!!

when? you mean where? There is a tab on one of the cover bolts. has two rows of numbers, the bottom row, first 3-4 digits are the gears a letter in there "L" indicates locker

3L27=3.27 Locker
2L73=2.73 Locker
3 55=3.55 Not a Locker

well i need to get the mounts out for the tank they cut the straps and left the pins, and striped on bolt, so i can't hang the tank till i can mount the straps! i hate when people hack shiznit!! Yea my fog lights don't work right now, im hoping its just cause the battery is so low, and then once the battery drops real low in power the blower fan kicks it self on its really weird. Well im going out before it gets dark to try and get it out i have day off after school tomorrow and i want to get the tank in! and im now waiting on money so i can buy all new fluids for her, she sat for 2 years without starting im not risking running it on whats it it!

just take your time man!!! dont rush it i know how bad you want to drive it. i speak from experience. it was exactly the same with me and the '38. but then a year goes by and you forget about the fact that you had to wait an extra day or two or maybe even a week. its so insignificant really. yet...so hard to realize at the time! you get tunnel vision, it just consumes you.

try to keep it under control though. do it once and do it right. trust me youll be all the more proud in the end knowing she'll hold up well.

that sure is nice that you have a brand spankin' new tank though. looks beautiful.

and yeah it SUCKS trying to work with stuff people cobb together. thats why i try not to do that myself, tempting as it may be sometimes :hick:

I said to hell with it i got the pins out, and one strap in, pulled down the gas lines only to find theres still gas in one! So i got covered in a little gas no biggy. the striped bolt is gonna be a bitch, and i couldn't find which line is for return and for sending cause the lines are in the  driveshaft hump, and the freaking thing is so low, and my driveway is on a slant so i wasn't about to jack it sky high like that. End rant lol.
the axel tag says S40TF on one line and the next line says 2TN88      7G21
wtf do i have in it??
o and the tail pipes are rotted off the lers, and the ends of the lers are rotted off! good excuse to upgrade from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2!
I just need the tank in, then im buying the new fluids and changing them all, ripping down the exhaust, and praying to GOD she fires right up, cause i think ill cry if it doesn't! Im taking it slow doing it right, cause man i want people to go holy shiznit how much did that thing cost you, and i can say i bought it for 540 and fixed it myself. I take pride in my work, especially since its my car!

Sorry daboss, I should have gave ya more info.. had some links and dident past them.. here's a few plus a pic of my 84 Mark VII tag.

lots at the bottom of this page...

Ford changed through the years and I don't know exactly what yours would look like.. but it should be resonably obvious... Sometimes however (like on my 8.8) some of the numbers get smashed behind the bolt and are hard to read.. you will find them.

My Mark was a 7.5 2.73 non posi
Posi would have been ( 2L73 75 7K06 ) on the bottom line
the other two 'date" and "plant info" i have never bothered to try figure out

OK! ive been busting my ass for the past 3 hours on her! got the rotted factory duels cut out, and the tank is sitten under the ass end, because one i still can't get the bolt out, and 2 because i need the little  clips that hold the flex lines! i think im gonna move the hole for the tank strap over, by drilling another hole and running a bolt, anyone for see any problems? the bolt is so striped its not coming out, and im not torching the chassis. Time to search for a new h pipe, factory one isn't 2 1/2 so i need one to put lers on so i can take it to the shop have tails made. Pics of my progress, and the rotted factory stuff!

First thing to be bought new for the car is gonna be filter rp oil, plugs and wires cap and rotor. Hopefully my dad is sending enough for that.... Then im saving for my new 2 1/2 h-pipe. Ok i got the fuel lines on the tank all the wireing and the vent hooked up, drill the hole for the bolt, hang the straps stick the tank under, jack it to the floor, pull over the straps, AND THEY DON"T REACH!!! Upon further inspection the straps say for a ford thunderbird, is this my problem? If i take the plastic shield off, the straps fit but VERY tightly. I need input, cause i want this sucker in TODAY!

i think something is off i mean it just doesn't seem right..... im fitly covered in rust chips and getting frustrated so now im cooling off before i go outside take it all down and go threw it again to make sure its right. If only i knew what right was.
The straps don't fit to the tank or the cover remember in those pics theres no plastic shield, so without the shield its no good anyway. i think i might have to shift the tank over one notch im not sure. Im waiting on input from LoL.

Guessing maybe you have straps for a earlier Tbird with the 18 gal tank...

I thought you said gas was all that was left. You HAVE to put good fluids in it first.Have you checked E-Bay?there are h-pipes all over.Check it out. You'll have to lengthen the flow tubes a little, but any ler shop can do that for cheap.I wish a lot of you guys lived down here.I found a yard in Oklahoma City that has 3 mark VII's.

well it really is the only thing but, im not gonna be stupid im playing it safe, cause the car isn't 109k miles, its either 95k or 195k i hope its the first, there is no tenth of a mile on the gauge, so its reading 95k right now. It looks in to good of shape to be 195k so. Im gonna be buying a 2 1/2 catted h for the flowmasters, then im gonna make a temp piece to put it out in front of the tires, till i can get it to a ler shop for some 2 1/2 tail pipes. Im getting a motorcraft filter, and royal purple once my dad sends me my birthday money..... Royal purple isn't cheap but if im gonna do it, im gonna go all out! Next will be nice plugs and wires, cap and rotor. But those will wait!
Im just gonna get gas and thorw it in see if the pump cycles, and see if she will fire up, then shut it right down. I NEED to know if i bought a runner, or if im gonna be throwing money in it!

Might not be a bad idea to pull the plugs, get a breaker bar, and turn the engine a little bit by hand...that will at least tell you if it's froze up or not. good luck with it, not a bad looking car at all.
Wish I'd had a decent car like that at your age.

I've never worried about the oil, as long as it looks normal(not milky etc), and the engine will spin, I'm gonna try to start it... IF the oil is $hitty it's probably fornicateed up anyway... If you change the oil first you should change it again as soon as the motor is hot... All the  that settled out of the old oil, is laying in the bottom of the pan and just got sucked up in the new oil...

IF it runs OK and don't raise Hell, I'll give it a oil and filter change...

not a bad price check around the moldings i noticed around all of mine theres rust bubbling up. If you get it and do the coilover conversion tell me how its rides. My air suspension is good, but im contemplating swapping it. Wish mine was black on black, but im good with what i got. Im looking into maybe doing the mass air conversion, and a new h pipe for first rounds of mods. Tomorrow if it stops raining i should have my permit, and the car running!
Title: I BOUGHT THE LINCOLN (pics page 5,7)
Post by: bhazard on April 15, 2007, 02:47:47 PM
Yeah the good thing about the air suspension is you can "sensor lower" it by moving the height sensors up, fooling the system into thinking the car is too high, and thus lowering the car a bit. I know you can do that on the VIII's at least, dont know about the VII.

I have a crazy idea i know mustang tails are to short of your cars and mine, but how far short do they fall? I was thinking about getting a set of flowmaster tails, rotating the ends to go out right behind the rear wheels at an angle. And i figure if it doesn't work ill just go to pepboys buy some pipe and extend them
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLO%2D15815&N=700+4294923429+4294820497+4294806721+4294908331+115&autoview=sku
along with this h pipe

ill have to custom mount cats but it will be alot cheaper that way, and ill have to make flow tubes to the lers then to the tails. But im hoping it will all end up cheaper then all custom made.

Those tails are $102 in aluminized form. If youre gonna get an aluminized H pipe I dont see any point in stainless tails.

Also it doesnt look like my mother will be getting that Mark. It could be a decent car but it needs tires, brakes, and I know she wont get the rust fixed before it goes through. The engine ran great though...

If it was me needing a car I would grab it.

I bought a nice new set of 2 1/2 inch tail pipes (Stang) that are actually about the right length for my 'Bird (some company selling tham on E-bay for cheap). They don't have tips or stainless ends, just pipe going straight back, which, was perfect since I'm going to be using a very nice set of tips).

My factory h is 2 1/4 my flowmasters are 2 1/2 id rather buy the h pipe then new lers! And ah you underestimate the creativity of a 16 year old motor head with nothing better to do! those nice stainless tips will not be rear exit but will exit in back of the rear tires. I have a plan and i intend to make it happen. Im not looking for the normal with this car, which is why i bought it its strange! My friends hate it, which makes me love it even more! Tomorrow im going for my permit at 1, then driving my ass to the gas station getting gas , throwing it in going to get more gas putting it in, and hopefully gonna hear her purr! Then i have to wait for the b day money from my dad so i can get oil and a filter. Then comes new door panels, and h pipe. If been making a list im not liking it, its already becoming a money pit, but its gonna be worth it! Im gonna be pimping in a lincoln baby! HA!

No,you WANT that.Get everything done that needs to be done, then go back and do what you want.Get a nice exhaust first, fluids, tune up,then,go with a new set of headers,Mass Air,etc.

Ok so i found myself a h pipe. Ive made a plan, that im gonna collect all the parts before i start anything, that way i can have one giant fun day! Anyone else have cheap parts! Such as mass air stuff, headers, cold air intakes, and such basic 5.0 mods?

Our cars already have a cold air intake.Get into the inner fender and remove the air silencer and you're good to go.Besides,if you plan on going Mass Air one day,the air duct is different than Speed density.Wait until you hook up the Mass Air before you go aftermarket CAI.But,as i said, ours already is CAI.

The factory headers are actually not too bad for a mostly stock engine.

i think im gonna go with the summit special headers, i am gonna buy the mass air intake and im just gonna stock pile everything till i have all the exhaust stuff, and ill do that, then all the underhood stuff. I have a plan, and like i said when i do something right, im the most buttstuff 16 year old you will meet, i have to have it ALL.
