Title: ford t-5 vs. gm t-5

I got to thinking about the t-5 swap and didn't want to pay out the nose for a new t-5 and all the junk yard in the area want $800 plus for a used one. I had the idea of getting a t-5 from a camaro and changing the bellhousing on it. Wanting to know if this sounds like a good idea or not. I have talked to some of the people I work with and they said it may work.

Wanting your thought before I buy a t-5.

wont work, the f-body t5 is reclocked about 45*, wont work in a ford, not to mention the spline differences

The GM T5 will have a different shifter location(not as far back), different input/output shafts, and will require a GM slip yoke be adapted to your D/S. I'd forget it....

The reclock is done by the bellhousing, main cases are similar enough to work. I had two of the "twisted" Sunbird T5s that I compared with the Ford 5.0 unit. One wound up in a Camaro and the other behind a 350 in a '78 Chevy van.

The shifter is 45* or the entire thing. I knew about the spline difference, I was going to have to look at a clutch catalog and see what I could get.

well, my buddy told me this, im not 100% sure, he said the tranmission is clocked 45* or so, but the shifter sits straight up as it does with our trannies, so it seems that if he bolted up the tranny to a ford bellhousing, it would sit 45* either way
