Title: Will 3.31 ring pinion fit my 7.5 rearend?
Post by: jgonza2 on March 24, 2007, 02:23:54 AM
I've got the stock rearend with 2.73 gears and I'd like to get a bit more green light get-up-n-go out of my H.O.  This car is my daily driver so I don't want too much gear--especially with today's (AND TOMORROW'S) gas prices;  My normal driving pattern is 80% street and 20% freeway (during rush hour).  So, I'm wondering if the ring and pinion from a 2007 V6 mustang will fit my 7.5?  Thanks.

Are you talking about just changing the gears or swaping the chunk?
Because if you just change the gears there might be a difference in carrier size. but if you change the chunk you should be ok.

I am talking about just changing the gears...I thought all ford 7.5 rearends might be the same.

I thought all '05 and newer Mustangs had the 8.8", which would make sense considering that V6 models now make almost as much power as the Fox 5.0 did...

The new Mustangs still have 7.5" in the 6 cyl. but the GT's 8.8" are 31 splined.

You sure???
I thought they stopped making the 7.5 rear???
Went 3.27s in mine when i had it,it is the largest you can go and still keep the speedo accurate with a 21 tooth gear.

That is correct.
