lol
lol, whats the hype about 5.0's?
Well I didn't think it was too bad of a discussion until I hit the part about Chevy designing Ford's 302! :spit:
Then calling the 4.6 a small engine. Maybe small displacement for an American V8 but you ever look at one of those puppies? Dang that block looks almost as large as a big block! Makes the little 302 block look tiny.

After reading all of that ,I'm going to finishinh installing my new carpet and seats, then I'm going to take my car out and spank a couple of tuners just because I can.....and maybe I'll find a 3.8 Stang for dessert.
man paul you must have alot of time, to find and read a 3.8 stang site.
I'm doin' some research. Now I just have to find an 83-86 T-bird V6 with an AOD to start a new project with....
welcome to 3.8mustang.
Stick around there, and your IQ will drop.
yous!
freaking 4 and 6 cylinders are making that nowadays nevermind 390+hp V8s. what a mishmash ....
Hmmm yeah...my dad and I test drove an old 83 Tbird with the V6 in it...it was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Even my SO at the time just blew it away. 5.0s are strong, reliable engines and get good gas mileage! And then there's the aftermarket...
Jeremy, I'll document everything..... Infact it looks as if the best donor will be a late model F-150 with a 4.2 and manual trans.....If I can find one at a yard with a good motor that is....
Cool. Will the 4.2 intake fit under the hood?
I doubt it..... the issue seems to be with the top mounted IAC. Nothing a sawzall and a custom cowl can't fix though. To top it all off I want to retain a return style fuel system. The engine management setup will be the biggest hurdle.
I didn't think so.
If you have any questions, let me know. I've pretty much done all the research to slap one (Mustang 3.8) in. All that remains is to purchase the pieces.
I got a few, mainly because I want to use the IMRC type intake from a Windstar or F-150.... As far as using the single port setup from a Mustang I suppose it would be alot easier AND it should fit under our hoods.
I'm just looking to be difficult is all:hick:
I'm going to use a SP 3.8. It should fit under our hoods. IMO, if you swap in anything less than a SP 3.8, you are a glutton for punishment.
wow!! 260 inline 6? (250). '63 first year of the small block? (62 221ci). ford small block/big block? (windsor, 335 series, 385 series, FE, [y-block, flathead, MEL, esshag, modular,etc...]) welcome to the internet, home of misinformation, lol.
I kinda want to put my 400 in place of my 3.8 now. I'd be curious to the 4.2 swap, though.
I whole-heartedly agree and I may do the single split port for ease of installation/maintenence. Either way I'd like to go with a 4.2 so long as I can grab one cheap enough. I'm still early in the planning process, so we'll see.
Dragging this up again.......A reputable source has told me a 1997 F-150 4.2 V-6 has both IMRC AND a return type style fuel system. So an F-150 4.2 liter with IMRC and the EEC-V wiring harness for a '97 with a manual trans will work.
