Title: Door Speaker ? SOLVED
Post by: mjbtbrd on March 19, 2007, 05:13:10 PM
I just got some 6.5" speakers, and i figured they would fit, but they are too big.

Is there some brand of 6.5's that fit without any cutting, filing, grinding type mods?

Should I get 5.25"?

Do they line up with any of the factory holes?

My 6.5's lined up with 2 or 3 of the factory mounts. I put a ton of padding behind the speaker edge along opening of the speaker hole in the door and tightened them down as much as I could. Never rattled or anything.

It is not a line up issue.  The speaker does not fit into the hole.  The speaker is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch too bigin diameter.  Did you have any issues like that?  or did they just pop in?  What kind of speaker did you buy?

Oh, okay. I have pioneers. Niether the speaker nor frame was too big for the hole though.

You may have a 6 3/4 or what's called an oversized 6.5 I've had four different sets in the last six years. mine all fit. I've used infinity blaupunkt pioneer and now polk momo.  The polk's are rather large for a 6.5 and they still fit quite well. Whatever you end up with, invest in some dynamat. Our doors were not designed for the best sound quality.

I bought some Jensen 6 1/2" speakers and they wouldn't fit in the holes either. So I mounted them behind the metal inside the door. I used those U shaped clips on the speaker and screwed  throught the door and into the U shpaed clip on the speaker. I work great just make sure you center the speaker and the sround isn;t touching the metal.

I got some pioneer ones and they fit fine.

I think the ones I had were indeed the oversize 6.5's like blackcatdaddy said.

I guess I could have used ipsd's workaround never thought of it.

what speakers work the best and still not have to cut a hole in the door panel? i was looking at them today and it seems that with any decent pair, the doorpanel will just press against it.

i dunno about you guys but when i installed my pioneers (the same which i predict willigo has) i used 2 screws per speaker, tightend them, and i havnt had any what so ever problem with sound quality.  even after upgrading the amps going to the speakers.

I lineed up the holes that would and drilled new holes  for the others, no big deal
