Title: One of those days you remember forever...
Post by: Thunder Chicken on March 15, 2007, 12:25:56 AM
I spent much of the day today in a hospital bed, with an IV in one arm and a bunch of wires attached to the other. The reason? Kidney stone. It was the second time I suffered through one (the first time was in 2000). You cannot imagine pain until you've experienced a kidney stone. Thankfully it passed relatively quickly (a few hours). It doesn't hurt anymore, even though the morphine has worn off. Now I only have to dread the thought of this one being like the first one, which was actually a series of three that happened over a week (and resulted in my quiting a job)...

Oooh shiznit, my dad went through one of those, and he was miserable.  The doctor, a female, said it's comparable to going through labor.  Glad you got through it ok, and here's to hopin this one flew solo.

I've passed three in the last ten years. For those women who like to say say things like, "You men don't know the pain of childbirth." I gots news for ya. When a woman gives birth to a 20 pound bowling ball covered in 40 grit sandpaper, we'll have something to talk about.

Actually, it is like going through labor.

Try having them when you are 7 months pregnant! I thought I was going into labor when they hit me. It was about 4 a.m. and I woke Roger telling him I was in labor....we could even time the pain. He called my mom to come stay with the boys and we headed for the hospital.
When we got there, I couldn't walk...he had to get a wheel chair for me. They took me to labor/delivery and hooked me up to machines to monitor the baby and contractions, only to say I wasn't having any contractions! WHAT???

Yeah, it was Kidney Stones..... had a sonogram to be sure.  Then they sent me home after a few hours. I still couldn't stand up or walk. I ended up in bed for about 4 days, and only got up to take warm baths and use the bathroom.  The warm water and lying on my left side helped a lot.

Thats terrible, glad to see you're ok.

I remember one time, I had gone with my friend up to Virginia for the weekend.  One night, I woke up EXTREMELY hungry, yet my stomach felt really weird.  Figuring it was just my hunger, I ate and went back to bed.  When I woke up that morning, I felt like shiznit.  I had a terrible stomach pain like no other.  All day I just sat around and my friend and I just played games; helped get my mind off it, and it didnt take too long to go away.  The next day, it started to fade away more.  So on the way home, I felt pretty good, but still not 100%.  Right before I got home, the pain came back, except A LOT worse.  I was doubled over in pain by the time I got home.  My parents were really concerned, and after about 30 minutes or so with no end in sight (which felt like hours to me), my dad took me to the hospital.  I literally felt like I was going to die; it was absolutely terrible.  About 2 or 3 minutes before we got there, the pain was GONE.  I felt perfectly normal.  They still checked me out and I had to drink this big bottle of REALLY NASTY white pasty stuff, which was about as bad as the pain hahaha.  But once the pain went away, I have never experienced again.  It was the weirdest thing ever, and the most painful experience I have ever had.

OUCHIE.

Sorry to hear about that Carm. Hope you and your junk feel better soon.

Have you been given the option of the sonic bath to break up the kidney stones? I hear that works pretty well.

That happened to Cartman once.
"I got some of it from a man named Ralph in an alley. He told me to close my eyes and suck it out of a hose."

i hope you get better soon... but i was wondering, someone might have asked this before.. it sounds like you just gotta suck it up and take the pain while it passes?  i thought i heard of something thats like a xray type deal or something that breaks it up into smaller pieces, or they have something that disolves it (not completely)  any truth behind that?
